2008: The Directors and Writers Thread

Change of topic: I'm not a regular DOOL watcher, I "check in" now and then to see what's going on, but today I had it on during lunch and I have to say I was truly SHOCKED how bad the dialogue was! Was this an aberration or is it the norm? One creaky cliche after another. If I had friends who talked that way I'd get new friends. No matter what you might think of Hogan's era, at least he had the good sense to get fabulously talented scriptwriters. They fired Bettina Bradbury and Judy Donato (two of the best in the business) for THIS? Sad.

Three of their scriptwriters are still the same as HS's team.

Although the dip in the quality of their work is pretty noticeable too. I think everyone over there is scratching their heads in confusion.

Yeah, I feel bad for Renee, Jodie and Cydney. They don't get to write memorable scenes anymore like they did during Hogan's last few months. No more scenes like Philip in the church, Marlena threatning Stefano, John/Marlena in the hospital room after finding John alive, Marlena talking about her patient, the Dimera family dinner.....just to name a few. We just don't get those quality scenes anymore. :(

Maybe it's because they're matched up with horrible breakdowns?

Even then, the drop in quality dialogue is very noticeable on DAYS. I don't think it has anything to do with "memorable scenes." The script writers on GH have to write dialogue to crappy scenes all the time and they do a MUCH better than anyone at DAYS or any other soap for that matter.

They do a spectacular job every single day. Every single one of them. :D

True enough, A.

Perhaps there was some coasting being done on some writers' parts last year...

I don't want to say that. But it seems like there might be some truth to it

Maybe. It must be exhausting writing breakdowns, story projections, thrusts all at once.

Sadly, not even they can make GH watchable. :(

The show is just... unbearable.

It's a shame, GH has the best writing team in the industry, yet it also has one of the worst HW's ever.

It's not if you just throw as many flashbacks as possible into the outline. And throw in a few repeated scenes from the day before too.

Piece of cake. See? Who said writing soaps was tough...

 That 6 minutes worth of flashbacks in a 9 minute act was the worst I've ever seen. <_<

Wordy McWord, Kubla Khan!

Please, Jonathan, why are you defending her in the slightest? ATC deserves all the trouble in world

I feel like calling NATAS now and dropping a dime...

Because we're dating.

I bet she promised she'd get your name on the ballot next year so you too can be an Emmy winner for doing nothing during the eligibility period! ;)

Who says I don't already have one on my mantel? (Actually, it's not mine, it's hers - I just stare at it every evening.)

ETA: And this ladies and gentlemen is my 500th post, and I'm finally on contract! :D
