I got to watch the first women’s semifinal on replay and found it entertaining. So often tennis commentators overuse the phrase “contrast of styles” but in the case of Paolini vs. Vekic, this really seemed to be the case. The 2nd semifinal, I watched some of it on replay but it was kind of on in the background while I was multitasking. I know a tennis fan who would faithfully buy a pint of strawberries before every finals weekend of Wimbledon and the amount of enjoyment she would derive from her strawberries seemed to have a direct correlation to the quality of the matches, especially on the women’s side. Hopefully wherever she is now, she will have thoroughly enjoyed her strawberries by the end of the weekend.

The men's final was down from last year. The women's final was slightly up.

Sunday’s three-set Carlos Alcaraz-Novak Djokovic men’s final averaged 2.2 million, down 31% from last year’s five-set matchup of the same players (3.2M) and a three-year low.

On Saturday, the Barbora Krejčíková-Jasmine Paolini women’s final averaged 1.4 million — up 9% from Marketa Vondrousova-Ons Jabeur last year (1.3M) and the most-watched women’s final since Serena Williams’ last appearance in 2019 (2.4M).

Btw..

I didn't watch either final. That's how bored and uninterested I am in tennis.

I watched the women’s final and at least it was reasonably competitive, it was anyone’s match until the final few games. I saw some of the men’s final and it seemed fairly predictable. I still believe that ESPN, in particular, is ruining tennis for the most part. Viewing is piecemeal and unpredictable. The Slams are foolish to have sold exclusive rights to ESPN or dull TC, for that matter, especially streaming rights. How many years must we suffer through the McEnroe brothers?

Patrick McEnroe is just awful. He was a horrible player, coach and announcer.

I'm sure the bias Hall of Fame will put him in. They are already pimping to get in Brad Gilbert who never should be in it!

John Isner will be next! Watch!!

    • Huge kudos to the production team and the writers - we truly got to witness some beautiful and heartfelt moments between John’s extended family. DAYS really pulled off a touching and fitting goodbye for both Bill Hayes (Doug) and Drake Hogestyn (John). You could feel the love and respect for Drake throughout. He came across as a real “super dad,” deeply loved by so many. And Deidre... wow. So strong, holding it all together - she deserves her own standing ovation. A few thoughts that came to mind… I wish we got a short scene of Roman sitting with John - just to thank him for looking after his kids all those years (Carrie, Sami, Eric), and to acknowledge that John and Marlena truly belonged together. It would’ve been such a meaningful moment of closure. I kept hoping Kristen would sneak into John’s room to say goodbye - maybe apologize for all the pain she caused, and tell him she really did (or does) love him. But I get it - it wouldn’t be the same without Eileen Davidson. Still, how incredible would it be if Eileen came back for a few episodes and we got some classic flashbacks? And Sami. Where is Sami?! A goodbye scene between her and John felt essential - with her finally thanking him, and apologizing for all the heartache between them. So much history there. Really hoping we’ll see all of John’s kids and grandkids at his memorial - and also Maggie and Julie. Marlena could really use the support of those who’ve known her the longest.

    • Is that scene from the horrendous Donna/Nick/Pam triangle the show tried at that time?

Some awkward vibes in the interview, although it was interesting to hear him talk about Knots Landing and also mention that he was writing a primetime project with Ken Corday (did that go anywhere?). He also mentions plans to leave again eventually for a primetime soap.
    • Great watch !  I'm reminded how far the show had moved away from the Ryans during this period…Not a trace of the Ryans.  This episode bares no resemblance to the original Ryan’s Hope. Traci Lin is much more compelling than I remember.  Wonder what she would have accomplished if she had stuck it out... Scott Holmes is much more appealing here than on ATWT.  His Tom Hughes was always kinda sour. Grant Show sure did come along way.  His biggest talent here is his chest. Cali Timmons Cali Timmons Cali Timmons…What a star !  I really enjoyed Maggie as the show's heroine.  I wish she had done more work after she left daytime.  But she found love on RH with Geoff Pierson -- that’s probably better than a career.
    • Well, natch....but I mean, they never got a love scene onscreen? I'm just surprised. Although I guess it took Beth and Lujack longer than I expected too.

    • Better than 90 percent of what I see today on my screen. Absolutely mesmerizing.
