Everything is about the money, it's just that people don't realise it. Soaps exist because no one found a new business model to replace them with. Until then, they'll stay on air. Just without Passions, thank you.

I dont believe this. Where is the logic? First we hear how great Passions is doing and bam it's canned. Crack is a hell of a drug.

What's NBC's largest cable station? I think it's USA, right? USA would be my #1 choice.

Along with Sci-Fi and USA, Bravo is another NBC own cable channel.

Anyway, there's a lot riding on PSNS' ability to exist on cable or some other alternative. If PSNS was to find a home on a cable channel or other outlet, it would be the model that other soaps look to follow. If PSNS were higher rated, I'm sure it would have more of a "stake" as to whether or not it can succeed.

The execs will use this as a way to see if soaps can succeed. The fact is, if ABC soaps were to go off the air tomorrow, they have an outlet on SOAPnet. They could easily put their soaps from 1-3, an anchor the primetime re-runs after it. Would the shows probably have to go through some budget cuts? I'm sure they would, but they have an option.

It is important for PSNS to succeed, not only for it's future, but for the future of the other soaps as well.

If NBC puts PSNS on a cable channel they own and does well, CBS might think of putting a soap (if they ever decide to cancel their soaps one day....down the road) on Showtime or another cable channel they own.

With PSNS on DTV, now other shows know to get in bed with them. DTV is just not trustworthy.

So why not use PSNS for another experiment to see if it works. It doesn't anyone to try.

What if we see Alice Horton before the Olympics say "I'm searching for all the days of my life. And I can't wait." With the cast giving final goodbyes, etc.

And then, during the squeeze credits, we see ads during the Olympics with the cast of PASSIONS playing with each other and that Erasure song playing.

"You loved, you missed it...it's back! PASSIONS returns to NBC after Beijing!"

But Passions is "soap". It's over the top, it's campy, it's tongue in cheek. Do I think they have gone completely overboard at times? Yes I have. PSNS has tried to be groundbreaking, and in a way they have. They just tend to drive into the ground.

At this point, my want for PSNS to succeed is more than just the future of the show, or my like or dislike of it.

Passions would never work on USA, LOL! Though USA was producing Law & Order: Criminal Intent on its own for a while this season, something like Passions is totaly out of their daytime programming preferences. USA gets higher ratings out of running reruns of shows like Law & Order: SVU in the daytime than it ever would with original programing. USA's also one of the top 5 cable networks, if NBC canceled the show on its main network, they aren't placing it on their biggest cable outlet. The show is all wrong for Bravo too.

I could possibly see Passions on Oxygen, though they probably won't have success with a soap. Remember when they tried airing Neighbours a few years back and it didn't last long?

I personally thought SUNSET BEACH was always better at being over the top and campy, without going overboard(turkey baster insemination being a small exception).

Gary Tomlin and his crew at the BEACH were waaay better, although I admit, PASSIONS has had some pretty interesting moments.(Yeah, I have "Love Is Ecstacy" on my iPod. Don't judge me! Too harshly!)

Barely any soap is worthy of being called a "soap" these days. They have ALL turned into something soaps were originally not.

I'd never wish cancellation on Passions, I just don't want it to be tossed around from place to place. But Ryan makes a point, it could depend on the future of soaps.
