I don't know about you guys, but when I saw it for the first time yesterday I was kinda skeptical. Now it's growing on me and I actually like the theme song. The 80s OLTL theme was a gem because of its song yet it was corny then but it's a classic now. That's how I see it with the new GL opening in the future.

IMHO, considering all the current soaps theme, GL ranks probably 3rd best one behind B&B and DAYS. The current ABC soaps credits are horrid and flashy, Y&R is depressing, and ATWT is too photogenic.

I think OLTL should revive their 80s opening theme now 1984 OLTL theme and revise it to today's feel, GH should go back to the Wendy Riche's 90s theme 1995 GH Opening Theme, and AMC should go back mid-90s as well. I like ATWT opening during 1993-1999 ATWT 93-99 theme with the big letters and Y&R should scrap the whole thing with something uplifting for the first time in its 35 year history.

Hey don't be hatin' on the OLTL 80's theme!! It may even be making a comeback soon!

Back to GL...I said this in the other thread, but I'll just repeat it here. The new opening isn't awful, but it does slightly fit the show's new style. The vocals are annoying and I wish they just kept an instrumental version of it. The logo is great and I love how it's over a lighthouse again at the end. The opening may be cheesy, but it's miles ahead of the 70th anniversary crap.

I used to watch this show back in the 90s during the Nancy Curlee years. Back then, they had a very simple opening and a great theme song. This opening, like another poster said, just doesn't fit with the show. I like the idea of incorporating exteriors but they totally missed the mark.

Didn't they say there were multiple versions of the opening? Could there be a non-vocal version out there?

Longtime soap viewers probably know the late 1970s and early 1980s Edge of Night theme had a vocal track that sometimes was sung over the closing credits. So did Search for Tomorrow and Y&R.

I myself didn't think it was bad. The jury's out for me on the close-up scenes with the minicams, but I like the location work.

"Everybody feels low, everybody feels high...".

Who wrote the lyrics? Sheryl Crow?

IMO, Y&R and DAYS have the best opens on daytime right now, b/c they adhere to tradition while keeping it fresh and contemporary.

If you take out the first part with the lows and highs, then the theme song would be cooler. I actually enjoy it. It's very catchy and can easily get stuck in your head. I've actually seen other versions of the opening and they look much better than this one. There are more faded cast shots to come. This is ten times better than hands grabbing each other and saying a chant.

    • This better be something, because as I said, so far it's just cliches and stereotypes -- the story we've heard a thousand times about the homeless person who doesn't want a home and prefers to live on the streets.
    • @rsclassicfanforever thank you very much for the recent uploads of season 13 containing some episodes that were skipped or glitchy on YouTube!  I had a look at 3172 though and there is no audio for most of it? Would you have a copy with complete audio? Fingers crossed! Thanks again!

    • I like Margaret well enough in what I've seen of her as Paige - she is green but she has real star power.  I agree about the actor who plays Brian. He's...mostly just there. Not bad but not great.  My main issue is with the guy who plays Owen. He's just not appealing to me. I can believe Nola being obsessed with him, but he's draining to watch.  I'm surprised people objected to the quasi-incest elements as it wasn't anything that new for soaps.  Speaking of Kim, here's a rare episode of an anthology show she did called The Evil Touch.

    •   I get what you're both saying, and I think the show was lucky to have even made it that long, but I think they could have still maintained a certain audience - Second Chances did before the earthquake. CBS was an older network anyway. I think the premise of Knots was still usable, it was more the characters who were a problem - many of the older figures were played out. If the show had done a better job building up its younger cast instead of making so many poor choices in the late '80s and early '90s, they could have kept things going a little longer.
    • I wish I cared about the homeless lady as much as everyone else seems to. After the nothing burger that was the lawsuit, this just feels like another boring Naomi storyline at Orphy Genes since she has no office.
    • That's great to hear. Thanks. I wish that was more readily available.
    • Just learned that Clifton Davis wrote this song!  I had no idea.

    • I think even if Marland had wanted to write more for Sara/Adam, his hands would have been tied as Robert Milli was one of the actors dumped by P&G due to his age.  From the bits and pieces I've seen of that period, Sara does have a key role in the Carrie plot, and Marland briefly gave her son Tim a more important part. I'm not sure if they just gave up on Tim once Kevin Bacon left or if they never really cared. I did not even know for many years that there was an actor in the part after Kevin...and then not one, but two. The Spauldingfield video on Tim doesn't even show the last actor (Nigel Reed), which kind of says it all. Anyway, I do get the sense Marland has some use for Sara, or for Millette. It's only after he goes that she is dumped. Of course he didn't ever hire her for his other shows, so maybe I'm wrong. (then again he never hired Geraldine Court either and he seemed very fond of her) Ann is an odd character to me as she is a proto-Lillian in being defined by pining for a Bauer brother and being involved in the death of one of their wives. I do wonder what else they could have done with her. She was friends with Diane, wasn't she? They could have had Diane manipulate her against Mike, I suppose.
    • Yassss....come on Maurice and Brandon...give us nothing!!! Wow, their need to develop their craft shone like a blinding light this episode. Brandon in his Martin and Smitty scenes sounded like he was reading and the facial expressions were giving Disney Channel. He did much better against Maurice in the Martin v Ted scenes. Now, Teddd-dyy (Dana's voice) was just flat. I watched the episode just now after reading the comment on here that Maurice needs to stop swaying, and now I can't unsee it. Has it really been this bad all along?  Ambyr carries. I don't need to say anymore. I am kind of excited to see this Kat/Tomas/Eva stuff play out.  Bill is such a dick to Dani. Like that's the mother of your children that you cheated on with your daughter's best friend but you look to take those low blows. Lord! When he said that thing about it being obvious he didn't care about Dani anymore since he was the one that walked out...that was cold. I even felt for Dani. Bill definitely is all over the spectrum. You can see a villain possibly surfacing, but you also see this great father. The elder Duprees move a little funny. I'm wondering what that is all about. Are they just overly protective matriarch and patriarch because they think it's what's best for their family, or are they afraid their secrets will come out or there's something more sinister there. Why would Vernon want to keep that information from Martin?  I hope something interesting comes out of this June stuff, but as of right now, I'm not too invested. It's not helping my interest on Naomi or Jacob either. However, tge actress playing Naomi has comes a long way from day one.
