Daytime Emmy Nominations: Discussion

LoL! His birthmother on Y&R was also a crackwhore named Yolanda. Yo-Yo for short. SCANDALOUS!

Tell me, JSF... have you ever seen the delicious Victoria Rowell on Y&R?

I've seen Victoria, yeah.

And the funny thing is, I'm 75 percent sure I've seen Little Richie, I mean, Devon's mother. I seem to remember a scene of a crackwhore in the park with a grocery cart or something ... for some reason I remember that scene very vividly because it WAS so shocking and "scandalous," as you said. I'd never seen a crackwhore, or someone I assumed to be a crackwhore, in daytime. It reminded me of that HUGE revelation that Nicole was once a porn star on "Days." I'd never seen that before either and I had no idea how NBC let them get away with it, lol.

Pine Charles, I actually watched the Urkel dance last week on YouTube. Funny you should mention that. But being older now, that was SO stupid. I doubt the cool kids would really participate in that and act like it was so "cool." And how in the HELL did Urkel get those background singers to sing "Do the Urkel!" in between his raps? It was RECORDING, for God's sake! That was when TV expected you to have no brains I guess.

I'm not sure I like the random submission for the whole year, but I have no problem with it being say them having to submit 1 good episode and then 2 chosen randomly from the year. I think that would narrow things down.

I know in reality it will never happen but the only way things will ever truly change as far as block vote is for the Blue Ribbon Panel to be totally unknown too and picked randomly. They could even make it primetime chooses daytime and daytime chooses primetime, etc. There are many ways around it.

With any awards show politics is always going to come into play. Even the Oscars has so much politics to it.

I personally thought last years Primetime Nominees was the worst ever but many liked them. I personally do not like this process at all. I never have. Why should all shows be limited to only 2 pre-noms. Some shows don't even have 2 real strong pre-noms while another show might have had a greater year and had 3 pre-noms. So already performers are being left out of the final process that should be in there.

I feel they need a new system, but in the end the voting and judging is what needs to be changed the most.

I agree with every word... you make great points.

Like Shane, I love Erika Slezak. She didn't have the material this year, but she is great.

As far as ABC. They received a lot of nominees. Unfortunately they weren't the right nominees. Nancy Lee Grahn was better than every actress in that category.

I don't think Laura Wright did anything to deserve a nomination. Let me add, I adore her as Carly and think she is the best ever, but she did not deserve that nomination.

I'm glad Trevor St. John did not get nominated. He's Podd not Todd and he had one good day last year. So what? MEK deserved a nomination.

Bree Williamson had a great year, but if there was ever an overnominated individual, it was Bree Williamson. She had no business in the lead category. Who should have had the best supporting nomination instead of REG? Bree. But she was nominated in that category.

Genie Frances in one month gave a stronger performance that all four of her competitors combined did in the entire year.

Now on to NBC, who really got screwed. There is NO question that Alfonso (the character Hope) deserved a nomination for best actress. She had a better year that Jeanne Cooper (who deserved it last year), Laura Wright and Kim Zimmer.

OLTL did not deserve its best show nomination, and unlike others, I think Frons loves it because it allows him to keep his lapdog EP and writer. The way the voting goes, I believe that the brass at the network decide which of their babies gets the nomination. I suspect OLTL has a good chance at winning since it is the ABC soap in the category. CBS could split its vote.

And we know that voting is not based on quality. That is why the Daytime Emmys deserve no credit or no appreciation. It's like voting for high school cheerleader. It's based on popularity and certainly not ability.

I disagree 100% but AI is on

Color me confused. Laura Wright didn't get nominated per the posts in the beginning of this thread. Are they incorrect?

BW should have been in younger. I'd have put RS in supporting with HT. Her closet scene was mesmerizing. But she didn't make the pre nom list.

Greg put the other prenoms up against the noms and he had everyone beat Zimmer. I totally disagree with that. Many people don't like Zimmer but for each one of them there are at least 1 or 2 others who see what she does as great. I happen to be one of those. And I am not talking her over the top stuff but during the last half of 2006 she had some very good, very nuanced, very layered scenes that showed what a powerhouse of an actress she is.

Sorry Steve, but IMO, Zimmer doesn't do nuance. Any one of the pre-nominees I would have been happy for over her. Glad you saw my little joke on Zimmer though.

As far as I'm concerned............... Zimmer vs Rahmer= Rahmer

I don't like the random selection idea. It's unfair IMO.

That's because it's dumb. I've always liked NLG's idea- they pick a day out of a hat & EVERYONE submits their work on or closest following that date. Totally logical and your body of work would have to bring it, not just your best episode.

****finishes Jess's thought......"with the exception of Maura West"........****

Hmm, well she actually has 5 competitors. Lesli Kay was pretty good. So were Heather Tom & Gina T........but......

I'm so happy for Bold & Beautiful!!! I hope they actually win. I think Susan Flannery and Krisitian Alfonso were robbed. I also hope Lesi Kay wins too. And I'm really happy that Passions had five nominations in its last year on the air and kudos to James Stevenson.
