God, today's episode was such great final episode for Peggy Mitchell. I'm glad we got a more emotional and character driven episode after yesterday's fire.

So much emotion in this episode, so glad she didn't die and there were no big deaths. I think Peggy dying or other people dying would have taken away from the emotional impact of Peggy's last episode. I know some people wanted her to die in the fire or for her to have a more sensationalistic exit, but sorry, this was the best way to go about things.

Of course they also showed Peggy's vile side with her wanting Stacey to turn herself in for arson, so Phil wouldn't get blamed. But she recanted all that by the end with her look to Stacey.

The episode was just poignant and fitting. Everything she owns and cherishes went down with the Vic, and she's finally come to the conclusion that the Vic isn't the be all and end all of her life.

The scenes where Peggy was in the burnt down Vic and heard all the flashbacks of both happy and bad memouries were just fantastic. It reminded me a bit of Elsie Tanner's last episode of Corrie, where she was walking down the street and hearing stuff from years past.

I really enjoyed Peggy's goodbyes to Sam, Billy, Ronnie, Roxy, and Phil. All of them were just so fitting. I'm really enjoying Sam this time around, you could feel that she doesn't have a clue what to do with her life with Peggy gone. The goodbye to Ronnie was touching too, with the pregnancy reveal, and Peggy telling her "You're in charge now." I can see why, out of all of them, Ronnie is the most level-headed Mitchell.

Sad we didn't see her saying goodbye to Pat, but their final scenes with the joking remarks were a nice touch. Pat is probably going to be sad when she hears Peggy left.

I never cry for anything, but in that last minute or so where Peggy walked out of the house and onto the street to leave and Peggy's Theme kicked in, it did give me a lump in my throat and made me a little misty-eyed. That was such a beautiful last scene, and it had Peggy stop for a second to look at the burnt down Vic and the rest of the square, that was a nice touch.

I'm going to miss Barbara Windsor and Peggy Mitchell. She's been a big part of the show for most of the eras I've watched religiously. She will leave a void on the show, but I'm excited to see where they go from here.

That was a classy, poignant, and respectful exit. Nothing more was needed.

I agree, Alvin, that it was the best decision to not kill off anyone, even if I prayed Heather would bite it! ^_^ This episode showcased an "end of an era" feel to it. A whole new chapter of EastEnders starts Monday, the Kirkwood era.

I wonder where they are going to take Phil now. Will this be enough to pull him out from his addiction or does he still have quite a dark path to go down, a worse rock bottom?

Preview scene for Monday's episode. SO GLAD they're not forgetting to showcase Pat's reaction to Peggy leaving.

Thanks for posting those. I can see why Barbara HATED the clothes Peggy wore early on.

I thought the episode was very powerful and fitting for Peggy's character. I think that soap viewers have been so trained to wait for the next big death that it's a jolt when someone lives. There's a lot of talk about what a waste it was that Peggy didn't die and no one died in the fire and what was all that for. But the lack of death meant a focus on the emotions and the pain Phil and Peggy caused each other.

It's kind of funny hearing the comments about not being realistic -- we all know how Eastenders is known for its realism.

Loved the speech she gave about her mother. The scene with Sam was very poignant, giving Sam her mother's jewelery. Daniella has been so much better this time and that scene struck a chord with me.

After the horrible and shameful treatment of Pauline and Wendy Richard I'm glad they gave Peggy such a moving and upbeat exit, and that shot of her looking back at the Vic, in tears, and yet smiling, as she walked away to her new life -- it was everything the character deserved. It summed up everything about her.

I love the walk away/last look back type of exits. I'm really thrilled they gave one to Peggy. I hope that all the criticism they're getting for not having a slaughterfest won't deter them from being this brave again.

I didn't cry but I did come very close. And with the self-parody Peggy had become at some points I wasn't sure if that would happen. These last few months have been a very strong goodbye to her.

    • But why is everybody telling the attempted murderer that they have evidence of her attempting to murder someone lol is Leslie gonna target Andre or Shanice now?  I did kinda feel bad for Hayley though. It makes me think something may happen as a result of her realizing that Dani is always going to be a part of her and Bill’s lives

    • She and Alec Baldwin were on The Doctors together. I hope you post your thoughts on the book as you have been on the show. I've thought about giving Zimmer's book a read for a while, but I've never gotten around to it.

    • Vivian and Sami had some great scenes in the late 90s where Sami would talk to Vivian about her problems, and Vivian would dole out sage advice. I have no doubt that in the fictional universe, Sami called Vivian to tell her about John (you'll recall Vivian called him Forrest while he called her Auntie Viv).
    • 1996/97 CBS moves Touched by Angel from Saturday 9 pm to Sunday 8 pm, where it pretty much inherited the Murder, She Wrote audience. `TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL' HAS PUT CBS EXECUTIVES IN RATINGS HEAVEN Touched by an Angel becoming a Top 10 show was a rare bright spot in that 1994-2000 CBS primetime mess era.

      Come on Articulettes. Bring it.
    • I didn’t even think about that!
    • Agree. We already have that with Dani and Nicole and they are setting up Kat to be hurt that way too. We dont need a 4th
    • Hahaha, dead. I still remember when Sharon threw Nikki's past in her face "you started on a pole and ended in a bottle". We saw Nikki go from climbing the pole to the OG ho turned housewife then snooty lady of the manor and now messy matriarch/grande dame.
