What the hell is with these HW's who know nothing

Where's the article/proof that LML is watching the crap she dishes poor viewers herself?

She DID watch the show before taking over as part of her consulting job - that's what I remember. Then, she also watched B&B on her own and got acquainted with her favorite character ever then known as Amber now known as Pornbrosia. *rolls eyes*

To say the least, she learned nothing from either show...

In all honesty: Why should a writer watch his own show every day? Maybe I'm just baffled because I always picture the Bell shows where the writers like Bill Bell, Kay Alden, Brad Bell have always been in LA, had an office at the studio and there therefore too close to production so that they had to watch it on TV.

However, if that's not the case - the headwriter should be checking the stuff that reaches on-screen every once in a while. Bu I guess the influence is sometimes small anyway: Bill Bell always demanded full power and no meddling from the exec producer/network when it came to writing. I really doubt

that is the case nowadays except on B&B .

Isn't Latham both headwriter and producer? I'd think she's going to be at Y and R for awhile. It took years and a very high level of viewer dissatisfaction to get Higley fired. With LML being the double threat, she is that much more secure. Worse, Latham has been slowly turning over the writing/direction/production staff - they are now loyal to her.

It does take arrogance to admit you never watch the show you write. You may not watch it every day, but it is NOT something you should ever say in an interview. To admit you didn't even watch any after you took the writing position is very arrogant and Higley showed her arrogance in spades so many times, she should have been an ABC public relations nightmare. LML does have that level of arrogance, and it will turn off some longtime fans - but Y and R has a long way to go before losing the number one spot (almost 1.5 points).

For several reasons actually...to see if the actor/actress is playing the material right...to see what sounds good coming out of the actors/character's mouth and what doesn't, to see how things were edited and if anything you did write(whether it be a script, breakdown, or otherwise) was removed due to time constraints or last-minute interference by the production company or the network.

There are just LOTS of reasons why writers need to, not only watch their own work, but observe what is going on other soaps too. Maybe we wouldn't have the amount of repetition that we do in daytime if the writers would step up and be competitive.

These days, it's all about "take what you can get."

Seeing how something plays out on screen is invaluable, it can give you ideas about characters you never thought of. The way actors interact is a source of inspiration too. How could someone who doesn't watch their show write to the strengths of a Tony Geary or Elizabeth Hubbard - people who ad lib to high heaven anyway? And what a better way to know what's NOT WORKING. You can't just rely on what's written down and expect it to be the way you imagined it. It's all different when it's acted out on a set in costumes. LML is not only the head writer. If she doesn't even watch Y&R as it's executive producer, security should drag her off the lot pronto.

I think if you compare the headwriter role with equivalents in other industries, you can see why they should be watching and it comes down to ultimate responsibility. No ad exec would put together the key components of a major campaign and not bother looking at the finished product. These people should be protecting their reputations.

And let's be honest, when the episodes are parred down minus commercials and titles/credits, they run to little more than 35 minutes (18 for B&B). It's really not much to ask.

    • I wrote my previous post about Dante being on a 3-day rant while I was at the 30-minute mark of the show. By the end, Dante was back to being reasonable and kind and understanding of everyone and everything. OK, I get it. We all knew that sooner or later we'd get the wise Dante. The mistake was showing him berate Jason IN THE SAME EPISODE and imply he's a lousy father.
    • I think Dante has a larger GH fanbase than both Ava and Nina character wise.  Both CW and MW have a built in fanbase outside GH which isn't really indictive of the characters, IMO.
    • Just this fan's opinion but I have said these writers are the most plot opportunistic maybe ever! They will have any character say just about anything if it advances whatever plot point they have in their minds atm. I think if Dante's POV right now was defensible people would be running it up the flag pole. The fanbase thing you're describing to me it just means they're going to continue to like their fave no matter what. 
    • I think the difference between the head writer change at Days vs GH is that the day to day episode quality at GH was still lacking while the day to day episode quality has improved. And now that there appears to be some depth to the episode content... the limitations of some of the performers on Days is more apparent (i.e. Leo, Alex, Sophia, Cat). However, Rome wasn't built/rebuilt in a day so I'm waiting to see how things are in three to four months once some of the threads/stories from Ron's era are tied up/resolved.. and Ford/Cwikly's long term content kicks off
    • That would be me. hehe. Keeping track of who I liked better and how it informed what would happen from episode to episode. 
    • Hey, Mike Manning, hey!!! That shirt and those slacks are working today. lol.   Nice to have this Vanessa/Nicole scene.    Look at Kat vs Eva as a cliffhanger.   I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT!!! I KNEW SILK PRESS SHEILA WOULD SHOW UP AT NICOLE'S AT SOME POINT!!!      Another trio of cliffhangers (including Dani vs Ted...another combo today)! Friday cliffhangers indeed!!!

      And Ron sort of did like a half-assed rewrite to bring them together. Apparently, Stephanie had never met Alex until 2022, even though she already knew Sonny, Joe and Vic 
    • Friday Thoughts:    June and Hayley are going to turn out to be related, or else why the casting on June's character if not for that.  Their voices and mannerisms are similar and Marquita had mentioned in an interview that we would be finding out more about Hayley's backstory.   Tomas/Eva/Kat is for sure going to be moving full steam ahead.. and I can't wait

      Dani/Bill = yawn    Bill/Smitty = Interest reeved up and we all know that means the secret involving Martin/Smitty/Anita is kicking into high gear for May sweeps. Vanessa/Nicole = A satisfying friendship scene.. and Nicole's statement about Vanessa's outside interests.. I did not see that coming Nicole/Andre = I noticed that Andre volunteered knowing about the affair, but managed to withhold the nugget of information where he had convinced Ted not to confess to Nicole. Dani/Ted = This perked my interest Nicole/Silk Press Sheila = A great way to end a Friday episode.  Sometimes grandma's soaps shouldn't be discarded, but followed. Martin/Smitty = Kat is right that Smitty is too good for Martin.. and Martin did act as though he missed his afternoon nap. Ashley/Derek = Unpopular opinion.. I actually kind of missed them.   I view their scenes as a great way to kickstart a drinking game... take a shot anytime you wonder to yourself what is the point to their characters and/or either one of them says something cringey.  You'll be guaranteed to be buzzing by the end of the episode Previews for next week: Looks like Nicole has found out about Dani/Andre's FWB set up? Kat vs Silk Press Sheila looks promising.      
    • GH isn't that character-driven a show in recent decades. I think reaction depends on whether the character has a passionate fanbase. A character like Ava always has people who will defend her and back her up, as does a character like Nina (when they used to write for Nina, anyway). Dante doesn't.
    • Go 'head, Martin!! GATHER.   Oh my goodness!!! Now we are getting Bill/Smitty. The combos today.
