OLTL: Discussion for the week July 14-18

It makes sense to me that she wouldn't. Tess is the part of Jess that needs to be angry for what happened to her. I'm sorry, but what person wouldn't be angry with a mother who put them in a situation were they were raped? Jess knows that Vikki didn't mean for it to happen and that it was because of her own sickness. But Tess is the part of Jess that can never forgive that. I think that makes much more sense than Jessica being able to forgive completely.

If people want to say that the original rewrite of Jess's happy childhood sucks then I can understand that, but since it was rewritten, Jess compartmentalizing her anger towards Vikki seems logical to me. I agree that these scenes are being written and acted without the proper gravitas.

I thought today was a great epi. Love how RC takes his secrets and layers them with different people. I wonder if Charlie will tell Rex now that he knows Shane is his son or will he respect the confidence of AA and keep it to himself. Also, with the Mandora plot wrapping up, I can't wait for everyone to come home to Llanview. That Tina/Viki scene is going to rock, especially with the fall out of the s/l and Carlo added to the mix. I hope RC finds a way to keep Thom Christpher around. He adds something to the show that's been lacking since Phil Careys exit.

I loved today's show; however the Mendorra storyline is not working AT ALL! Its laughable. That being said, Dorian and Viki were classic. Dorian telling Viki that she slept with Charlie despite it not being true is so twisted. I love it! I also thought the AA scenes were done well and thought the actor who plays Brody did a respectable job. I do not, however, believe that nobody would challenge Charlie on his suspicions about his recent "binge"

Nelson Branco is a bipolar little princess who, even when he was praising the show, I didn't pay any attention to. If they tell him his invitation got lost in the mail he'll change his tune. He wears his neuroses and personal insecurities on his sleeve so much in his supposedly-professional work that it's impossible for anyone to take him remotely seriously, or properly account for some of the many valid things he's said about daytime recently, because it's all mired in his personal petty bitchery, and his private Internet and magazine feuds. That Connie P./Marlena Delacroix swipe was particularly shitty. What was the point of that?

It's almost as if Nelson thinks what he says will sway the fans. He figures all of OLTL's acclaim has been because HE said some good things about it, and now he wants everyone to hate it.

Well, that being said... THIS SHOW IS AMAZING. I think the show's heightened reality is really good. I don't mind Madame Delphina and I really can't wait for the time travel story, because they are sharply written and don't take themselves too seriously. And it's not like that's all there is to watch on the story. The Starr/Cole/Todd/Blair/Marty/John/Michael/Marcie story is BRILLIANT, and the Viki/Charlie story is really well written too. I can't wait to see what Ron does next.

ITA -- RC is proving to be very, very good at weaving lots of characters into peripheral storylines; Charlie came to Llanview looking for Jared, and in the hands of most writers his story might have extended to Viki (and maybe Gigi, who he already knew from Texas) and gone no further. With Ron, Charlie got involved with Dorian, Roxy, and Rex, and his relationships with all of those other characters have paid off beautifully story wise.

AMEN! Please let all this Mendora nonsense end as quickly as possible. I have to wonder what Andrea Evans thinks of the way they have handled her return-- she's been stuck in an awful storyline with a bunch of actors she never even met before (except maybe Thom? Was he on the show before AE left?)

    • I could see where Kyle was intriguing for a hot minute, given that he was a millionaire with a secret grudge against the Lewises. But the entire premise for his grudge is stupid, and Reva's insta attraction to him doesn't fly.  I do think Reva needed to be separated from the Lewises, but she always comes off as a little lost without them, imo. I'm surprised they tied Kyle to them so rapidly. They could've drawn that story out for the entire two years Larkin was there.
    • If all true and this is the right leading lady, it may make sense why Kim didn't mention her by name, since Courtney passed away in Dec 2010, just under a year before the book came out in 2011. That would be the respectful thing to do, and it's not like Kim was shy about name dropping others in the book. All speculation though haha.
    • MSW streams on Peacock (for members), Tubi (for free), is on DVD, and is rerun on cable.... and I know a lot of young millennials/older Gen Z's that have recently been exposed to Murder She Wrote... and they love it. It's timeless.
    • Another example of the dysfunctional enmeshment that the Duprees labor under.   Dani freaking out about her father coming to visit as she's in bed with her boy toy totally screamed teenager instead of a grown ass woman that has two adult children.  The whole family needs to be in therapy including Nicole (who probably became a therapist because of the dysfunction within the family). @ranger1rgConsidering the fact that Chelsea has been controlled by a domineering Dani... I would be more surprised if Chelsea wasn't being extra and/or pushy.  She's spent more time being a model, having every move controlled by Dani, and being on social media as opposed to developing interpersonal relationships with her peers.
    • I agree. Every time she's on, it reads as "We're writing her in to fulfill her guarantee."
    • -- Hayley acted jealous when she walked in on Bill and Ashley. Really? I'm sorry, but they're writing Hayley as ridiculous. -- I'm not crazy about the way they're writing Bill's stroke and recovery/rehab. Doesn't feel like he went through much at all. -- So Shanice gets a promotion to physical therapist. Kind of laughable, but I'll take it to get more Shanice -- as long as her original personality remains intact. This is clearly a change from the original bible because the actress has been so good and popular. -- Chelsea is flat-out embarrassing in her thirst for Madison. In addition, I see no way Dr. Montgomery would be good with going live on Chelsea's IG. -- Why is Dani acting like she never ate at Orphey Gene's before? Are they serious with this? -- Good scenes with Anita, Tracy, and Sharon, and I appreciated Tracy's dialogue referring to "us 4 little colored girls." Nice nod to history. Then they wrecked it with another reference to "Articulettes Strong," which makes me cringe. -- Ever notice the staircase in the Dupree mansion's foyer? I can't get over how narrow those steps look.

    • I think Larkin was a very dashing and charismatic figure, but they started way too hot, made the character too unpleasant, and then pulled too far back with the tedious triangle. They also needed to get Reva away from the Lewises at that point rather than tying Kyle to them. They did this somewhat with the suicide attempt and working with Fletcher but not enough. I wonder what Pam Long's plans would have been for Cain. Jerry Lanning was always a mix of sinister and very cold to me, but she must have had some idea for him as she had also used him on Texas.
    • Chelsea is a stalker like her mother. She is annoying me big time.
    • As you point out,  Courtney seems to be the only logical person if the rumor was told to Zimmer and it's not just something she wrote to spice up the book. It could also be that Zimmer knew about the JC/JS relationship and just assumed that was the reason for her firing. It just reeks of Paul Rauch badmouthing Courtney though. I don't know why he and Lemay had it out for her. @DeeVee
    • Rebecca Budig sticks out like a sore thumb as Taylor. She has not added anything to the show or role of Taylor. A horrible recast.
