To be fair, there's no established rubric for “greatest”.  One could argue “most popular” or “most romantic”.  But, to me, greatest assumes there is no ranking because everyone on the list is better than good. 😉🤔

The one exception has been Ted and Laken. Why they insist on giving these two dramatic material when they can't act is beyond me! Your father killed my mother; you ratted out my brother; etc. It's silly, and all just a recipe for bad acting. They should have kept it light with them.

The actor who played Ted was definitely a lightweight. But the actress playing Laken was worse - a black hole of charisma.

So, I ordered the special Soap Opera Digest 50 Greatest Couples special print issue, and it arrived recently.

How the rankings were chosen, I have absolutely no idea. But what surprised me was, in that issue, while both Cruz and Eden and Mason and Julia made the list...Cruz and Eden were #36, while Mason and Julia were #23!

Gotta admit, that surprised me here. (Even saying this as a mega Mason and Julia fan!)

With that said, it's a nice special issue, with nice write ups and photos and such. Not sure if it is in stores, but if anyone is interested, I got it through this store which was e-mailed through the SOD e-mail account:

Soap Opera Digest - 50 Greatest Couples Of All Time: Who's No. 1?, Exc – Magazine Shop US

The quirky romantic couple of Mason and Julia definitely deserved their spot...always loved them.

Regarding Cruz and Eden, well anything out of the top 10 is a gross anomaly (Not being biased here, maybe a little bit ((-:). The kinda impact their pairing had and still does judging by the euphoria around their reunion recently is really unmatched. There seems to be a recency bias and also a case of out of sight out of mind syndrome, especially with Marcy being out of the limelight for so long...its easy to discredit there pairing.

From the beginning, Santa Barbara always had a great musical score. From 1984 on, many of the couples and the main characters had their own little theme. My favorites are the ones they had for Santana in 1984 and for Peter; it captured aspects of the character; for Santana, her spunkiness, for Peter his sleaze. I also like the score they had for Peter in 1985 when he becomes the Carnation killer; very spooky!

Does anyone know when Pearl's first ep was? I'm watching 331 (Kirk storyline) I'm wondering if it's this but not sure.

Cruz is at the police station and Pearl looks a bit rough and kind of offers to sell him a tip about Eden- Pearl had seen something the night CC's life support went down

As an aside- it is beyond ridiculous that Cruz was investigating the incident. Talk about conflict of interest.

Robert Thaler made his first episode appearance as Pearl Bradford on October 31 1985 (episode 321).

Didn't the French SB site used to have the Bible up online?

I'd love to read it.  It was on this discussion thread that someone summarized much of the original bible from memory.  I was intrigued that there was supposed to be a past shared by C.C. and Augusta.  I wonder if the last minute recast of Lloyd Bochner altered their plans?

The show gave more attention to the wedding of Kelly and Joe then I thought they would, considering he gets killed off 3 weeks later. I thought they would do a small, quick, civil ceremony. Instead, the entire cast shows up to a church nicely dressed, and special guest, and CC's friend, Jeffrey Osborne comes and lip-synchs some tunes. I thought the Cruz and Eden dance to one of his tunes at the reception in the Capwell mansion looks like what you'd see today from couples on Dancing with the Stars who get immediately voted off 😂

Joe & Kelly should have been the true super couple of Santa Barbara but the Dobsons fücked that other (in a way they always did) by recasting the role of Joe.
