Is this from the episode when Fallon divorces Jeff in Season 8?  I remember she wore something very colorful for the trip.

I recall Alexis went to the Virgin Islands to divorce Dex for some unknown reason.  And I think Fallon when to Mexico.  It was never clear why they needed to leave town to get a divorce.  It wasn't The Women in the 1950s where they had to go to Reno.  I think women could file for divorce in Colorado.

Meanwhile, check out Krystal's workout ensemble

At about 3 minutes Esther Shapiro gives a statement about her new film, Living the Life, written with her sister-in-law. This was her last project.

City of San Antonio City Council Meeting - Living the Life (1999) (texasarchive.org)

Living the Life (2000) - IMDb

Looking at her credits also takes me to this - can't remember if it was ever talked about here or not, or if any of it is worth sitting through. (she had no involvement - just got a credit based on Dynasty) You can see looking through the episode guide that they just adapted the first two seasons of the original show, not the CW version.

Dinastija (TV Series 2021–2022) - IMDb

It's sort of interesting - it's from what I can gather a telenovela, so I assume the format must've made it play out somewhat differently. I remember a couple of videos being available on YouTube - from what I could gather some of it seemed directly ripped from OG Dynasty and some seemed more in line with CW Dynasty.  A bizarre experiment either way - considering their "top-rated" episodes seem to be between 3.0-4.0 stars on IMDB I'm not sure it's worth the effort of tracking down.

I skimmed through a few - you're right, nothing that special, although it's not awful. The most interesting part, maybe reflecting where it is made, is them redoing the '80s Steven story. If it had lasted longer, I wonder if he would have gone back to men too.

I break down Dynasty as

Season 1: Slow start that builds the foundation for the character relationships.

Season 2: Peak. Joan Collins arrives and Alexis is the breakout character that becomes a pop culture phenomenon. This season Dynasty becomes Dynasty as we know it and for me its the only season that works from a storytelling and acting standpoint.

Seasons 3-5: Height of popularity but weaknesses are showing. To me it seemed Aaron Spelling's entire goal was to be bigger and better than Dallas and storytelling logic and acting ability went out the window.

Season 6: Tanked in the aftermath of the Royal Wedding Shootout.

Season 7-9: Off the rails.

I thought I would like Dynasty as an adult since I loved the peak years of 90210 and Melrose as a teen but on the whole I didn't like Dynasty very much. Aaron Spelling shows you have to watch with the mindset that they are products of their time and you're not going to get high emotional stakes character driven storytelling.

I agree with this... pretty much... After season 3... the show became a joke... for me. Too much fights and absurd bitchy dialogue and too much conspirations. At one point there would be 5-10 episodes with the same one-liners from Alexis and Krystle. I would play an episode from season 6 by mistake and not realize I'm not playing the right seasons - it was all the same every season. No dimensions, lack of dept. But some moments were still fun.

P.S - I first watched Dynasty in my early teen years and back then I LOVED IT. ALL OF IT. But watching after 25 is... hard... and surprising the first 2 seasons were amazing for me. Especially season 1. I loved it.

The Carrington Mansion seems so much bigger in the pilot and in the first season.

To me, the unfortunate shifts from S1 to S3 are the personalities of Blake and Krystal.  I know the rumors that John Forsythe wanted to tone down Blake, but he makes an interesting tyrant in the first season.  And Krystal is not only more a force to be reckoned with against Alexis early on, her motives are also a bit more questionable.

Later on, Krystal explodes on Alexis once a season in their annual cat fights.  But, in season 2, you can tell why Alexis has reason to be suspicious of Krystal's motives.  And in the famous scene where Alexis is packing to live in Cecil's palazzo, Krystal is no pushover.  But, by the time you get to season 6, Alexis just seems like a cruel bi-atch for constantly poking at Krystal.

Again, (unpopular opinion), but that is one of the reasons that I enjoyed the CW reboot version of both characters.

Well, most of the pilot (bar John Forsythe's parts since they had to reshoot those because Peppard dropped out) were shot at Fioli. I also think they overall shot a bit more there perhaps in the first season.

I liked Season 1 too, but it seems they thought the Blaisdels were dead weight except Claudia and killed them off. If Lindsay had been better cast, she could have been a fascinating character.

If Heather Locklear had been cast as Lindsay (instead of them creating Sammi Jo)...Lindsay would have married gay Steven and had his child. It would create even more explosive conflict between the 2 main families and driven stories for years.

    • The timing is strange, though. How far in advance would they normally be on location? The Achille Lauro hijacking was on October 7, 1985. Nancy had arrived in Egypt in the storyline by October 18. But the character of Hawk, Chris' Native American friend from Arizona, had already appeared onscreen by September and brought a letter telling Chris to be in Egypt by October 25th.  Why did they already have the link to Arizona before the reason to cancel the shoot in Egypt?  The dust and the jar it came in were from Egypt though. Nancy bought it there and sent it to Mac as a gift before she came back to the states and followed Chris to Arizona.
    • Actually that is not what happened. Nor is the timing right for it to have been. We learned from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay  in 2006, which can be found on YT, that it was Fred Silverman's idea to do the 90 minute show. I don't know how much you know about him but he had these amazing successes as head of daytime at both ABC & at CBS. Then he came to NBC where basically everything he touched turned NOT TO GOLD but to shite. Some of the most expensive shows ever produced up to that time were huge flops. Although even he, like a broken clock, could be right on occasion. However, as we know, he was not right about the 90 minute show. As a matter of fact, afterward,  NBC programmers, who worked FOR him, were asked why they did it & they were quoted as saying it was because they couldn't think of anything else to try. It was a stupid idea from a man who had reached the point where he was throwing anything at the wall to see if it would stick.

    • I stopped watching Another World in 1990. Simply, lost interest in the show.  I had watched the show from 1973 to 1990. The 90 minute show started the decline of AW.  NBC panicked with expanding AW due to the GH hoopla. As mentioned above, 1982 was a trainwreck for AW.  The introduction of the Shea family, the movie storyline involving Jamie, and Steve Frame favoring Rachel over Alice. The writers went into that direction due to the forgettable performance of Linda Borgeson.

    • Ive seen that theory thrown out but the one thing against it is that Leslie and her family lived in Chicago. She only came back to DC last year after her husband died. Unless they say Alan made a trip to DC and died while away, she wouldnt know about that. However I do think the angle of her finding out that Martin was involved could work as that gives her leverage against Bill too for covering it up. She'd want to get revenge on him by threatening to have him disbarred
    • What a good write-up @Errol! Nice seeing the nod to Duplaix's lead.
    • The Egypt location shoot was cancelled because of the Achille Lauro cruise ship hijacking

    • And, to me it is a little bit hilarious that AW fans all over continue to refer to it as Egyptian Dust Recently elsewhere I've been running polls. When did you stop watching AW or What storyline caused you to stop watching AW. You may be interested to know that sticking it out till the bitter end is winning by a landslide. Next highest vote getter is - no surprise - Frankie's murder. So that covers like 60% & next 20%. Then the votes drop way down to 10% and well below but a wide array of reasons are given, including but not limited to  Justine Lumina Rachel having twins at her age, how ridiculous Mac's death the 90 minute show firing JC, George R & Dwyer Hmm, I know there are a few more, in the 1%-3% range but I cannot think of what they are. Sorry, my bad. Should have made notes but I didn't know I would be posting about it. LOL!!
