Members Paul Raven
We recently had a post about recasts that were generally regarded as flops. This time, what recasts do you think worked well -a good character/popular actor that was replaced and kept alive by the new actor's interpretation and accepted by the viewers. My thoughts Jill on Y&R -apart from Bond Gideon, who was on briefly, each actress playing Jill has put her stamp on the role and kept that character a vital part of the show. Even Brenda Dickson's second stint on the show.which turned Jill into a campy vixen, was entertaining, and because she was the original Jill had some credibility. Deborah Adair and Jess Walton have also been great in the role. Jack Abbott-I preferred Terry Lester, but there's no denying that Peter Bergman has made a success of the role over the years. Robert Kelker Kelly as Bo on Days.It was rare that one half of a super couple was recast but most fans seemed to accept the new Bo(the fact that Hope wasn't around probably helped) Your thoughts... Members MarkH
Total 100% agreement with your choices. I must say, Peter Bergman would NOT have made my list...and even now, I have a hard time thinking of him as a "recast". He basically reinvented the character, and gave him many more shadings. I didn't truly love him in the role until he started doing some "badder" things, especially last year's epilepsy story.
Members DaytimeFan
Jess Walton as Jill Abbott. Hands down the best of the best. She not only stepped flawlessly into Brenda Dickson's stilettos but crushed them and made them into her own. Jess reinvented the role of Jill, she made her an angry, wild, sensual bitch. To me she's the gold standard. 10 out of 10. Peter Bergman as Jack Abbott. He has brought so much to the role, he's given Jack so many layers that Terry Lester never quite managed. Like Walton, he is the best of the best. Victoria Wyndham as Rachel Cory. While Robin Strasser is a fabulous actress her time as Rachel doesn't compare to Wyndham's run which was damn near perfect (the Justine stuff can be forgotten). Wonderful! Lauren Koslow as Kate Roberts. I'm a big Koslow fan and thought she reinvented the role of Kate. Deborah Adair played her as sort of a heroine while Koslow went for the jugular as a no holds barred bitch. Fantastic actress, made Kate work for 12 fun years. I'm disgusted that DAYS is doing away with her. Joan Collins as Alexandra Spaulding. Probably my favorite recast. Ever. It just seemed like such a coup for GL to land someone like Collins in such a pivotal role. She gave Alex (who I will admit was absolutely epitomized by Beverlee McKinsey, no contest she's Alex) the sort of energy and wickedness that Marj Dusay never did. It is just such a shame that MADD and Collins did not get along. Joan was absolutely wasted in her 3 month run, but boy was she fantastic!

Members Noel
I agree Daytime Fan about Joan Collins as Alexandra Spaulding on Guiding Light. I was so stoked when I heard the news because I knew that Joan Collins could play Alexandra extremely well, plus Alex has never been too keen on Alan's relationships, and during that time, Alan was dating/engaged to Olivia Spencer, so I just knew sh!t would be hitting the fan between Alex and Olivia. And it did! Joie Bethany Lenz as Michelle Bauer comes to mind. Kimberly Simms as Melinda Sue Lewis. I liked Elizabeth Savage as Gwenyth Alden on Loving. Whoever the second actress was who played Caitlin Richards Deschanel on Sunset beach. I liked her a lot. Heather Lindell as Jan Spears on Days of our Lives. Members Paul Raven
I thought Sandra Nelson was an excellent Phyllis recast on Y&R,but I think she was put on recurring and just faded away, like so many others. Am I correct in thinking this and that Phyllis was offscreen for some time before Michelle Stafford returned. Brenda Epperson did a good job as NuAshley, although she lacked the tough edge of Eileen Davidson. She also got stuck with the godawful Blade romance... Anne Heche was a great replacement for Ellen Wheeler as Marley/Vicky on AW.Jensen Buchanan also played the role successfully for many years and obviously had a lot of support but the character changed a lot. Claire Malis and Robin Strasser were accepted as Dorian after Nancy Pinkerton on OLTL.Elaine Princi did a good job but had to deal with following Strasser, who had made the role her own. Members Antoyne
Martha Madison as Belle Black on Days. She took one of the most unlikable characters on the show in my opinion and made her mature to such a level I don't Kirsten Storms could have ever handled. And Ironically I think Kirsten Storms is doing fantastic over at GH as Maxie.
Members DevotedToAMC
What I meant was she started out as Courtney and then they morphed her into Super Bunny so it was as if she was recasted from Courtney to Super Bunny
