Members AMCHistory
Ed Mallory was part of the big Valentine's Day exodous right?
Members Dr. Chip
Funny, the Bill/Laura/Mickey triangle was part of another "plan to save DAYS" . . . about 30 years ago! :-)
Members Matt
And save Days it did! If it weren't for Micky/Laura/Bill and the wonderful writing of Bill Bell, Days very well would've been cancelled in the late 1960s. It should also be noted that Ed Mallory has quite a few famous connections --- his ex-wife Joyce Bullifant (and mother of his son) was the former wife of James "Dan O" MacArthur from 'Hawaii 5-0". Bullifant was also the original choice to play Carol Brady on 'The Brady Bunch'. When Ed & Joyce divorced in 1974 (she left him), much was made about it in the soap press. She went on to marry Elizabeth Montgomery's ex-husband (and former of 'Bewitched') William Asher who later *adopted* Ed's son John Mallory. John Mallory Asher is currently married (although they've filed for divorce) from famed Playboy Playmate/ex-MTV Host/Actress Jenny McCarthy who is mother of John's son Evan. Ed later married Days co-star Suzanne Zenor who played Margo Anderman Horton, the wife of his on-screen son Mike Horton. Margo would die of leukemia when she was also written off the show in the above mentioned mass cast exodus.

Members PhoenixRising05
Wow..they say bad things come in threes. First, Lanna. Then, the Frances news. Now this? RIP Edward. You will be missed. He was great actor and this saddens me. It's been such a whirlwind week full of both good news and bad.

Members HJBJDJ
His ex-wife Joyce is probably best remembered as Marie Slaughter, Murray's wife from The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Sad news about Ed. It's been a rough few weeks for news on the "Horton" family. It sort of makes you realize just how long the show has been on the air. (42 Years) when so many the actors we remember fondly are in declining health and leaving us.
Members Matt
Thank you! I *knew* I was forgetting a "best known as" credit in there somewhere. I'm telling you, reading the old "news" columns in the old soap mags from the late 60s/early 70s can be a real eye opener. You think the behind the scenes stuff is hot now! Geez! I've got one about when Susan Flannery left Days (had 2 going away parties, one at Frances Reid's home, and then came back only to, eventually, leave again a short while later) and Ed is quoted as saying that losing Susan was worse than when his wife walked out on him. And I had no idea that Denise Alexander (ex-Susan Martin, Days; Lesley Webber, GH) was once *seriously* involved with David Hartman, later of GMA fame. And Leslie Charleson & David Birney were once *the* off-screen soap couple while on "Love is a Many Splendored Thing". I've got a early 1970s interview with Susan Lucci I may just have to transcribe....
