Exactly... How do you go from Luke hating the guy (especially when he felt that Noah was standing them up by being a no-show to the station), to all of a sudden talking to Jade about "falling for another straight guy". How can you fall for him first off, if one, you never talk, two, you don't even show us scenes where Luke gets past his dislike for Noah, that transforms into a liking relationship, and you don't even actually have scenes where there is just Noah and Luke minus Maddie?

Everything they are doing for Luke is just an after thought, as if we are to assume that they got past their intial awkwardness and we are to just suddenly accept that they are close friends... In order to give us a good storyline for Luke falling in love, you actually have to sit down and ummm use the brain to think. Time is over for pulling magical storylines out of thin air for his character. This is about the third time Passante and crew have MESSED UP with Luke since he was initally given a storyline when Van Hansis came.

1. Messed up with the whole storyline for when Damien returned (sabatoged any good material in that)

2. Messed up with not truly having any resolution to the whole Kevin delimma

3. Messed up by not following through with the storyline where Luke has a hard time with classmates about his being gay

(I do recall that they had that on the table, but once again, they dropped it to focus on the latest crisis of WillGwen)

Everytime they say "We have a rich storyline for (Name your Character Here)...that's writing on the wall saying "We got a storyline

for (Name Your Character Here) but we're going to drop it at any given time if we see fit.

Great post....and how does Luke know Noah is straight if all he is seen doing is giving him goo goo eyes. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee.......Noah and Luke have not had one single alone conversation. Now Luke is upset because he has fallen for another straight guy...again...Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...GMAB! I agree with your #2 and #3 mess ups.....Kevin wasnt resolved at all...and they completely dropped the students reactions to Luke being gay. Luke mentioned he would have to deal with it during Raven Lake. And poof....the whole story was dropped....so many holes in his story.

Uhh I can....

Paul/Meg/Craig. Awesome storyline. Now with Paul being dead things can become interesting with Meg and Craig. Plus Meg and Lucinda can get into it over Worldwide.

Carly/Jack/Katie/Brad...enough said. This is simply a hot quad for the summer and I'm enjoying them so much. The actors and actresses have great chemistry wtih each other. Brad and Jack. Katie and Carly. Katie and Brad. And of course Carly and Jack. I'm loving this storyline and if were truly horrible the ratings would show that.

Gwen/Will/Cleo....twists and turns. Excellent plot. And it seems like the climax will be intense.

In short JP may have her faults but the stories shes writing now are excellent. Even Dusty and Emily are okay to watch. Although I don't care about Emiloon that much I find her more tolerable than I did a few months ago.

Have you taken a look at AMC...or even worse Passions? Numbers don't always equal quality.

ATWT is in the Top 5 of soaps right now. Emily has always been insecure and pathetic. What she did to Paul was a result of her insecurities and the pathetic way she goes thru life. Why blame the writer for taking it to the next step and showing just how unhinged shes become because of that?

There was nothing wrong with Emily shooting Paul. It was the most exciting stuff I've seen in Daytime in a while.

Unless you know the exact ending and the future of ATWT episodes thats your opinion. MY opinion is based on the spoilers for next week and what is going to happen between Jade and the others.

2nd its excellent because it started out as one thing and now its transformed into another. Like I've mentioned plenty of times in other threads and sections and as you probably know Jade wanted Cleo to take over Gwens life. I thought that this would actually happen. I was certain that Jade would go nuts and kidnap Gwen with Cleo.

So no "we" have not known Cleo was "nutso" since day 1. We've know shes STRANGE, WIERD, and has fugly teeth and hair.

Other than that can you actually says shes crazy because shes a lil eccentric? I honestly don't think so.

Thats what makes the story excellent to me. Now Cleo is friends with Gwen and Will but shes developed a crush on Will and now seems to be becoming crazy. She wasn't crazy before. Now she is.

The Cleo storyline bombed bigtime for me. I remember when Jean Passanante was at AMC, I tuned out bigtime. JP seems to love to shove newbies down your throat. I remember Laura on AMC and OMG was she hated. First she was in high school which made no sense since we saw her graduate and she was nothing like the previous actress. She was skipping school, doing ectasy and doing some sexy dance with Leo. It was beyond painful to watch. Also she killed Gillian to pimp the character. The one thing I remember about Jean's tenure was not only how boring it was but how isolated everyone was. She had Bianca come out of the closet and then swept it under a rug. I know Hogan had his issues but I loved how he made the show humorous, funny, fasted paced and bigger then life storylines. I really think ATWT has way more potential but Goutman loves Jean P.

