WoST: Recent Moves

I noticed, without warning, the message boards on the WoST website closed for good last weekend. It was all very abrupt. Does anyone know what went on? It's such a big change from two months ago, when the website was updated with great stuff and everything was running smoothly.

Do any WoST people post here? I apologize if this isn't the correct place to post this; I did a search and found previous WoST-related things were discussed here. I was wondering if anyone could give me an insight as to why the boards (and for that matter, the site) were just shuttered really fast. I'd ask Brian myself but I figure since he has lost interest in the site, he might have also lost interest in replying to e-mail for the site.

Brian is a member here, hopefully he may explain if he gets the chance. I've spoken with him beforehand, but I won't speak for him. Your guess is probably a part of the reason (on top of other things).

The last I read, it was already decided to close the site within a couple of years, so I guess you are wondering if that closure is accelerating? Don't know.

I wasn't following this too closely, but apparently nasty emails are a reason why the site is closing -- not worth the aggravation to deal with. You can see on this board, even, in a previous thread, somewhat hysterical posts about how bad it is that WOST requires payment -- and that is apparently just a taste of the nastiness that WOST has had to deal with. Maybe some of that nastiness made the WOST chatroom unmanageable as well.

Quite a sad outcome. They've done a lot of good in terms of spreading the history of soaps.

I hope all of those classic soap posters don't just disappear. Hopefully they flock to a new site, like Matt's soapoperahistory.com. WoST was a big site dedicated to classic soaps and their fans so it would be a shame to lose them.

I used to have a problem with the fact that he made it a pay-site, but over time, I think I've realized that he really had no choice. I never had a membership, but before the switch, I pretty much went there every single day. WoST is (or is it "was," now?) an amazing place to go to if you like soapy music and if you like to watch the openings. And of course, the bonus episodes (I remember when it was only one bonus episode every two weeks) are incredible and great to watch if you have a fast computer.

Thing is, a lot of the stuff on WoST is now on YouTube. Not everything, but a lot.

I too am a a Wost member (or should I say former now as well? ), known over there as dustin35713. I too am shocked by what has happened to Wost. I knew Brian was wanting to move on, becoming discontented with daytime, having a lack of time, competition with Youtube(which All My Shadows pointed out, who I remember from Wost from back in the day!) and no longer wanting to put up with as jfung79 mentioned nasty e-mails (the whole MPAA/AFTRA/Paypal lawsuit hoax last year was too much!) but I didn't think he would be so quick to shut down the whole site, especially the forums. Those forums were very unique with such a diverse group of individuals. There was a CBS insider, Geoffery Martin-Cyr, who even appeared on SoapTalk, Todd Strasser better known as Soapsbuff who wrote for both Search For Tomorrow and Guiding Light in the 80s, and of course [s.W.S.N.B.N.], among others.

I do hope we get a explanation for the hasty closure. I should say very very hasty. I last posted on Sunday afternoon and when I checked back on Monday morning the forums were gone!

RIP WOST

I read the emails that he received, because he put them on public display. While they were not nice, I felt that maybe he should have just ignored them and moved on. But that's me, and we're obviously different people with different reactions. But if someone's just going to go, "BRIAN UR AN [!@#$%^&*] LAWLZ!!!11" I wouldn't take that seriously, much less to heart. He seemed to use those e-mails as reasoning why he didn't want to deal with the website anymore, which sounded like a slap in the face to the people who really did like the website. It got to the point where I felt he was punishing the good users because some idiots went "UR AN [!@#$%^&*] LAWLZ." It obviously made him snap and I was flabbergasted it got to that level with him. And I can't say I agree with the way he aired out the e-mails like he did. I can understand he wanted to let people know what he was dealing with and why it was aggravating him, but multiple threads were started about it, all titled "Why WoST is Ending (Reason #4523549324590832)." By the time the third or fourth thread opened, I started to think about whether it was a sympathy ploy by him, so people would respond and go, "No, Brian, we love you! Don't do this!" I mean, we all liked and appreciated the website, even if we didn't say it six times a day. Toward the end it just got fishy with me.

Maybe it'll take even more than two years
    • Irna wasn't involved with ATWT at the time of Neil's death, was she? I'm imagining a situation where right after his latest doctor's appointment, he's killed.
    • The Cruise of Deception was the first thing that came to mind when I mentioned that Brady might take after that side of the family
    • We all knew that TT is busy so if she's off screen for a bit except for phone calls and/or visits.. then it is what is. Ashley was nicely used as support... which the writers should have been doing since day 1 so that viewers could understand why exactly she's on the show LOL Chelsea/Madison.... seems too good to be true... we shall see. Shanice as a PT... if it means more airtime.. I'm good.
    • Yeah, he's a mobster with Vanessa while his wife cozies up to mobsters as the worst mayor in America.
    • He's too busy in Maryland with a younger blonde woman.

    • The rumor Zimmer writes about sounds like something Paul Rauch would have told Zimmer about Jacqueline Courtney as a way to discredit Courtney as Rauch loved to do that sort of thing. Zimmer probably just retroactively fit it into her story. Zimmer does not have good sense of time in her memoir. Who knows?!!? Zimmer strikes me as someone who always has to be competing with women.  Zimmer and 1986: If I had no context and someone told me that someone in the 1986 scenes would win four Emmys, I would immediately pick Denniston. Granted, I've only watched about a week's worth, but my word, Zimmer just fades into the background even when she's the main player in the storyline. There's no life in her performances. It feels that Zimmer is unhappy and that she's letting it impact her acting.

Does not help these seasons are damn near thirty episodes. Twenty-two should've been their cut-off.
    • True. I did enjoy the episodes surrounding Greg's faux death, too. @Liberty City Agreed, it started pretty slow, but once Jill falls off the cliff, I was more invested for some reason. Yes, I genuinely enjoyed the episodes surrounding Greg's fake death. I agree, it began quite slowly, but once Jill fell off the cliff, I became much more invested for some reason. I guess bc more of the cast was working together.
    • Shouldn't Laura talk to Kevin first before agreeing to her brother Martin moving in with them? Her house is like a hotel for people she never sees -- like Lucky, who she's unaware of his latest departure as a man who runs away from everything. Meanwhile, Lucky is busy giving away his cabin to Isaiah, who we've barely seen him with.
