Northwestern University & Daytime Writers

There's something I've noticed which may or may not be worthy of comment, but I don't think I've ever seen it remarked upon before. Several of the most notable soap writers attended Northwestern University. I'm wondering if this is coincidence, or if it is tied in with the Midwestern base of Procter&Gamble (and Irna Phillips), or a reflection of the quality of the program, or what. I'm also wondering if people ever got onto writing staffs based in part on this school tie.

So far I have already noticed that Agnes Nixon, Richard and Carolyn Culliton, and Corinne Jacker attended Northwestern. I'm not sure if they all actually studied writing there though.

Are there others?

Is there any other one school that's associated with more soap headwriters? Is this a useless topic? :)

By the way, I go to UC Berkeley, so this is not me talking up my school or anything, hehe.

I think William J. Bell attended too.

I went there!

Heheh, the undergraduate writing program (not sure how many of those people went through it) takes itself pretty seriously as does the journalism school (consistently top three).

No, he attended De Paul and Michigan. Don't know what he studeied. I asked that question some time ago and no-one responded.

Great, which soap do you want to fix? ;)

Seriously, thanks for the info about the undergraduate writing program and the journalism school.

Megan McTavish went there too.

Well not everyone remembers what they learned in class...
