I am still watching but it's not the first thing I watch when I get home. I agree that there is very little of interest going on and even the stuff I find somewhat interesting is hit and miss. Compared to what it used to be, it's a mess.

If you are looking for a new show, I would suggest Days or GL if you want good writing. I would suggest GH if you want alot of action. I guess it depends on preference but those are the three I would suggest if you want to add a show right now.

If you are looking for plot-driven storylines, then yes, Y&R is the show for you. If you want to watch the character-driven storylines that Y&R has been famous for the past 33 years, then keep on moving.

You should really check out DAYS. It's the best it's been in years. Celebrate with the rest of us! :D

I would also recommend GL. I'm a new viewer and I'm glad I'm watching. It doesn't have the best stories going on right now, but the cast knocks the material out of the park every time. I would say they have the best cast ensemble

I second that Winterguy. It is consistently the show that I want to see everyday. I think it has lost a little bit of it's quality but I don't find any of the stories boring. Days has picked up quality but the stories are boring.

The 3 best shows on the air right now to me are Y&R, GL, and GH. They never bore me and always entertain. Days and ATWT are right there with them but both have so many boring periods lately. I can't say for any of the first 3.

The only big disappointments I have with Y&R is that VR is leaving and they deaged Philip. I can't do anything about VR leaving. The other I just have to learn to tolerate like Days screwed up ages for their characters and GL's too.

Y&R is not the show it once was but neither is AMC, ATWT, B&B, Days, GH, GL, OLTL, or Passions. It has a few problems like you said, but it is still a good show.

And to answer the original question. I answer it with a big fat

YES

    • It's been brought up that Empty Nest was a time slot hit. Here's Empty Nest schedule and seasonal rating in comparison to The Golden Girls. 1988/89: The Golden Girls Saturday 9 pm, 6th. Empty Nest Saturday 9:30 pm, 9th. 1989/90: The Golden Girls Saturday 9 pm, 6th. Empty Nest Saturday 9:30 pm, 9th. 1990/91: The Golden Girls Saturday 9 pm, 10th. Empty Nest Saturday 9:30 pm, 7th. 1991/92: The Golden Girls Saturday 8 pm, 30th (final season). Empty Nest Saturday 9 pm, 22nd.  1992/93: Saturday 9 pm, below the Top 30. 1993/94: Saturday 9 pm, below the Top 30. 1994/95: Saturday 8:30 pm then 8 pm, below the Top 30, and cancelled. Empty Nest 7 season run equaled the parent show The Golden Girls.
    • In an interesting turn of irony, when Somerset came onto the airwaves in 1970... it ran against Dark Shadows and beat it in the ratings fairly quickly.  Then when Edge of Night moves to ABC in December 1975 and put against Somerset, the slow ratings rise that Somerset was allegedly having in late 1975 is derailed. From reading the write ups of the final year, the show dropped the May/December romance.. which viewers enjoyed and was getting the show some good press... the original cast member was sidelined due to medical issues, and the show featured pure crime stories without any balance. I think the crime focus was an attempt to compete with EON.  However, people that were into crime stories/mysteries weren't going to tune into Somerset for their fix.. not when Edge of Night was known for that.. and that show was running on a high quality wise when the network switch occurred.

    • Erwin Nicholson's last episode as SFT ep was 11/21. Whitesell started 11/22/85. Erwin was on board from March 8, 1985 so less than 9 months. Whitesell lasts six months (approximately) before P&G moved him to AW for two years where he primarily worked with DePriest. Whitesell was replaced on Search by no daytime experience David Lawrence who closed out the show's last six months.

    • I assume in name only?  One Stormy Night wasn't exactly steamy.  If it's a literal throwback then Stephanie's writing about sexy times her own Uncle was having lol. Since I am going to surmise it's just a throwback to the name, Night Sins and Winter Heat both sound sexier.  Just saying.  I swear Jamey (and Ron) just google things and land on the first thing they like and decide it's a good throwback to history without watching it.
    • I usually don't want Tide placement in the middle of an intense sad scene, but this is an interesting point
