DAYS: Who do you want as the new HW?

Fanbases have killed Days. No, not just them but that's a big part of it. Yes - devoted fans and longtime couples should be respected and treated well. But John and Marlena are purely static characters and the DHs apparently see no real reason to try and change anything. Even this current thing just leads back to Marlena. And fans throw fits if the longtime characters or couples dare to break any new ground.

John should've stayed dead, freeing up Marlena to do something, anything new. Stefano's new Pawn should've turned out to be a recast Brady.

Amen!

I was worried and elated when they killed off John. Worried about the backlash, but elated at the potential of the old Marlena returning and at the quality of the show at that point.

John's death and funeral made amazing television. It truely brought back the heart of this show. Sentimental, character driven drama came back to Days , and the complex layers that once sucked viewers in re-emerged after a decade's abscence (or more). Bringing him back so soon was like a slap in the face or a punch in the gut. It was like all at once I remembered that this is Days after 1993, not before that point. We had plenty of characters return from the dead before 93, but the quick and ridculous way he came back reminded me that ratings stunts trumped good storytelling.

John should have stayed dead long enough for Marlena to get over it, and be Marlena the heroine again. The possibilities for Stefano and Marlena were limitless. Now Johns back, but he's Jawn, Stefano's gone, and Marlena's obsession with a man who impersonated her husband controls her every action. I'm a John and Marlena fan, as I am a fan of this show, but God, why does every storyline the DHs are in HAVE to involve them pinning for each other.

Thats not the real Marlena, It makes John seem soft and silly. It makes general fans with no agenda frustrated and want them apart.

I've thought about this....but I can't really say. Any person that would write would obviously have to work with KFC and that's not something most people want. But since he would be out of the equation......

Paula Cwickly for sure.....if she had a co-head, it would be Tom Casiello (I think most would consider him "new" blood right)?

I would mind Karen Harris and Michele Val Jean being a part of their team (if they understood DAYS and the characters). I think that anyone who works for the show should at least understand the show and the characters they're writing for.

And since JER is still on the payroll, might as well get some work out of him. Let him consult on some things.

In all fairness to Dena, this stint is much better thus far compared to her 2003 stint. But then again thats like saying hell is much more pleasant ever since Satan lowered the temperature to 150000 degrees....

I digress. I liked B&C and SSM (the latter more so when Langan didnt force her to write his crapola). But I doubt any of them are coming back. Although these 3 left of their own will as opposed to being fired like Hogan, JER (second stint), Higley in 2003, Langan etc., are they on good terms with Corday? What are the chances of a return? If Corday fires Higley, I wouldn't be suprised if we got someone new to DOOL (probably not to Daytime though).

For my DOOL writing dream team (reality suspended), I would have: SLG, Judith Donato, Mike Cohen, Annette Schoetle and Peter Brash on scripts, and a joint headwriting team of JER, Sheri Anderson, Paula Cwikly and Beth Milstein (yes I think JER needs at least 3 people to keep him grounded, the dialogue real and non-pod-person-esque, and allow the pace to afford more than 7 days in a calendar year to be screened).

I agree with you both. I wish John had stayed dead. I hoped this "new John" was a clone. That would have kept Drake on the show but given Marlena a new direction. As for new writers, Cwikly & Casiello are my choices. I would like to have SLG back too.

Jack Smith is an interesting choice. I say this only because he worked closely at Y&R with Ed Scott. It might be interesting to pair the two again (though I'm aware, as we all are, that KC calls the shots on DAYS). Smith is being wasted writing a script a week at B&B.