I personally think that Will and Barbara do not know that there Brother and Son respectively is dead says it all. It has been a week and neither of them know a thing about it. Not to mention how many times can one character fall of a friggen cliff? zero originality at all. And why is poison the answer to everything on this show, how many times has Meg be poisoned or Craig been poisoned. Not many people care to watch the hooker and her porn star sister, thinking of which where did Susan go for 2 weeks after she found out about her kids? No follow up at all, just a happy Susan all of a sudden. Will and Gwen airtime hogs yet they never say or do anything new at all. If I have to hear Maddie blame Jade for something one more time, I think I will scream. Sorry but I don't find repeating storylines interesting. Also totally amazing to me how a business storyline with Craig/Lucinda turned into a Craig/Paul/Meg love triangle storyline.

Isn't it interesting how much Goutman can give his advice to wannabes during the lame InTurn competition, but none of that wisdom is being used to light a fire under his head writer's butt? Say what you will about Hogan, much of the time his approach was WORKING. Collaborating with someone like him for so long, how could Passanante let the ball drop and not at least continue in the spirit of what he was doing right? It really doesn't help matters that the Emmys don't reflect how dismal a show is all year, because multiple nominations for a few episodes just give the hacks encouragement. Luckily ATWT was shut out of the writing category this year, but you have to wonder if that signaled a change we haven't seen yet.

I've liked most of the writing around Carly coming back, working her way back into Parker's good graces, trying to set up her career again, and seeing how her split with Jack has affected the kids. I'm nervous, however, about the inevitable reunion story with Jack. Will it be convincing? Will they deal with the issues why they separated in the first place? (I'm not a big fan of them together.)

I'm also liking the Luke/Noah story and just want to see more of it. I don't agree that Luke developed a crush on Noah too quickly, or that they had to talk first. Most of the crushes I've had have been on people I don't talk to and can only admire from afar, after observing either their looks or their personality. Also, the show explained that Luke's initial exasperation with Noah was in part out of repressing the crush. I can totally see why Luke would think Noah is straight, since Noah just keeps talking to Maddie about old movies and borderline flirting with Maddie all the time.

I'm also liking that most of the Snyders are concerned about Meg right now, that discussion of that is affecting a bunch of other characters in the family, and it's not just Meg alone, or Meg and Holden, who have talked about it. About Barbara not knowing Paul is dead, that was Meg's deliberate choice not to tell her in order not to deliver an unnecessary blow to someone who's already lost so much, which makes sense to me until there was no chance of Paul being alive.

Having said these positives, I still hope Passanante is replaced with someone who can write better for the vets and for racially diverse characters. I also agree that she is a bit too repetitive, and that she has pet characters who she frontburners too much. Also, I think her writing is too dark.

Well, Passanante has worked with both Claire Labine and Agnes Nixon in the past, but nothing seemed to rub off on her. Jean as a solo head writer, is nothing but soap writing POISON.

Eh, I wasn't too big on Sheffer either, for every good story he had, there were three other stories that were horrid. Not to mention, Sheffer really started the trend of back-burning the vets, hell, in fact, Barbara was probably the only veteran character he wrote anything juicy and consistent for. ATWT's writing hasn't fully made sense and hasn't fully been balanced since Lorraine Broderick left in 99. She was the last writer who understood the show, even if she had some misses. Have you seen the 98 episode count for ATWT, that was posted a few weeks back? That was during Broderick's tenure and I swear I've never seen the show as balanced since.

At this point I would take Lorraine Broderick back although I didnt really like her writing of the show. The show was boring with her as well...lol...but at least not repetitive like Jean Pssanante.

    • 6-6   Hmmmm. Not my favorite of the week. However, it showed the strength of Jazmen's script writing against RC's breakdown. And he's good enough to rise above almost all of RC's tics. Though I guess the real question would be would I have caught 'Carl' author thing if I had not heard it mentioned here?

