February 18, 200817 yr Member AMC fans might not want to start a thing to het B&E outed, not now that LML is free...
February 18, 200817 yr Member QUOTE (Chris B @ Feb 18 2008, 05:22 AM) A good HW like Bill Bell or Douglas Marland can acknowledge when something isn't working and MOVE ON. Frankly, and Clear Springs notwithstanding, LML never stuck with anything long enough to know if a story was working or not.
February 18, 200817 yr Author Administrator OLTL: - Ron Carlivati & Gary Tomlin first listed as Co-Head Writers on February 18 Now they're listed together.
February 18, 200817 yr Member OLTL: - Ron Carlivati & Gary Tomlin first listed as Co-Head Writers on February 18 Now they're listed together. Wait...so does this mean Ron crossed the picket lines during the strike?
February 18, 200817 yr Member I would lovvvvvvvve a Ron/Gary team. Who else thinks it'll stay this way?
February 18, 200817 yr Member I would lovvvvvvvve a Ron/Gary team. Who else thinks it'll stay this way? If ABC would keep them, since IF Ron crossed the picket lines he went FiCore or was a scab that would mean Gary and Ron would probably both be in danger, but I'd LOVE it! I adore Ron and Gary. Gary made OLTL fantastic from 2001-2002.
February 18, 200817 yr Author Administrator Wait...so does this mean Ron crossed the picket lines during the strike? No, no. Ron didn't cross the picket lines. I believe they're listed together because Gary's rewriting some of Ron's material.
February 18, 200817 yr Member Maybe as soon as the strike was over, Ron was so excited and went right in and went crazy adding to Gary's stuff. It could happen.
February 18, 200817 yr Member No, no. Ron didn't cross the picket lines. I believe they're listed together because Gary's rewriting some of Ron's material. Thank you again for clarifying...I was just so confused there for a bit.
February 18, 200817 yr Member QUOTE (Chris B @ Feb 18 2008, 04:22 AM) I honestly don't think any LML writers should be kept on. They have no history of the show and were purposely brought on because their style is completely different from what Y&R is about. The biggest problem with LML's Y&R was the horrible pacing and structure of the episodes. Odd quick cuts in the middle of big emotional moments, 2 second scenes, focus on plot, zero character development, etc. Wouldn't this be mainly the work of an AHW? Sorry, maybe I'm heartless, but I feel ZERO sympathy for LML and her team. You know what fans want, you see the complains and like every bad HW decide to continue on your bad chance. You weren't fired, you gave up your job, IMO. A good HW like Bill Bell or Douglas Marland can acknowledge when something isn't working and MOVE ON. It makes me sick to think that these people were coming to "save" the bloody #1 soap! Man, I'm already ready for the new HW to be announced. I can't wait until this is written up in the soap mags. I want more! Toups, do you have any behind the scenes tidbits about this? Have you heard anything from LML's writers? As I said before, Toups said more writers are expected to be fired soon. I highly doubt they could've fired the whole writing team in one swoop for legal reasons. I can't imagine all of Latham's friends sticking around if a non-Latham friend is made Head Writer pretty soon. It's all a matter of time, and hopefully we learn soon who is Y&R's next Head Writer and who is coming and going... Edited February 18, 200817 yr by Y&RWorldTurner
February 18, 200817 yr Member I should add, I think Sony/CBS/Bell handled the firings of Y&R's writers much better than Corday/Sony did with the DAYS' firings. For all we know, DAYS still has to pay off Hogan until his contract cycle ends, whereas Latham and friends were possibly fired after their contract cycle ended. Also, the whole DAYS writing team is virtually gone, where at Y&R, the new head writer will have less stress with immediately building a new writing team. They can work with what he/she/they have and gradually phase out Latham's friends, while bringing in their new (or former Y&R) writers. Whereas DAYS has to start from scratch and has much more stress with starting a new writing team.
February 18, 200817 yr Member I emailed Gottesfeld and Bennett via their official website and I got an email back from Bennett. I, of course, told how disappointed I was in LML (after being her biggest supporter), then wished them luck in the future and stressed how great Bill Bell's show was. I also provided them with lots of classic clips to help them out. Being the Jill Abbott obssessed fan I am, I also sent love her way and to Phillip IV and the insanely fabulous Tricia Cast. Hopefully Gottesfeld also sends me a response!

February 19, 200817 yr Member She confirmed that she and her husband are still AHW's at Y&R and thanked me "for being such a loyal and discerning viewer." She said she loves the show. Not much but it was still very exciting.
February 19, 200817 yr Member QUOTE (Chris B @ Feb 18 2008, 04:13 PM) She confirmed that she and her husband are still AHW's at Y&R and thanked me "for being such a loyal and discerning viewer." She said she loves the show. Not much but it was still very exciting. I've just emailed them both. Might as well try while they're still accessible. I let them know how *awful* LML was and wished them well and told them to follow the lead of Bill Bell, Kay Alden, Josh Griffith and Maria Arena Bell. I just spelled out how bad the LML era was. Hopefully they weren't part of the problem and will instead be part of the solution. Here's her response: "Thank you for taking the time to email me. I have the greatest respect for the history of Y&R, and how important that is to the loyal viewers. I promise to keep it in mind." It's the 'right' answer...but also something LML said back when she was promoted. Makes me go 'hmmmmmmmmmm' Edited February 19, 200817 yr by DaytimeFan
