Wish I was surprised.

Guess as AMC shrinks it's writing team now that breakdowns are a thing of the past it's the vets that are going to go and (cheap) people like Taylor and Bugler who will stay.

Every eppie Michelle Patrick worked on had at least some value to it. The interim period last summer was incredibly boring but I loved the little things she did with her episodes like actually giving substantial brother/sister conversations to Derek and Livia, something nobody else had bothered to do.

QUOTE (Chris B @ Apr 14 2008, 04:00 PM)
Scott Hamner stayed at Port Charles when the hack left. His return is very worrying. Even his primetime stuff wasn't well recieved. I'll admit I actually enjoyed his season of Knots Landing, but it is one of the most unpopular among fans. His stint at PC post-LML was dreadful as well. Considering the show isn't that great as it is, I'm shaking in my boots. It's a good thing I have Dark Shadows and Peyton Place to keep me interested in soaps.

MAB needs to get it together fast. If SH is back as Co-HW, it's only a matter of time before she's upgraded to HW. Time is running out for us being easy on her. Sylph is going to be begging Kay Alden to return at this rate, lol.

ETA:

As Co-HW that means he'll be pitching stories right? We know that the awful Carmen Mesta mystery was his idea. *sigh*

This so completely worries me. Totally.

KEEP THAT MYSTERY-WRITING-CHARLATAN AWAY from my show. I really think he deserves a lot more blame than LML for much of what has gone wrong.

The ONLY saving grace is that maybe they'll tie up the Plum and Ji Min murders, and explain what Carson was about. Like many of you, I don't really care...but these are open threads. I'd like the stories dispatched within a single episode...closed up...moved on.

It really may be that MAB is tied to a bunch of contract cycles. Trying to avoid another WGA lawsuit.

OR

Josh Griffith DID come on with LML. Maybe he had a hand in assembling that team. Maybe he likes a lot of members of that team. Many on that team WERE credited with improving pacing, dialogue, etc.

So, maybe this is a good thing? Good dialogue writers under the direction of a strong editor and leader? I'm grasping at straws, I know. I feel that the return of Hamner signals the apocalypse, and nothing less.

Thanks! Sylph and I are on the same page when it comes to Alden (even though I adore her!): she's burnt out. She spent 34 years with the show, the characters and their storylines. At some point every writer runs out of fresh ideas. That is why I firmly believe that if she was at Y&R as a consulting producer/story consultant she could do an amazing amount of good without furthering her own creative burnout or carrying the show on her stressed shoulders. Ideally, her role would involve vetoing storylines that were out of character for the show, commenting on episode structure, just basically offering her valid opinion about the show because I truly believe she *gets* the Bill Bell style better than anyone else.

I also believe that she absolutely likes Brad Bell and that he likes her the same. I do not think Brad would ever hire someone out of obligation or as a 'business deal'...he doesn't need to. I think B&B offers Kay the sort of freedom from corporate USA which drove her nuts. I honestly never found a 'miss' in her solo run from 1998-2001, to me it was all one big hit (including the Sperm storyline which I thought made perfect sense with the desperation Diane felt after Victor dumped her).

I hope Rex Best surfaces at Y&R soon. He's very talented. I'm not willing to through MAB under the bus yet, this is a very transitional time at Y&R and I am confident that stroking Eric Braeden's ego is objective number one. I also think Y&R is hoping to avoid a WGA lawsuit. The only redeeming thing about Scott Hamner is that he spoke very highly of Joan Collins (who I adore) once in an interview. Aside from that he's the hackiest of hacks. The writing team needs to be scaled down majorly, it's still ridiculous. Furthermore, I think the hiring of Beth Millstein comes courtest of Steve Kent. After all, DAYS is a Sony show...Kent probably saw how well she did and thought "well hot damn, Y&R is a mess, let's send her on over!" just like I believe happened with Ed Scott going from Y&R to DAYS.

She didn't just write about Victor's sperm, she wrote about Jack's and his sperm deposit after the testicular cancer thing.

I cannot wait for Y&RWorldTurner to write about her storylines. If he intends to do so.

P. S. If you're reading this, Y&RWorldTurner, I'm waiting for the Mariah thing. :P

I'll have to reseach to remember when certain stioryline occured and make sure I don't mix any of Alden'a solo work up with something Smith might have creadted. In general, 98 and 99 were strong years, however, by 2000 the show had gotten stale, whether that was due to friction between Alden and Ed Scott or just one of them, who knows. I thought 2001, 2002, and especially 2003 were strong years for Y&R, perhaps the show's best years post-Bill Bell and those were all attributed to Jack F. Smith and David Shughnessy in some way. I don't think Alden had must power once Smith became the show's main HW

I'll have to look though this massive thread on her on another board I post on first. Until then, just indulge in her blandness, won't you? :P
