Y&R Week of Jan 14-18

This is been a good week so far, so much character interaction and well thought out conversations. Y&R continues to gradually improve during the writer's strike.

Tammin Sursok as NotColleen was actually good today too, I think she's slowly growing on me.

I loved the set design for Sharon's Chicago hotel room, Y&R still has the best set designers in daytime.

I also laughed at Victor and Heather at the Athletic Club, the stare and demeanor were so Victor and Heather looked like she was about to wet herself.

I HATE NuColleen. THe actress is so bland. She definitely annoys me more than Lily. That scene between NotColleen und BoreMeToTears Heltsrom recently was THE most boring scene ever on TV. Both actors sucked every single ounce of life out of each other. It was amazing - in a very tormenting way.

I loved Nikki realizing her accounts have been frozen. This was a classic Y&R cliffhanger - sort of. MTS is impressing me these days. And I FLOVE the cocky demeanor of TGVN. If these writers could just make Jill the true Jill Foster Abbott again this show would really be much more interesting....

I will never be sold on NuColleen. Latham firing Adrienne Leon was one of her worst decisions.

Victor and Heather was priceless. I was just waiting for Heather to be just like ok charges dropped and run away LOL.

I love that the REAL Victor is back :D

Today's show was really good, probably the best show of the week so far. It almost felt like classic Y&R again, and the directing was very reminiscent of the old Y&R.

I'm actually liking Sharon and Jack and I loved that Sharon stood up to Brad and let him know that she loves Jack.

The Newman drama stuff was the best part and each of those scenes ended with cliffhangers, really good techniques there...

I could've done without Lily and Cane, but other than that, a pretty flawless episode.

Jana gets off? Um ok...

Eric Braeden and Melody Thomas Scott were magic in today's episode. They're truly the best thing about the show right now. Both actors are rocking this, and they're problems have rippling effects throughout the whole Newman clan and business. Victor and Nikki have been down this road before, but something about this split is different and it's being handled well. Melody in particular has been on fire for over a year now, if there's one thing LML did well, it was to utilize MTS.

2008 is off to a better start than 2007 was...

I totally agree. Nikki and Victor are the central focus of this show right now and they have made them interesting. I hate Nikki and Victor when they are all happy and no conflict. I love when there is conflict and they just feed off each other. The way Victor berated Nikki, I was laughing my ass off.

"I want you where I found you, with nothing!"

"Go back to the damn strip club, where I found you. That way if things get tight, something to fall back on."

I so agree, Victor and Nikki are magic.

Jana got off....okay, a bit random considering she did actually kill Carmen. I would have figured Victor blasting Heather would have worked...oh well.

And HELL YES GIVE JILL HER BALLS BACK!

I'm looking forward to whatever made Katherine dizzy at Crimson Lights when she was discussing Australia. Hopefully some repressed memories about giving away Cane and/or the fact that she and Jill aren't related are beginning in surface!

No, Kay, Jill, and Cane were at Crimson Lights and were about ready to leave when she stumbled. They didn't really dwell on it, but Jill and Cane thought it might be something serious, but the Kay insisted she was OK. If they're gonna give Kay some type of illness, that was a good set-up. We got to see signs and details, something Latham would have never given to us.

    • I always thought the cliffhanger was so anticlimactic, compared to the Dallas cliffhanger that year and three years earlier when Kirby strangled Alexis, which Blake stopped. The Matthew cliffhanger was dull as hell.
    • Setting aside a general distaste for the story -- I was sitting here wondering how long Erica's doppelgänger Jane story lasted?  Also, how did it begin?  What was the setup for Erica to have a double?
    • Fixed. Thanks for letting me know.   DA's passing truly saddened me. More than many of the recent passings. I was holding out hope we'd get one more visit  before she passed.

    • Made even dumber with that Blake/Alexis chokehold, followed by the following season when Matthew resurfaced. WTF? There’s good reason I have skipped from Season 5 straight to Season 9 on a couple of my Dynasty rewatches lol. And Chase was supposed to die, but somehow they talked Foxworth back into one more season. They probably shouldn’t have at all.
    • Philip, like Reva, were characters that should have remained in the 80s and never been bought back to the soap.
    • I was just going through the vault and watching some random episodes from 2001, then 2006. Sigh. What a different show it was back then. It makes me so sad that it’s barely a shell of its former self. It was always so multigenerational. There were compelling stories for all generations without having to sacrifice anything to make it work.
    • We are exactly the same. Ashland Locke at least had potential until JG decided to ruin that as he’s known to do with just about everything. It’s clear Sony and CBS don’t give a [!@#$%^&*].
    • Considering Naomi/Jacob are helping with June... and that she and Jacob have a complicated history with Hayley.. there is more soap opera potential having June and Hayley being related.    This is the downside of the show having one huge extended family... anyone not related to the family are boxed in a corner (i.e. Ashley/Derek, Tomas, Hayley/Bill).   If this were a 30 minute soap, I could understand the one family focus.. but this an hour soap so we best be getting a second family and/or characters not connected to the Duprees unless through work/romantic.. etc.
    • That guy also abused Beth (the one Lizzie killed), which the show probably should have done more with rather than just giving her a split personality and having her do whatever the plot demanded.
    • Thanks @slick jones I should mention that someone on the comments for the Ryan's Hope video with Susan Marie Snyder said the episode must have aired in July 1985. Those photos of Denise Alexander are lovely. The one with Denise, Leslie Charleson and Susan Brown got me emotional. We were so lucky to have them for so long.
