OLTL: Discussion for the week August 4th-8th

While i enjoyed the episode, I have to admit it felt like more and more of the campiness was seeping into the whole show. Now Brody is thwarting Rex's plans to get back to the future?? Past Moe knows everything about time travel? (tho I kinda like Delphina being involved I admit). Since when do Nuns hang out asking for charity in airports? NO ONE realizing Tess is acting weird? And peopel don't quit eseem to know how to play things-_Tess is a cartoon, Rex has resorted to doing even more cartoony doubel takes to EVERY SINGLE THING, etc...

Worst.Reunion.Ever.

But that's expected.

Is there no emotional connection between these characters? Everything rings so hollow. Like I've said before, the actors are slacking. Instead of embodying their scripts - they're just acting out the performances. Yet, there is nothing remotely compelling about it. Poor RC.

I disagree. Blair loves Dorian. And she usually shows it, by not turning on her with the same venom as Kelly, Cassie, and Adriana. So Dorian has Langston and Blair.

I have not been posting here, because I am going spoiler-free and too many things got ruined. However, in the past few weeks, this show has suddenly become so out-of-control campy and silly. I have been enjoying it, mind you, but wow: all that time travel and Mendorra stuff, and Carlo Hesser yelling "Damn you" like a cartoon villain, and no one having a clue that Tess is back. I still think it is first-rate, and I definitely do not agree with the person who said the actors are slacking, but I do think that the show became totally campy within a matter of weeks, and I am still wondering if it's all just a sort of tribute to the 40th anniversary and a sort of nod to the past (specifically the 80s, when big-budget adventure stories in foreign countries were the norm).

I loved Dorian today, when she said "Going back to slinging hash?" Man, that cracked me up.

I guess I am watching a different show than everyone else because I loved OLTL today! I know many are not digging what is happening to their favorite characters but as a new viewer I am enjoying the soapiness of it all.

I do not think Blair was being slutty. I got a kick out of her trying out the "ugly ass" night gown for Keys just to get info on who Todd has stashed.

I do not think Natalie, Viki, or anyone are being dumbed down more then others on other soaps. Plus it is probably all to set up Tess's revenge.

I do not think the 1968 storyline is boring or stupid. IMO it is very unique and as a new viewer I am learning OLTL's history.

There were some funny moments in today's episode

1)David's comment about Todd when giving the dog to the nuns. "If it was good enough for Todd's Baby, it is good enough for mine"

2)Tina switching the jewels but leading Cain to believe he had the real jewels and jump off the plan with them.

3)Everyone ganging up on Dorian

4)Dorian giving Tess the idea for putting Nattie in the "SECRET" room downstairs.

5)Blair modeling the gown for Keys just as Todd walks in!

Ah I wondered where you were. The OLTL posters on here are pretty good at hiding any spoilers posted in this forum :( Miss reading your thoughts.

Anyway I can't agree more--I'm still enjoying it but a part of me is pretty worried--it became totally camp SOOO quickly. Yes Ron apparantly has a hardon for the very end of Ruach's era when Michael Schnessel was writing--we leanred that fromt he 40th anniversary. that's fine but I dunno how he can fit it back in with the more 70s/Malone style "real/issues/etc" OLTL he so carefully seemed to be cultivating...

"I do not think the 1968 storyline is boring or stupid. IMO it is very unique and as a new viewer I am learning OLTL's history."

MUCH of this history is fairly recent stuff though--it's not liek we're referencing classic 70s stories and characters...

I don't think there's all that much more campiness leaking in now than there was pre-strike when we had Marcie and the drag queens, the Alice sitcom ripoff, Allison's secret and Addie's recovery. I agree a few of the actors are playing it a tad too broadly, but that's nothing new.

Tess feeding Todd was funny: a small detail that worked for me

Tika Sumpter was fantastic today: give this girl a storyline already! In fact, the whole buildup to her breakup with Vincent should have been developed... imagine how much more powerful the scenes at Rodi's would have been

Tess calling Dorian a bitch made me laugh

Thumbs down on the airport reunion. After all these years, Viki and the "original" Tina deserve more than a passing meet-up in an airport waiting area. What a letdown. And if Tina's purpose in sticking around Llanview is going to be to get those jewels back, it seems to me her entire return storyline will have been one huge disappointment.

    • 6-3   I almost let my system just delete the episode just like with B&B. I am now questioning if I should have. lol.   I just can't believe that Cole sat there and started to get sick and then only Victoria off and ran off and everyone basically went back to what they were doing at Nikki's birthday party. Cole was too much of a vet character for that. And now story back off-screen.   I did chuckle at how much Victor pay Kyle dust. And now Kyle with this deal and a promise to leave town if he hurts Claire. smh. As if Victor isn't going to make that happen.   It was lovely to see Ashley. And actually (misdressed and all) Abby.    And I liked Claire's dress.
    • Oh. That. I pretend that never happened.

I did think of another possibility. Did India ever sleep with Alan? They kind of toyed with pairing them up, but I'm not sure they ever became lovers.
    • While I do love the chaotic energy that is Kat vs Lesile, it is a bit extra. Sheltered, virginal Kat who plays it safe from her man to her wardrobe understands that Leslie is dangerous, but she's out here showing up everywhere and anywhere that Lesile is to be found and actively going to places where she is alone? I mean Kat doesn't even act a little afraid or intimidated by Leslie. Meanwhile, big Ole Derek out here begging for his and Ashley's life to Jacob.  As for Dani, I didn't see it that way. Dani and Bill were together for 30 years and shared a family. I believe there was real love there at one point. Bill is still an ass and Dani is still crazy, but realizing she may lose him and her daughter's may lose their dad definitely struck a chord.
    • Funny I randomly saw Kami’s lengthy post about the 44th anniversary of the Walton’s finale last week pop up in my news feed on Facebook. A few inaccuracies to her post but overall it was pretty insightful and interesting to read.
    • Well, depending on rewrites...Jennifer Richards potentially slept with Brandon and Alan. It does feel like we're forgetting someone, but then again, maybe I'm confusing that with brothers, which would include a lot more.
    • Maybe it’s me, and the fact that RC isn’t at the helm, but since Cwikly and Ford have taken over I’ve noticed the show doing a lot of things differently directing wise, and since the storyline of John’s demise began, the show has been using different scores, and dare I say better ones than this time last year. It’s interesting and I wonder if the any of it is Noel Maxam’s influence before being promoted.
    • I think Nicole is about to figure out what's going on between Andre and Dani.
    • @Efulton thank you. I don't know how I missed it or didn't recall it.  I'll blame amnesia . Anyway @Errol Could the newer thread be merged to the existing? Thanks in advance.
    • I just finished watching and I have to admit, not once did I find myself wondering who wasn't there. Quick question for anyone who followed this better than I did: was it only Andrew who rescued Cat and John from Clyde, or was Shane involved too? The reactions during their scenes today felt a little off to me. I know it was meant to be vague, but I didn't find it strange that they already knew each other.
    • Yeah, financially, Luna is in better shape than Deacon and Sheila.   -- Scott Clifton must have decided to chew the scenery in every scene of this "Liam is Dying" storyline. Yikes.
