GH - Week of November 12th Discussion

...Anyone remember when I was saying that GH was the best soap on the air and how Guza was a great head writer? Well, I apologize.

Over the course of less than a year, GH has gone from mature and cutting-edge to camp, camp, camp. Killing Alan was poignant and sad, but killing EMILY is disgusting and cruel. We watched the girl grow up, saw her through drug addiction, first love, paralysis, marriage, rape, finding love... yes, we saw tons of Alan too but he had been on the back burner for years. This story was graphic and mean spirited, and only helps to erode the flailing Quartermaine family.

The problems don't start or stop with Emily, though. The great new characters like Coop, Logan, and Kate seem to be losing steam in favor of the random Zacchara family. Sam, once a heroine of the show, has turned into a hateful witch. Jax and Jerry have lost all subtext. Liz and Jason have lost rooting value. Lulu's becoming tiresome.

Can we PLEASE get Ron Carlivati to take over?

I have to say, the performances today have been absolutely brilliant. Everyone's doing their very best work.

--I LOVE Nadine. I don't know why, but there's something about her I absolutely adore. "Not to be disrespectful, but can we all agree that it would not be a good idea to take Lulu anyhwere?"

Julie Marie Berman really impressed me today, and she hasn't in a while. Instead of acting like Laura Wright Jr, (which no actor should EVER DO!), she was subtle and reserved, I really believed that she was shocked and overcome by Emily's death. If she has more scenes like this, she'll actually win the Emmy next year, assuming she submits the rights reels of course.

Very glad that Emily is dead! It was either a recast or be killed off for me. Cooper should have been the one to kill Emily, not Nikolas. Then Nikolas should have avenged her murder by killing Cooper. Georgie is another character that should leave. Either have her go to university outside of PC or kill her off. Make the choice, Guza Jr.

Rebecca Herbst was amazing as always (the best thespian of the episode). Burton was good as well. I am liking Johnny Z. and his portrayer more and more (he walks the best). The earlier scenes with Sonny & Kate were well written. Is Mary Sue Price amazing or what? Guza's angels deserve a raise. William Ludel is a phenomenal director. What happened to Matthew Diamond. He is another gret director.

And to the person who wants Ron Carlivati to take over GH... <_< 2.3 million viewers & monthly record lows? I do not accept that outcome.

And to the person that didn't address me by my username... ever heard of having some fun? Nothing's getting cancelled. GH has a real mean streak to it right now, it's hard to watch. I don't want to tune in to watch a character I grew up with lying dead on the floor because some hack writer thought it would be sensationalistic and shocking. I also don't want to tune in to watch a group of seemingly intelligent adults all insist on splitting up in a big mansion while there is a killer on the loose, I don't want to watch the show's core families eroding in favor of the mob, I don't want to watch a soap about guns and I -certainly- don't want to watch a beautiful young woman being strangled viciously by her true love, even if it is just a nightmare. It's trash.

What I do want to watch: families interacting, love blossoming, generations intermingling, friendships being fostered, kids growing up, and, hmm, stories that are fun. Wait a minute... I think there's a show like that on a 2pm est on ABC every day...

If GH were perfect, I would say so. Without Guza's Angels, the show would be lost. People fail to realize the amazing contributions of Korte, Val Jean, Harris, Price, Wald and Thomson. MVJ should be GH's HW. She is passionate, creative, intelligent, talented, and most importantly, well-respected by her peers. Would anyone want to work for someone they strongly dislike? Look at Higley, her close friends are Gialanella & Myers, and they follow her from show to show. The same goes for JFP, Alden, Sheffer, and LML (huge contact list).

On the well-respected note, what was the "thing" between JE Reilly & Jeanne Marie Ford in 2006? Is there nothing to it?

I will give you one thing - the day to day stuff on GH can be phenomenal. I am one of the biggest Sonny/Kate fans mainly due to the beautiful, wistful dialogue that they shared during her early episodes. However, good dialogue can only carry a story so far. Sonny and Kate have managed to lose all their passion and chemistry thanks to the writing. Ditto Patrick and Robin. Hmm, not enough conflict between the two of them... I know! Bring on a bitchy third party from the spinoff and make Robin a jealous school girl!

Val Jean, Harris and maybe Thomson are the only names who should be credited with the great scripts GH tends to produce. Korte, Price and Wald are hacks and should be fired.

