AMC: Do you think the new head writers will turn AMC around?

Yep. People are blaming them for canceling Port Charles. It was the network that drove those super natural arcs. And besides, P.C's ratings were in the toilet (as they always were) the minute B&E got there.

^We already know Frons will dictate his vision to them and they'll have to follow anyway. Network interference will never stop. Writers might be able to fight for a certain storyline under Frons, but you better believe that storyline will be filtered through the lens of Frons. Not only that, B&E are EXTREMELY plot-driven in their storylines, even on GL when CBS wasn't interfering much in their first year. That's a stark contrast from when they were breakdown writers for Nancy Curlee, Stephen Demorest, and Lorraine Broderick on the earlier GL writing team, which was heavily character-driven.

Apparently, in her latest hotline message, Robin Strasser confirmed Brian Frons has final storyline approval at OLTL. I'm sure it's the same at AMC & GH.

... not that we didn't already know this, but at least they're not pretending otherwise anymore.

Well, Brian Frons is an Ass. He really only cares about General Hospital. He also re-hired McTavish! I hate him! really Brian Frons is like crap. He is not a good head of daytime! He sucks ass!

QUALITY is a subjective term. A value judgment of what is good and what is not. Brian's vision.

Brian Frons will not, in any sense, let B&E's AMC pass by his desk without looking at it but as Jay suggests, I believe he will allow them a certain amount of time on their own to bring up ratings. If they don't, they are his puppets.

And ratings are not necessarily a reflection of overall "quality" even in a broad sense. Frons wants ratings/demos. He would, in fact he has, rejected what traditional soap viewers would call "quality" soap in favour of cheap quick thrills for sweeps.

Well this is apparently why Kay Alden did not get the job. She apparently submitted a bible and Frons wanted to do some edits to add some plot driven gimmicks and stunts for as you say sweeps but Kay being the fine writer she is with integrity said no way. I think B&E will have a certain amount of time... as I truly believe McTavish did because July 2003-December 2004 was a great period for this show (while some will disagree) it was after the GBS was finished that things started to really get mucked up and we got the summer of Rylee. I have no doubt Frons was instrumental in that because he pushed so damn hard for them in the first place. Sure McT still wrote that crap, but Frons was pushing it like no tomorrow I am sure.

I agree. As it was with Higley at OLTL up until her controversial but ratings-grabber Daniel Coulson story, McT had her grace period and B&E will have theirs too, until Brian starts adding his own special seasoning to the recipe.

The thing is, earlier I said it was stagnant ratings that prompted his intervention but I'm not so sure of that. He's the type of manager who'd see AMC rise to #3 and then believe his increased supervision would bring it to #1.

    • Melissa Ordway announced she was moved to recurring back in November but is still credited with the contract cast members.
    • I think of Evan as a smarmy bast*rd. Maybe you'll like that description. You certainly have him pegged correctly since he is just a soldier following "Admiral" Iris's marching orders.
    • So far the only interest I've seen from Evan to Amanda has been listening to Iris's orders to go and seduce her.  So far he hasn't been successful... but who knows. Amanda is unbearable at times. Entitled, spoiled... idiotic. Iris... so blatantly manipulating her and Amanda takes the bait. But I guess... when she gets in trouble... she'll have a chance to learn. That's what makes these shows so interesting.    Oh, no, don't worry. You haven't ruined a thing. Evan has not been on my radar that much... he was not one of the characters I was caring particularly... so nothing much has been changed for me. I don't think he has the stuff to ruin Rachel's life. He's just a pretty guy that can follow orders. Iris on the other hand... is dangerous.

P.S Maybe Evan will surprise me. Who knows.
    • The show has gone back to 10/10 entertainment! I'm glad that I was right in feeling that what were experiencing were growing pains. I'm sure they are not over yet, but I'll know that we always comeback to quality drama. I think it's going to be a hell of ride (in a good way) from this moment on. BTG has that magic that not a lot of shows have. I'll update more... when I'm done catching up.
    • So very glad to hear this. Yesterday I suddenly thought; OMG, what about spoilers, have I just  ruined things for Maxim in getting carried away with interest in Evan, who was so well-written & well-acted. BTW, your fan review of this episode was a sight for eyes that had not seen one of these for a little bit too long, LOL!!!  Mitch is also fascinating to me but in his case it's because he was all in with Janice & her nefarious plan & then he did this turnabout we've mentioned & he basically got off scot-free.
    • It does seem cheap and lazy for this show to have just one family. Passions was heavily criticized but it was nicely structured with a total of four families.
    • I think it was definitely a surprising reveal in the storyline. I had a hard time appreciating Evan because I couldn't get behind his interest in Amanda. But that's because I never thought Sandra Ferguson made her a compelling character (although to give her credit she occasionally had decent emotional scenes with Mac or Rachel).
    • I'll even go further... I'll make her re-think BeLief and create a new patent. Brooke needs stuff to do. Anything other than beg or be in her panties. We need her to be creative. But sadly Bradley has a very low opinion of these characters. To him Brooke is nothing more than sex and scandal... or a pathetic doormat. Ridge is nothing more than a chauvinist pig that needs to pit women against each other to feel like A MAN and Steffy is nothing more than her father's guard-dog. I don't even want to open my mouth about Hope. She is such a fiasco in my opinion... I will not suffer if they kill her off. Bradley pooped on her character and now it's too late to fix it. Annika is great and I would hate to see her go, but slutty Hope was not her thing. The vibe was missing.
    • I've seen Jason interact with Mitch and annoy him. That's as far as I recall. I didn't even have a slight idea that Evan had a vendetta against Rachel... That came as a surprise to me. I thought Evan was Iris's dog and that's it. Now he's definitely more interesting.
    • Thanks for these. I can't recall -- did Evan's vendetta have any position on Mitch, or was it all about Rachel? @Maxim have you seen any Frames intreracting with Mitch in any way?