I felt the stories moved and while there were situations, they weren't the slapsticky I would expect from a RC breakdown. Well-done, Jazmen.   I guess I liked it on a second viewing. I'm just sorry that outside of Bill's subplot and Chelesa's love life C plot, it did not continue the majority of the stories that were going on this week. I still liked what I got so I guess it was worth it for potential flow interruption. Though I have to note that Eva and Kat have been dancing around each other all week and since it is a by-product of the SilkPress storyline, I love how the story can be used separate from the main part of that plot, which kept this episode with a thread attached to the main stories of this week.   It has been a minute since I saw a situation where a character has to get into someone's room and it seems plausible. Of course, Kat has to use her family name. That said...those scenes did not seem implausible at all, but that could be my industry experience showing. Meanwhile, Eva and Tomas continue to grow closer. But even I had to side-eye when he finally declared his interest for Kat. Because it seem like he had been working hard to give mixed signals to Eva and Kat. And NOW he's devoted to Kat? And I am smh at Kat thinking Eva is the one who ran Laura off the road now. Just le sigh. BUT keeps their rivalry going if she accuses Eva and it turns out to be false. Eva will be looking for the payback. And she will be justified.   I know I'm in the minority, but I enjoyed the Doug/Vanessa/Joey scenes. I've mentioned it before, but of all the B stories, it was the only one that was given enough room to grow and had a build to it. And you could cut the tension in that room with a knife. Everyone gave a good performance. You could see the distance between Doug and Vanessa. And for all that drama...there still was more to play with the other shoe dropping of Doug finding out Vanessa and Joey slept together. Just juicy. Even if the end goal apparently seems to be money laundering.   Lord...Bill wasn't really even out of the hospital for an episode without having to go back in again, was he? lol. Good to see his separate story progressing.    Same for Chelesa and her love life. I'm not sure if Naomi is right. That said, I do like the cliffhanger of Mystery Woman being Bill's doctor. Not to mention Kat with the evidence.
    • Speaking of 1986, YT recommended me some 1986 episodes revolving around Kyle/Reva/Maeve/Fletcher/Cain. What struck me most about the episodes is Zimmer seems at a loss. This does not feel like Reva at all. Was Kyle always such an a-hole? Why was the pairing so popular? He's so unlikeable, and Malloy's theatrical acting does not help matters. Jay Hammer is extremely charming as Fletcher--did they ever try Reva and Fletcher? The real star of these episodes is Leslie Denniston. When she tells Kyle she wants a divorce, it's a fantastic scene and Denniston is putting in some great work while the stuff around her is just weird and off-putting.
    • The Day Of The Jackal author Frederick Forsyth dies
    • 6-5   Case in point...lol.   Kat and Jacob can soooo have a spinoff. Just watching her being adamant that Eva is up to no-good while Jacob continues to try to play straight man to the craziness continued to be a hoot to watch. And the sad part is that Kat is on the right trail, just following the wrong clues. Or worse coming to the wrong conclusion. All because of her dislike for Eva.    Meanwhile, Eva continued to make inroads. I know I have said this since the start of the show, but I love how for the most part, the writers write the characters in gray. Not completely white. Not completely black. Most of the characters have moments where they resonate with the audience and then have moments where they are unlikeable. Like technically, Eva should be a pariah. I like that she knows this, understands this, and still shows remorse and still tries to work to get back the lost trust. It makes her so rootable. And played by a star is a bonus.

It is also what makes the rivalry between Eva and Kat so much fun to watch. Also played by a star. Neither one is perfect really, but they are oh so watchable and a nice by-product of the SilkPress storyline.    Same for Anita. I love the regal coldness TT has given to the role. The sense of ruthlessness beneath the beautiful face. And yeah it can be a turn-off. And it's been nice to see a softer side to her throughout this story of her and her bandmates. She is far from perfect. She...is also NOT a doormat so it was great to watch her versus her bandmates this episode.    I like the run-in between NuTed and Nicole. I'm getting used to NuTed. And Nicole's presence has been a little too light for my liking. I can only assume that is to build to the next Nicole vs Silk Press Sheila confrontation which rumor has it will be another good one.    Speaking of which...LAURA IS OUT OF THE HOSPITAL!!!! Praise it be!!! And I thought it was so adorable that Nicole, Kat, and Mona were on hand to welcome her back. I liked that Laura has an open mind toward Eva (unlike her feelings toward SilkPress). Another layer to add to the Eva vs Kat rivalry.
    • Victoria Principal clearly stacked her Dallas coins real good. In the grand scheme of things, she was smart to walk away from Dallas when she did.
    • When Robert Calhoun became EP I thought GL was finally hitting its stride after some pretty rough years. Unfortunately the ratings during Robert Calhoun's run did not reflect the quality of the show.
    • There was a five week break between the last Friday episode and the Thursday episodes which were the final four episodes. I have a feeling the final four episodes were refilmed to wrap up the storylines.
    • Yes, I forgot there was a gap between his exit from GL and his start at ATWT. This almost makes me want to cry. He really turned ATWT around (and good for them). It would have been great if someone had done the same for GL. Can't imagine who. The Dobsons were doing Santa Barbara at this point. I mainly blame Kobe. She may not have been the worst EP they ever had, but she almost totally destroyed the Bauers and decimated much of the rest of the cast, sometimes for egotistical reasons. That was a huge mistake and made it that much harder for the show to recover.
    • Douglas Marland began at As the World Turns in September 1985 but it took about a year for his run to show growth in the ratings. 1986 As the World Turns becomes CBS's #2 daytime drama after Y&R.
    • This is not at all surprising. Watching the recently uploaded episodes, the uneveness is SO apparent. Characters are changing at the drop of a hat. The stories are close to incoherent. It's a mess, and we're only up to May. What a fall from grace. An Emmy-winning show with good ratings and within a few short years hitting possible cancelation territory.  I'm surprised CBS and/or P&G didn't try to do SOMETHING to restore its former glory. Was Marland still at ATWT at this point?