Would anyone want to work for someone they dislike? It happens. It doesn't matter if you like the person, but you have to respect them. It's known Alden & Smith didn't get along very well with Ed Scott, but they worked for him.

From the previews for tomorrow, it looks as if they might be planning to add some mystery to the strangling deaths. AZ is going to have to be doing a lot of running around.

I liked today's show. I think this is the first time that I've liked an entire episode in some time. The only thing that distracted me initially today was TC at the beginning of the show. I don't know where he was looking and he did the same thing in yesterday's episode. I liked Carly with Jason today and I liked her with Jax. I liked Sonny saying that he couldn't stop doing what he does and I liked Kate's response. I liked that he took responsibility for Emily's death even though I know that it had nothing to do with the mobsters. I liked that Elizabeth broke down at the end.

If they're keeping Jerry indefinitely then I hope they rework that character. There's a lot of reality to suspend in watching this show but with all that, people accepting his presence is a real stretch. I probably wouldn't have taken too much notice of that if they hadn't had him say something regarding his taking risks to protect Jax and Carly. 'See I recall not that long ago that he had given Jax up for dead. He brought a lot of misery to Emily so his saying something must've happened to her as though they were chums was a sore thumb kind of moment in what was an otherwise decent show.

I still don't believe that Emily's going to stay dead for that long so I'm looking at this from the perspective of whether it produces sufficient drama. I think if this is meant to provide the catalyst for certain characters re-evaluating their priorities then it might work well. If it is meant to provide TC with an opportunity to delve into something meaty then he's off to a good start.

    • I almost posted this because that was my initial reaction too:  this is weird/cringe, to sing around a piano after such a huge family shattering bomb was dropped.  But I got over that and just enjoyed her voice, the song and the montage we saw as everyone's emotions in the aftermath were pouring out.
    • The Equalizer original series was not a big hit yet it became a movie franchise and got a reboot series. The Equalizer reboot lasted 5 seasons, so one season longer than the original series.

His social media/IMDb doesn't have his age but from some posts he's made, I'm guessing 1989 is his birth year.
    • Here's the timeline, as I recall it being published. The WGA strike was 5/2–9/27/2023 Annalynne McCord was announced as being hired in December 2023, for a one-year contract https://deadline.com/2024/06/days-of-our-lives-when-to-expect-annalynne-mccord-peacock-1235975806/ RonC's first scripts back from the strike began airing May 31, 2024 (around Konstantine & Maggie's wedding) https://www.tvinsider.com/1137709/days-of-our-lives-writers-return-15000th-episode-storylines/ Her first air date was June 19th 2024. The actress has said she was not told who she would be playing until she started taping. RonC 's replacements were announced July 2024, with his scripts airing through April 2025 Side note: DAYS social media team seems to be playing fast and loose with BTS videos, in terms of how far in advance they film content (e.g. their April Fools' Joke videos were clearly not filmed on 4/1/25), so we shouldn't assume anyone's current status, versus those who were there nine months ago.
    • April and her husband (Draper) are the "young leads" who tie all the storyline threads together.  They're normally in the center of the action.  In this particular storyline, Draper is the attorney who represents Paige Madison.  (The district attorney, Logan Swift, has given Paige Madison "temporary immunity from prosecution" if she will lead the police to the members of the Tobias Gang who stole the firearms.  But Paige mainly just ducks bullets from various gang members who pop-up to assassinate her.)
    • It's one thing to post about a soap's rumors or gossip, which in point of fact we've all done. It's another to present yourself as the inside source who knows something to be fact that's about to break wide, then backtrack and call it just Twitter speculation. Between those two extreme poles you have to commit to one or the other. If I got something wrong, I'd say it. (Nor would I keep playing insider after what I pulled with Drake Hogestyn, which should've gotten someone permanently banned.) And regardless, you don't open with this 'news' you don't actually want to stand by yet by mocking DRW's extremely valid concerns re: how the Trina character and Tabyana Ali has been marginalized and put out to virtual pasture ever since the day NAC left. Her playing out her current contract in a C-storyline with Kai does not change that.
    • Yeah, I thought it would be more explosive or heated and it was kind of standard.  Both can do more with the material.  I just don't think the writing was there.
    • Daphnée and TMG are on Instagram live (as we speak) and are saying they don’t know why Maurice left.
