There is much I like about the show...but Nikki being tied to David Chow, the lack of tension at Restless Style...both mentioned upthread...these are BIG problems.

I find each episode entertaining, and it mostly makes sense to me. I didn't understand why the Fisher-Baldwins suddenly got tough-love with Gloria...

The show feels like Y&R again, but it doesn't yet feel like *great* Y&R. With all the LML writers coming back, I think it is safe to say we're still in transition, and I now feel we will be for all of 2008. Later this year, MAB will hit her stride.

Because I still think MAB's mentor is Brad Bell (and maybe Kay Alden and/or Jack Smith), and because I think the show that they're all at...B&B...is an UNHOLY mess...I'm less reassured than ever.

I'm suddenly reminded WHY Sony/CBS/Bell felt the need to impose LML in the first place....

I'm in the under 34 demo and Jill is my favorite character on Y&R. It pisses me off that she doesn't get used other than as filler for the boring 20 somethings. When they paired Victor and Jill up the first time it was great. In fact it was the only Victor relationship that I did like on this show, because she was his equal. Soaps are dying because they think that the young are only interested in their own age group, but that is not the case, we watch soaps for the multi-decade storytelling and character development.

Jill and Andy were an item when Deborah Adair played Jill. Jill left Andy for John Abbott.

Could Andy's best friend, who is about the same age, be Jill's new guy? I'm talking about Paul.

I realize the pairing seems VERY unlikely at first blush. But I think the two actors are within 5 years of each other.

There is an opposites attract thing...he's jeans, she's silk...but I think maybe they could bring out opposite sides of each other. He could help her connect with her working class roots and her earthier nature...he could get her in a pair of jeans. And she, maybe, could help him connect with his ambition (he doesn't even have an office anymore, and JT seems to have usurped all his security and detective business--certainly with Newman).

I'm grasping, a little, because Jill and Paul are the two most neglected legacy characters right now.

I love the idea of Jill/Paul or Victor/Jill, but I'm afraid it wouldn't be handled well. Which would be such a shame, because both of these pairings could be dynamite. Also, I wouldn't want them to be paired just because they're legacy characters--there has to be sufficient build up to it, a reason that it happens. And I think I would feel more comfortable if Alden or Smith handled this. Again, if done well, it would be dynamite, with either one.

Paul and Jill is a great idea and one that I'd never really thought of...I can see Doug and Jess having fantastic chemistry. And they'd likely have a sweetness to their relationship...I'd like that.

Victor and Jill would be fiery, fantastic and fabulous. They've done it (briefly) once before and it was effing dynamite. Braeden and Walton are equals in every sense of the word. Victor and Jill are heaven...plus it would open up wounds between Nikki and Jill which would then open wounds between Kay and Jill.

My suggestion to Jess Walton would be this: grow your hair out! It would make her even sexier than she is now, she looked fantastic with long hair in the past. Bring back that sexy mane!

OMG! You've just said what I have been thinking for months! Somehow, Jill and long hair seem to go together and Jill most certainly needs to have that mane back! It just gives her... something that seems to be so Jill! I'm really glad someone else thinks the same.

We need to paste this Jill  thread into an e-mail to TPTB. Everytime CBS do that fan panel re: Y&R, I always tick Jill as the character I want to see more of. Mind you, I pushed for Jill & Ji Min on one of those things last year and a lot of good it did me.

about it I think Jan is a fine supporting part for a solid daytime vet (probably someone from the P&G soaps), as opposed to someone from the production location who is clearly cheaper. Which seems to govern some casting. I get the rationale, but I would start going through the ATWT/GL, etc. rolodex myself.
    • I dont mind Jan. She's good in the minor capacity she is used.
    • tbqh I don't care about Jan, I don't care about Ashley and I think Jon Lindstrom as Joey is an acquired taste. Jon is a great actor but certain things are in his zone and then some are not. Some days I find Joey credible and compelling, but the stuff with him hanging around the Golden Corral, grumbling about Doug and bitching at Randy is not amazing. If he had material on par with what MVJ wrote for Ryan/Kevin on GH back in the day it'd be a different story. I do think he has real chemistry with Vanessa, which is in large part due to MVJ clearly molding that character (and hiring an appropriate actor) in the Lucy Coe vein when she reinvented Lucy in the '90s as well. But I am not here to spend 6+ months watching Jon glower a lot (which is what he's doing half the time to carry weak story) and make more vague dire pronouncements while Jen Jacob gets flustered and weepy over "Daddy" or whatever would come of that storyline. Putting them together sounds like a recipe for doom to me. But I may be in the minority on that.
    • I know this will never happen. But... Halle Berry as Dani Dupree(BTG). She would rock this role, it's in her wheelhouse.
    • When I see how bad the Ashley/Derek scenes are, I know there must be a larger purpose and Joey being her father is the thing that makes the most sense.  My take on it is that Ashley knows Joey is her father but doesn't know Joey. Maybe he was there when she was a child or just not around at all but I believe Jan when she says she didn't lie to her daughter about who her father was. Maybe she left him when she discovered his dangerous lifestyle.  I do think they could really jump start the character of Ashley if they hurry and do this. Jan is a great character and her scenes with Ashley have been helpful. This would further integrate Ashley into the canvas and give her something dramatic to do. With her working at the hospital along with Doug, it could lead to complications if she learns Doug is involved with her father. I just need is sooner rather than later because Derek is tanking her character. I need a distraction.

    • The stories are awful. I'm not enjoying any of them. All I'm left with is Sally in a plastic dress.
