It's a good reminder of how charismatic and dominant he was in his run on the show - his last weeks were incredibly well done.

whats up with that Sonia character? The actress Natalie Cassady is on Big Brother and talked about a storyline she won an award for that had her character give birth without even realizing she was pregnant. Did the audience know?

People who read spoilers would have known. I'm not sure if viewers at home would have known, although the character did gain some weight and became more tired, etc.

Sonia was about 16 or 17, and her family had split apart, she was upset because her boyfriend had left, etc. She and Martin Fowler had sex (her first time I think). They wanted nothing to do with each other after that and she eventually began dating Jamie Mitchell, the show's young heartthrob in those years. She suddenly went into labor and Mo Slater, the matriarch of the Slater family who had just moved into Walford, delivered her baby.

This led to a long story where she gave the baby up for adoption and years later decided to take her daughter back.

1/26/88 Digest. This is neat - never knew SOD wrote about Eastenders. And they have most of my favorite characters (just take out Kelvin and put in Sue or Colin).

Thanks Carl. That's really interesting. It's great to have such an old article dug up to see how parts of the show were being received at that point. I just wish Neighbours had articles of that size written about it these days
