Y&R: Looking forward to the summer

Um no, that's exactly what's killing this show. Gloria needs to pay and in a big way. It's over two years after the Skin Cream fiasco and she still hasn't been exposed. That's the same fiasco that's keeping legacy character Jack Abbott away from Jabot, where he should be. There's so many storyline possibilities if Gloria is exposed and sent to prison (this is a soap, she won't be there for that long). However, they refuse to go in that direction.

I will not be satisfied until Gloria is knocked down once and for all and put through the same damage she's been responsible for giving to other, more essential characters.

Amen.

I love this show in spite of its current shortcomings but... some of the so-called production values are highly overrated, and always have been.

I had to laugh when the Large And Ungainly One's mother talked about what it was like to be in a BILLIONAIRE'S mansion. My mother's house makes it look like a summer cottage cluttered with 80's nosalgia pieces. What kind of billionaire wuld have a home that doesn't have some kind of entrance hall?

Abbott House too, lots of expensove clutter, not much of a house. Same with Catherine's house. The house I grew up in was bigger.

Just thought I'd mention this, Jeanne Cooper mentioned that the writers are furiously working on a long-term bible of stories to take Y&R well into the next year. She specifically mentioned it in regards to an upcoming Kay/Jill storyline.

Long-term planning on Y&R? That hasn't happened in years, kind of makes me a bit hopeful...

WHERE? In SOW? Can you say what the source for this "long-term planning" thing is?

Because, like you, I feel if THAT is happening, we are on the road to recovery.

That said, as we know, Y&R will never rise much above its current 3.5 trough. The history of daytime shows these soaps NEVER bounce back (excepting, temporarily, GH in the early 1980s). But if the show is re-energized, it can stay at this 3.5 plateau for a while until the next descent to 3.0.

^Someone posted it on another board, it's apparently an interview La Cooper gave to a local Atlanta paper.

Thanks! I'll find it now :-).

Yes, this is a so-called Jack Peyton Axiom, named after a very serious soaps scholar Jack Peyton, a member of SON. :D

I suggest they (Maria & Hogan) read Bleak House once more. If they ever did, that is.

Okay, I shall label it as such hitherto.

Khan, I love your story, but I don't want any of it to happen.

I like Adam. I think he's the best thing in years. The only thing better is Cane. Both actors are terrific, and I don't want to seem them squandered this way.

I love Sabrina. I think the actress is terrific. If they hadn't ignored Victor's vasectomy, I'd be totally on board with her.

I certainly, certainly, certainly don't want my beautiful Gloria to die. Her role today as comic relief/receptionist was perfect.

I TPTB read anything, I want them to totally ignore Khan's post :-).

I did have one idea today: If the fans hate Gloria so much, and want her "rested" from Y&R, why not send her to B&B to take over Spectra. They are wasting Leslie Anne Down over there, and Chapman would be perfect to restore Spectra to its' campy greatness.

I could see that, but I still want Gloria on Y&R. She doesn't need to be on quite as much as she is now, but I would be very disappointed if she's written out completely.
