urges Art to investigate Miss Hathaway's disappearance. Art is struck by all the coincidences Ned rattles off: Alan's sudden decision to quit the garage, the scratches on his face, the phony home address, etcetera. On the other hand, they have no real evidence against Howard, Detective Hindman insists. Undaunted, Ned launches an exhaustive hunt that finally pays off. A little girl named Valerie recognizes the picture of Alan that Ned's been passing around. She saw that man while she was going door to door for her Girl Scout group, Valerie reveals. With Art's help, Ned works desperately to help the child remember which house it was. April's desperate, too. Alan's insisting they get married - today. Will Ned find her in time?

"experience" to insinuate herself back into the Forbes' home. At Stacey's suggestion, Lily leaves the hospital and moves back in with her and Jack. Stacey doesn't suspect Lily's motives, but she does tell the hospital psychiatrist about her "friend's" past as an incest victim. Dr. Sacks is concerned, especially after overhearing Lily play up to Jack. Clearly, Lily's problems with men haven't been resolved, Dr. Sacks worries.

Memory Lane

Jim's so upset about Shana's decision to return to A.E. that he's getting memory flashes. He's concerned, but decides not to tell Shana. If Jim does recall the seven years that have been blank - including his days as a priest - how will that affect his marriage?

Gwyneth explains. Rick couldn't care less what's behind it, he wants his job back. Or else, Stewart threatens. Or else, what? Gwyneth gulps. How would the Aldens like to meet her bastard son? Rick asks. Gwyneth begs for more time.

Gwyneth vows to make it up to Rick by landing a rich husband. Rick's skeptical, especially after he hears who she has in mind. Harry Sowolsky makes a good living at the casino, he'll take care of both of them, Gwyneth promises. But first, she has to convince Harry she didn't set him up by seducing him right under Ann's nose, Gwyneth muses...

Like Mother, Like Son

After assuring Cec he's all but cinched her contract as the new Amourelle model, Rick takes a starry-eyed Miss Thompson to bed.

There is/was an Ilene Kristen fan site that recapped a good portion of her run on "Loving" with screen caps. Yes, Elizabeth Savage was playing the role at the time of Gwyn Alden. I think Christine Tudor Newman returned in the spring around the time Norma left. I've never seen written how Norma was written out, but I think she just faded into the background. I don't think Kristen was a contract player.

It was dumb to name two character Rick in this period, but, similarly, Cec's / Ava's Tony of 1987 isn't the Tony of 1983-1985. The Tony in the 1987 synopses worked at the casino, was a former doctor, and had lost a fiancee to the mob. Yes, this makes things very confusing.

Marland was gone in late spring 1985. I don't think Ann's alcoholism had started at that point. I know Nixon wanted to revisit the alcoholism story with Marty.

Don't get me started on the Dolly storyline. I've been complaining about it for a long time.

Kelly's exit was mentioned in the synopses you posted. I think she left in May 1987. I'm not sure when Lorna and Zach left, but I don't think it was much earlier. Kelly was a part of the younger crowd with Rob, April, Ned, Kristen, and Dave. I guess they decided to cut their losses.

I was shocked it Tug and Sherrie so long to get the baby. No, Johnny is not J.J. Stacey gives birth to J.J. in 1986, I think.

No, Carl, the problem isn't the order. It's just the show sounds so dull during this period.

Wow, I had no idea it wasn't the same Tony. That is crazy.

I knew Kelly left in May 1987 - I just wondered why she didn't go with her family immediately, if that meant they had some plans for her they didn't follow up on.

I wonder if the show always planned to only have Marty posing as April's mother or if that was a story change. The Marty/Jim stuff sounds like it could have been interesting, but the show wrote out everyone but Ned en masse in fall 1987, it looks like (or perhaps Ned went too? He didn't in the last recap I posted). I notice that the bad guys blackmailing April threatened to disfigure Marty, which is the same threat used against Lorna a few years earlier.

Did you know Sherrie came back for Ava's and Clay's wedding? I didn't. I wonder why they didn't ever bring her back again - they could have used her instead of Carly, or used her as well as Carly.

Thanks for telling me about Norma. I think I went to the Ilene fansite a long time ago but haven't in the last few years. I will have to look for that.

I'm not sure of the exact date of the Digest on this - comparing to the July 15, 1986 Digest recap I posted on the last page, I think this must be about a month later?

I think I mislabeled one or more of the recaps. What I labeled August 27 may be August 13.

Anyway, this is the next recap, which I guess would be August 27.

Who is the best man giving the toast for Stacey and Jack?

Does Roya Megnot remind anyone else of Barbara Luna? I love that ugly little scene she had with Gwyn. This is what I watch soaps for. Roya is stunning, even with the Muppet she's wearing.

The stuff with Steve and Trisha seems a little pedestrian, although he has a very nice a$$.

It's weird to see Linden Ashby and Susan Walters play brother and sister.

Linden has more spark here than I've ever seen him show in any role.

It's strange that two of my favorite soap actresses (Alice Haining and Colleen Dion) played Cecilia. Another actress played her too, right? Who was that again?

Alice seems miscast as Cec. It's strange seeing her in leathers.

Victor Bevine's Doug Donovan gave the speech. He was involved with Shana Sloane at the time, which is why he is staring at Jim and Shana when they are reminiscing.

I believe Rebecca Staab was the other actress who played Cece, but that's off the top of my head.
