January 7, 200818 yr Administrator http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/ SOURCES: NBC And Hollywood Foreign Press Association Cancel Televised Golden Globes; Entire Event Will Be Scrapped The Hollywood writers strike can now claim its first awards show casualty. The latest I'm hearing from my sources as of a few minutes ago is that NBC will not be televising the Golden Globes as planned on January 13th. Insiders tell me also that the entire event, even if it were held untelevised, will be cancelled. And the Hollywood Foreign Press Association instead will merely make an announcement of the winners. I've not yet received any official confirmation of any of this. But insiders tell me that NBC Universal topper Jeff Zucker and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association which bestows the Golden Globes made the decision together.

January 7, 200818 yr Member Damm..i really wanted to watch this..but it would have been pointless without actors to accept the awards..
January 7, 200818 yr Member It was SAG's solidarity with the WGA which scrapped this event.... lets hope they don't lead to he Oscars cancellation either.
January 7, 200818 yr Member Apparently NBC will still "broadcast" the Globes but in a very different format.... NBC reveals scaled back Golden Globes broadcastThe network plans to use its news shows to circumvent writers' strike. John Horn, Times Staff Writer 1:28 PM PST, January 7, 2008 The state of the Golden Globes is still up in the air but more information should come to light this afternoon when a planned press conference is expected to reveal that the Globes Awards show will not go on in its traditional format. Instead, according to an email sent to the movie studios to NBC on Monday, the Golden Globes will proceed as follows: At 7pm NBC will air Dateline with clips and interviews with nominees. (Currently scheduled to air for two hours on Saturday night.) At 8pm, NBC is in talks with Dick Clark Enterprises for a one-hour retrospective/clip show. At 9pm there will be a press conference covered by NBC News announcing the Golden Globe winners. (9pm-10pm) At 10pm NBC will broadcast an "Access Hollywood" style, Golden Globes party show... visiting the various parties in Hollywood. Check back here for more updates throughout the day. January 7, 200818 yr Member It was SAG's solidarity with the WGA which scrapped this event.... lets hope they don't lead to he Oscars cancellation either. From what I heard ABC can't cancel the telecast because advertising had already been sold for the Oscars.
January 7, 200818 yr Member The Golden Globes aren't really taken seriously as a respected award, so the writers weren't hesistant to try to ruin it this year, LOL. A nice hefty chunk of lost advertising revenue for NBC, though, which is what the writers want. The Oscars, I'm thinking, will continue with the cooperation of the WGA. For one, it's the most respected of the awards shows (obviously), and most of the governors and officials of the Academy are either WGA, SAG, or DGA members. All of its members are guild members.
January 8, 200818 yr Member They're just going to announce the winners? Why not postpone it instead? Until July, when nobody cares about the previous year's movies and tv anymore?
January 8, 200818 yr Author Administrator Until July, when nobody cares about the previous year's movies and tv anymore? LOL I guess you're right.
January 8, 200818 yr Member Good god this strike needs to end. I'm all for the writers getting a fair shake but this has gone on long enough!
January 8, 200818 yr Member Oh, people! Are you really peeved because the strike has killed the Golden Globes ceremony? Only the red-carpet arrivals satisfy me.
January 8, 200818 yr Member I like the Globes because it is much more relaxed than the Oscars and seems more like a party. Plus I like the mixing of television stars and movie stars. And to see who's had a little too much to drink
January 8, 200818 yr Member WHY!!! this was my fave award show to go to! aside from the daytime emmys. all the stars would be drunk and dancing and having a grea time. the oscars are way to tense.
January 9, 200818 yr Member As long as the Writers Strike is still ongoing, a lot of things could be halted. They are already talking how all of this could affect the upcoming Oscar awards... Also too, would this affect any of the other possible telecast award shows, such as the 50th Grammy Awards that is to come up February... The SAG Awards will go on in January, since they reached an agreement with the writers for it to go on... No red carpet, no one on ones and no parties....The only thing that will be done for the Golden Globes is a one hour telecast announcing who all won that year..that's it.
