DAYS: You were raped? Eh, who cares?

Well, you're forgetting Kenny, in the soap world, a woman cannot rape a man. It's called "manipulating them into bed." <_< Whatever!

Yes, because if a woman "raped" a man, then he'd have to get aroused, and well, that means he's turned on.

Double standards in cases such as this are incredibly revolting and unacceptable.

Yes, and all of those things are forgotten and forgiven.

However, let a male rape a female and suddenly it's unforgivable? Double standards, damn it! LoL

EXACTLY!!

This is because the women is ALWAYS the victim no matter what.

Where were the "DAYS: You were raped? Eh Who Cares?" posts when Bo or Austin were raped!

Also its hard for me to have sympathy for Sami, she is one of my favorite characters on DAYS, but SHE HERSELF raped someone and didn't pay for it, and all that AFTER she had gone through the pain of being raped. My sympathy for her is limited at this point...I feel more bad for Lucas regarding this entire issue.

I have never seen a rapist, male or female, dealt with properly on a soap. Jack, Billie, Sami, Luke on GH, and now EJ--they all committed acts of rape and never suffered consequences from it. Jack was repentant and there was some frostiness between him and Kayla and anger from Steve, but (unless my memory has failed me) that was about it. Billie raped Bo, Hope was furious with her, and Bo DEFENDED HER. Sami's rape of Austin was never called that by anyone but fans, on the show she just "tricked" him into sleeping with her by drugging him and pretending to be Carrie. Rape on soaps is a plot device, nothing more, and that is part of the problem with daytime TV right now. They can't properly handle serious issues.

Of course EJ can be redeemed like the others.

But Hogan's trying to redeem him by being a hero and saving Sami from big bad Tony Dimera instead of redeeming him by dealing with the rape. He's not being punished for it. This is one of the reasons why I can't hop on the EJ/Sami bandwagon, even though they have awesome chemistry. It's just badly written by Hogan and Meg right now.

If Sami was my friend in real life, I wouldn't want her to fall in love with her rapist OR the man who framed her for a murder he committed sending her to death row/drove drunk and almost killed their child, but those are Sami's only options for a love life so it's hard for me to get my moral outrage up about this.

"I celebrate the chemistry, not the rape."

Ooh, you're using the motto. LOVE IT!

And I'm ROTFLMAO at your description of Sami's lovelife. It's so true!

Jack did face consequences for raping Kayla. He was the town pariah for 18 months after the crime and it was nearly 2 years before TPTB seriously pushed the character in a romance. As late as 1991 (the rape was in early 88), it was still a major issue and nearly destroyed his relationship with Jennifer. It's true that he escaped with a legal slap on the wrist but the writers didn't sweep the crime under the rug. And in *soap terms*, he was punished quite severely.

I'm not sure that the creator of the thread meant for this to be a discussion on who's the better man for Sami, but rather the fact that aside from the LUMI/EJAMI fan wars, they haven't dealt with the rape properly, and that's the main issue at hand.

What's up with Days creating these giant fanbase wars, anyway? JATE vs. J&M, CAUSTIN vs. LUMI, BROE vs. PHLOE, PHELLE vs. SHELLE, JOPE vs. J&M, the list goes on and on, LoL

That's how sandwiches get thrown at television sets, if I may appropriate an old HW quote.

Gross.

So, Sami is violated-- for the second time in her life, at that-- and everyone other than Lucas and a few peripheral characters (Celeste, Nick) finds out off screen. They get together at the Pub and discuss the fact that EJ may have fathered her baby with a collective "meh."

Not only that, but when they intreact with Sami, no one suggests counseling.

No one offers sympathy.

No one asks how she's doing.

No even considers pressing charges-- in fact, they moan about not having a witness to the OTHER major crime the perpetrator committed that night.

Gross.

All the writers had to do to keep EJ running free for a while longer was have Sami say "I can't bring myself to press charges after what happened with Alan. I can't go through the stress while I'm pregnant, and I don't want my teenager following this on the news." The others could reluctantly agree, especially since due to her past shenanigans, she might not be given much credibility by a judge if she had to testify.

But no.

She was raped, and it's a non-issue.

She was raped, and the reveal is off-screen.

She was raped, and it's all who's-the-daddy like she had a damn affair.

She was raped, and she's offering friendship to her rapist.

She was raped, and nobody cares-- not even her.

Gross.

I second that Applause!

Yep, the memory is definitely failing. In retrospect, it doesn't seem like Jack was made to suffer for such a long time, but it's probably because I wasn't a big Jack fan at the time. In fact, I had mostly forgotten about the rape until Steve and Kayla came back and I was trying to remember their story. However, years ago there was a character named Eric who was a rapist and now whenever I see him on another show I think "That's Eric the rapist from DAYS".

Now that I think about it, I guess Alan Harris, who raped Sami, also suffered a pretty severe consequence. :o

Yes all that and more. There are some problems.

Paging Sheri Anderson!!!!!!!!

Someone who knows what they're doing and knows the characters is needed to set some characters back on track. Tony Dimera isn't acting like Tony, EJ & Philip have been way over the top nasty, then there's pod Valley Girl Stephanie instead of a fabulous but eccentric original who was interesting but left town. This version is too silly to interest me at all. Oh, and then there's Willow....

We'll be rid of her very shortly :)

I just can't feel sorry for Sami when she's a rapist herself. This is a woman who drugged Austin and (I think) Brandon to sleep with them and it was swept under the rug. She keeps harping on the fact that she was raped and it's so unforgivable and EJ is such a monster, well guess what Sami, it's about time you looked in the mirror because you did the exact same thing he did. At least she was still given a choice, albeit blackmail, but she literally took Austin's choice away from him.

And yeah... Ejami do have great chem.
