It felt like by the time the truth came out, it was about tying up the loose thread. Everyone’s reactions were so muted. I don’t know for sure but I assumed that it wasn’t the original plan for it to drag on and be ignored the way it did. Maybe there was too much going on with Cruz and Eden or the Julia/Mason/Tori love triangle got in the way of things. Had Mason/Tori been the couple and Mason was actively parenting Chip when the truth was revealed, I would guess it would put the 2 couples against each other and divided up the family.

I think she overreacted during that reveal. Perhaps it was because she picked up on Julia being in love with Mason but it was a lot. The baby contract was unconventional but it’s not like they were together when it happened and Mason didn’t know Julia was pregnant when he married Tori. Honestly the only weird part of the story was that Mason wanted to have the kid the traditional way versus artificial insemination.

This is going back to the earlier years but with Madeline Capwell’s murder, was her sister always intended to be the killer or did they change their minds as a way to write her off? I saw the David Laurent trial and the aftermath at the cabin and they made it pretty clear that he did it and was snowing Julia. None of these scenes make sense if he wasn’t the murderer.

Side note, I only recently saw the first few seasons because I didn’t start watching the show until 87. I can now see why Julia gave up on the traditional route and went with the baby contract. They gave her some whoppers for LOs pre-Mason.

No, making Courtney the murderer seemed very stupid. They pointed everything at David. I do not know what happened, but tacking on the Courtney did it seemed very contrived and nothing more than a stupid way to get rid of her. Honestly, she could have just said, I'm moving back to the East coast. That would have been fine.

Yes, Julia had awful taste in men. As charming as Jack Lee was, he WAS a cad.

Not sure, but there are several pictures from a Facebook group.

The whole story feels as if it was “inspired” by a film of the era called Jagged Edge. The set up is similar, guy is charged with the wife’s murder, there’s some questions about his innocence, his lawyer gets him acquitted, the real killer is found, they fall in love, then the husband turns out to be a dangerous. So, given the similarities it seems like the story was planned to fill the plot of the movie, which was a familiar writing strategy of that time in soaps

I’ve never heard of that movie but I looked it up and lol, yeah they ripped it off. The SL is way too similar. Socialite is murdered, husband is suspected, female lawyer reluctantly takes his case and falls for him despite not being sure of his innocence and after he’s acquitted  discovers evidence that indicates that he did it and he attacks her.

Thank you Marissa Gallant for your answer! I'll try to enter in the limited group.

My favourite storylines of SB were the wedding of Eden/Cruz, all the storylines of Eden/Zack/Cruz/Adriana, Kelly/Robert Barr/Quinn and also Elena.

The first episode I watched of this soap is the murder of Dylan by Kelly in self defence. a great story.

I hate how they ruin Eden/Cruz story. I didn't like the last 2 years. I watched them only because Kelly was here but I admit I'd liked Kelly would have a major role after Eden departures. Also I don't understand why Eden wasn't recasted. Probably Eileen Davidson could have been a better Eden than Kelly. Carrington Garland was a good Kelly. If producers keep Miss Garland and put Davidson as Eden could have been a better choice.

    • Haha, love to hear it, and thank you! Yeah, I just write down thoughts/notes as I'm watching in this viewing journal I'm keeping.  So, you get my raw, honest thoughts in the moment without me having to go back and remember or curate anything.

Watros is great, and I've liked her from the beginning, so I'm excited to see her evolve and shine even more as Annie continues to descend. I'll keep an eye out for that scene.  I have to say, Rick cracks me up, there are times when he makes jokes and you can tell the actor is having fun with it and cracking himself up. He's endearing. Let me suffer!    So funny how big Josh's hair is in the 80s. Sign of the times, I guess.   I can't wait to finally see the Sonni storyline and watch a younger Michelle Forbes shine. It's on my list, I will go back in time eventually and do this
    • This was late 1993, right before Roger is shot.
    • Haha I guess so, and in this recent case, Alan absolutely deserved it (many times over, honestly).
    • It's hard to remember, as Holly and Blake always seemed to be on the outs over something.
    • Ohhh yes, these were exciting!  What year was this?  Another added bonus, watching Tangie lurk around like a thief with that black beanie.

I'm happy to hear I'm not alone in my thoughts over Gilly's exit and Vivian's first and likely only contract storyline. It was just a shame. On one hand, I'm glad they decided to finally write for this family (as Gilly was sorely underused in 1995), but then on the other... that was what they decided? Sure, it was a bit soapy, but oh so gross. They could have come up with something better.
    • Women slapping guys is a little more common.  I grew up with CBS, so it doesn't seem strange to me. If you got a slap, you usually really deserved it.
    • That could be it too. I just remember a slap at some point. That would have been around when she was made at Holly for "ruining" her one-sided relationship with Alan Michael. I don't know if you will be getting to 2000 (if you do - buckle up!) but there's a character who was intended to be Stacy.
    • Agree with all of this. They use stuff like the redecoration and the party as major events and nothing comes of it. Kyle/Claire is of no interest to me because Kyle has already been deeply in love with Lola and summer so his devotion to Claire is more of the same. And Claire is a character that came from a nonsense rewrite and now is presented as Little Miss Innocent, her dark past swept away. That charm bracelet of Nikki's must weigh a ton. The list of grandchildren seemed endless. The thing is, most of them are offscreen and ignored. Victoria seems like a neglectful parent. Was Dylan mentioned? Another dumb rewrite character. Not only is the show hampered by so many vet charcters, TPTB don't seem interested in venturing into new areas with them. Cole was brought by but there hasn't been any dramatic story that could impact on Victoria? What had he been doing all those years? So many characters w/o stories talking about businesses we never see.
    • I thought it was Sherry Stringfield, but maybe it was before Blake slept with Ross.
    • Thank you for the great background and summary - very helpful!  Yes, very odd they never brought her back, but at least J mentioned her, so not truly forgotten. Ah interesting, I guess I never realized that CBS was a bit more conservative/old-fashioned in a way, at least pre-2000 or so. It's funny, I wrote that about slapping, and then a few episodes later, Vivian storms into the Spaulding mansion and slaps Alan. It's like I spoke it into existence.
