I totally agree Always! Its so true. During December-April we saw major changes! Many of the changes were because of Alden! It totally made a 180 degree change!

After the Greg storyline many things were changed! Balance were better and the storyliesn were better.

While December-January was still clearly McT influenced material, lets not kid ourselves here, I did feel the show changed slightly. Certainly not as much as it did in April as R alluded too but I felt a change. The overall storylines were still terrible, but we had conversations that actually seemed realistic.... between the characters. I distinctly remember a Ryan and Jonathan scene following Erin's death that seemed to real..... that actually made you feel sorry for them and were like oh my god how awful for this to happen to them. I don't know what Alden was doing, if all she was doing was editing scripts... than I'd say that was an Alden influenced thing.

The show quickly however went to hell again towards the end of January.... the week Krystal revealed all to Adam is when I first started to notice a slight shift, and week after week it became more evident. The weeks that ensued were obviously chalk full of McT rewrites and I am convinced that was all Alden.

That was the January 8 episode that made me notice Joanna Cohen (the one Andy referred to in his argument). The woman writes eloquent speeches and the Ryan speech about grieving for Erin was one of them, another of her stand outs were the beautiful speeches delievered by Kendall and Zach during the climax of the Satin Slayer in the beginning of March.

Anyway, sixteen arguments going on at once :P so, back to the current one.

I think what happened with Megan's December work was what usually happens with her -- SHE GOT LUCKY. That's all. It was "balanced" and featured more characters only because the Budget Cut Killer Satin Slayer was attacking/killing off everybody. The vise became a deceptive virtue. It wasn't intentional, nor do I believe she was stepping her game up. Because, as you said Adam, it was all shot to hell in a matter of weeks.

Oh -- and Beall Sucks Ass! (Random ALB Hate moment... Carry on.)

I have no clue where I stand with Beall--but I agree. McT (and I know I'm gonna regret sayign this) has done, in ALL her tenures some really great, briefer and briefer little periods and some absoluytely stunning individual episodes (which is one reason her periods at soaps usually get Emmy noms...) I didn't really feel Dec/Jan was any more out of the norm than her usual par for course--except maybe that the late Fall had been SOO wretched and empty of direction that anything would be an improvement... (In the late Fall there were many posters on here wondering if McT was even still around because while the show was awful it didn't even reek of her normal probs)

Well, first of all, that's not fair. That was because of that rumor last summer that she and Jeff Beldner were being promoted to interim head writers and Megan had been fired. So after a horrible Spring 2006 of McTavish, ANYTHING would've been a welcomed relief. So, thinking that the rumor was true, I wanted it.

But then, the rumor proved to be just that. A rumor. So that was the end of that.

As for what changed, I noticed she was pushing the same agenda Megan was pushing.

But enough about this. You'll read more about it in my latest blog entry. :P

    • I have to check out his Bela Garody on Search for tomorrow. He was one of the main reasons EON worked for me when I was watching. Truly unforgettable presence. Handsome in the most perverse and sinister way. They don't make faces like that anymore.
    • My favorite moment in SOAPDISH is the HW taking the star to the mall in NJ to improve "morale"!!
    • Oh no! The shoulder pads! I will mourn them when they're gone. Please tell me the head pieces and hats remained!?
    • Shout! TV has now added season 26. Not sure what the reasoning for that was, but maybe it was the one that was ready to go...
    • It's AWFULLY hard to tell.  But out of the (approximately) 16 weeks so far in 2025, Bryton has only had about 12 episodes.  That's significantly less than 1 per week.  Once the actor drops down to less than 1 per week for an extended period of time (such as a 39-week cycle), I start thinking there's no contract in place for him or her.  Surely these folks aren't tying themselves down to a show for a guarantee of 1 or 2 episodes a month.   If I counted right, Bryton has had 21 episodes in the past 24 weeks.  They're either (a) about to kick into high-gear & work his ass off to meet his minimum guaranteed appearances, or else (b) he ain't got a contract that guarantees him squat.
    • These contract guarantees of 1 ep per month are ridiculous. How can you even have a story if your character apprars 4-5 times in a month? It's sad.
    • It's hard to tell with some actors appearing on average 4 times in a month whether they're recurring or just on a low guarantee contract. Someone recurring  like Beth Maitland can be used a lot for several months then disappear. So the monthly tallies aren't enough to go by.
    • Of the so-called "contract" cast members, I'd venture to say these are recurring: Bryton James, Camryn Grimes, and (possibly) Michael Graziadei.  I've suspected since 2018 that Kate Linder and Christian LeBlanc are recurring.  And I believe we all know Miss Ordway is, because she said so. lol.
    • Dante blaming Gio instead of his dweeb son and the other dweeb was just ridiculous. Gio's paternity story is going in circles with no reveal. I've already started fast forwarding Drew and his stupid ho Willow's story. Kristina's story is beyond dumb with no great payoff.
    • Sarah (with the English accent) isn't just some random character.  Sarah was once the housekeeper for Eliot Dorn and Margo Huntington.  One of the following 2 scenarios happened a few months ago: (1):  One night, while Margo wasn't at home, and while Oscar the Doorman wasn't at his post, a burglar sneaked into the private elevator, rode up to the penthouse, stole several thousand dollars worth of Margo's valuable diamonds and pearls, and tied-up Eliot Dorn and Sarah the Housekeeper, ensuring that Eliot and Sarah couldn't pursue the burglar back down to the lobby or phone the police to apprehend the burglar. OR --  (2): Eliot Dorn was SLEEPING with Sarah the Housekeeper, and the two of them conspired to steal Margo's jewelry and went on a lavish spending spree and then tied THEMSELVES up to make it look as though a burglary had occurred in the penthouse. Margo Dorn currently believes Scenario #1 occurred, and she's rather annoyed that the "incompetent police" haven't located her stolen jewels yet.  Eliot and Sarah know that Scenario #2 actually occurred.  When Sarah stopped by the Unicorn and saw Eliot kissing Raven Swift, Sarah snidely said, "Oh! This must be Mrs. Dorn!  Nice to meet you, Mrs. Dorn!" Sarah knew good & damn well Raven isn't "Mrs. Dorn" because Sarah worked for Margo Dorn on a daily basis for many months.  That was Sarah's not-so-subtle way of announcing, "I'll be paying a visit to District Attorney Logan Swift and letting him know that his wife is sleeping with you, and I'll be paying a visit to WMON to let Margo Huntington know that you're sleeping with Mrs. Swift!"  lol.
