 And I have absolutely no problem with Carly and Jack being numbers 1 & 2.

Sigh...by next year, Roger Howarth will be at number one. Maura's heading for maternity leave, and Michael's appearances will never match Roger's.

And we haven't seen Officer Shanks in three years??? Damn it. LOL.

C'mon....Baby Rory/Billy/Johnny/CraigJr is like a prop. Like one of Henry's martinis.

What's sad about Nancy's appearances, is that she's mostly (probably) been talking to Katie. FOR THE PAST five years!!! (Except that Xmas when she reunited Carjack. LOL...I'll always bless her for that, btw.)

Yeah, I see Paul taking over #1 by next year b/c Carly and Jack are now pretty much supporting characters on this show. It'd be interesting to compare the numbers from 10 years ago and see what was happening then b/c then we could see what the airtime given to characters before Goutman took over.

I have a really bad memory b/c I don't even remember the major storylines from 5 years ago. The thing, though, is that if you look at some of the vets' numbers (not all of course), they actually seemed to have gotten a lot more airtime 5 years ago than they do now.

Bob Hughes was on 79 times one year? When was this? It must have been the year they had the Dr. Death, Rick Decker storyline b/c Susan was on 91 times that year (!!). Of course, throughout half that storyline, wasn't Bob in a coma??

2002 was the year that started off with the Spa Story, which explains Jack's 180 appearances, since he was on almost every single day saying "Rose, Emily and Carly are missing..." while they and Hal were kidnapped.

Bob's 79 appearances are in 2003, which must have been the Decker story.

James didn't appear at all last year? Sigh...that's part of what's wrong with Paul's story.

Okay, that's what I thought. I noticed that 2002 was the year Jake died. And I remembered some of the other storylines that were happening too.

Yeah, Jack was Super-Cop during that storyline. Didn't he go all the way to Switzerland to save Rose? And then he saved Carly. I don't remember how Emily was saved. Didn't she get shipped home in a crate from Singapore (or wherever it was that James and Barbara had her?) For some reason, I think that's what happened, but I could be wrong.

Well, basically Craig is the new James, which is really sad b/c it doesn't make sense why Paul is going over to the "dark side" b/c of Craig, now does it??

No, Jack didn't go to Belguim to get Rose, he did later follow leads to Switzerland where he found that old lady's body. James did ship Emily around in a crate, Babs stabbed James to save her. Of course, James wasn't dead. LOL. I'm not exactly sure how Emily arrived back in Oakdale without her passport. LOL.

Honestly, Paul has many reasons to go "dark"....TIIC just can't pick ONE and stick with it. You'd think Craig would be easy to outwit after James. That's for sure.

jhc2010, thanks so much for posting ATWT's 2002-2005 episode count.

What exactly constitutes as an "episode count"? There have been at least 2 times late last year in which Emily O'Brien appeared on Y&R, but did not speak a single word, or was not part of the show's plot development. She was just shown in the background. It was clear (or least to those who THINK critically) that it WAS O'Brien in the background. Any type of apperance on a show should be counted towards an actors total count.

ATWT (along with AMC) has had a problem with balance since 2000 when Hogan Sheffer became HW. The year 2002, 2003 & 2004 are telling signs are TPTB's lack of concern for other talented actors. I love Maura West & Carly Tenney, but no actor on any show should surpassed 800 episode count in a 5 year span. Paul Ryan, Katie Peretti Kasnoff, Mike Kasnoff, among others, have been on way too much. Pay close attention to the 2005 count.

It seems that when Sheffer quit, many of his "non-favorites" increased significantly over their 2004 counts. It's disappointing that Jake McKinnon only appeared in 53 eps. So much for Procter & Gamble Productions trying to incorporate bits of AW into ATWT. Marley appeared in less than 10 eps! Whatever happened to the great Donna Love (played by Anna Stuart)!?

Landon has only been on for 2 years, yet, she has surpassed far better actors than her: Holmes, Hastings, Hays, Masters & Fulton, just to name a few.

What's with the love for A. Chando? 197 eps for a poorly-written TEEN character in poorly-written storylines played by a talentless actress!? She's ahead of Widdoes, M.B. Evans & Wagner! Evans was wasted on ATWT.

A baby appearing 120 times, yet the wonderfully entertaining Cass Winthrop is barely given scraps to feed off of!? How can TPTB justify that!?

Lack of good balance on any show will lead to a decline in quality b/c it "forces" the writers to have the characters jump from one storyline to the next, and/or to be in poorly-written/executed storylines. And all for the sake of having an actor be on the show constantly. West appeared in an astonishgly high 806 eps, but has yet to win a Daytime Emmy. She's given material that does not push her over the egde. Another Carly/Jack breakup, anyone!? At this point, Carly & Jack should never re-marry!

The carelessness of SORASing on ATWT is horrendous! How on earth can one be older than a person they were born after!?

Iva, Caleb & Julie Snyder are basically dead. Where are all the non-white actors? After all, variety is the spice of life. <_<

Sheffer's departure as HW was a great time to re-introduce the good balance ATWT once had. But alas, PGP, Goutman & Passanante continued on with the destrucitve path. 2006 is by far ATWT's worst balanced year. I'm thinking 2007 will top it!

One of the many ways in which ATWT can improve on (and it's a lot of things, believe me, thanks to TPTB) is in the balance. Focus more attention on TALENTED actors; nurture them, challenge them, inspire them. Look at the way Greg Vaughn, Tyler Christopher, Ric Hearst, Laura Wright & Nancy Lee Grahn are being challenged on GH. Look at the way Peter Bergman, Sharon Case, Victoria Rowell & Michelle Stafford are being challenged on Y&R. When an actor is constantly challenged, it "forces" them to deeply concentrate on their acting abilities & to use everything within them to produce authentic & entertaining performances. Acting is about tapping into the wealth of resources one has within their mind, body & soul. It's about utilizing their 5 senses in a way that brings out the character they portray, to make their character alive. Who ever thought that Laura Wright was a great actress? Her days on GL were very good, but far from being great. For far too long, greatness on soaps has not been sought after on a constant basis. We all know that it can be achieved, and when it is, it's MEMORABLE! I cannot tell you how much I love remembering past eps of Y&R, GH & AW. If TPTB thought more often & more critically, ATWT would be far better than it was in 2006.
