ATWT: An article about Luke's storyline

Just thought I would share this article that is in the latest SID about there feelings about Luke's storyline

For Months, Luke and his struggle to accept his sexuality were front and center, but since both he and his mom came out (of the closet and a coma, respectively), that hot story's turned incredibly cold. Seeing as everyone in Oakdale seemed to accept the teen's controversial choice with minimum of fuss, it might just be time to let them put their money where their mouths are by giving Luke a boyfriend. At the very least, let the guy go on the occasional date instead of forcing him to sit on the sidelines talking about everyone else's love lives!

Uhhh, "choice?" Since when is being gay a choice? SID should've proof-read that one.

Luke's storyline got sidelined for more Jade lusting after Will. And now Lily's storyline which also seems to involve Jade and not Luke.

I'm thinking (hoping) that they meant his choice to come out.

I have a feeling they're gonna make Luke asexual, like how AMC made Bianca.

I think they meant choice to come out as well. I give SID props for mentioning this. I have an idea -- let's make Adam bi. What a hot triangle -- Luke/Jade/Adam. That will certainly get the World spinning!!! LOL.

Way too many Americans are opposed to these types of storylines, especially if it's a male character.

So they always drop it.

He's gay--we know--now put him in Siberia. That's how it goes.

I'm sure Luke will eventually be written off the show.

SAD :(

It's funny that big, primetime network shows like DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and BROTHERS & SISTERS can have gay male characters being intimate (kissing, having bedroom scenes), and yet there's no mass outrage. DAWSON'S CREEK did the gay teen plot years ago, as did DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION (which I know is Canadian, but it's on a U.S. teen cable network at the moment). Primetime is really ahead of daytime here. Let's not even start on cable (yeah, I know, apples and oranges...)

I'm not placing any bets on when Luke's going to get a boyfriend b/c, IMO, it's not going to happen. However, if it does happen, it's going to garner a lot of controversy and problems. I don't think ATWT is going to risk it, especially since its renewal is coming up this summer.

When Van's contract runs out, they'll probably ship Luke away.

Yeah the whole thing has really pissed me off and upset me....They dropped Luke hard and it sucks :(

I am unhappy right now. If Luke storyline doesn't pick up soon where it left off. I will be pissed and upset!

One, I knew Luke wouldn't have story once the initial shock of his sexuality came out. Two, I'm not really that impressed by VH's acting, so I'm not upset he's not getting story now. And everything in Lily's universe revolves around her, so it's not surprising once Lily accepted Luke, the "issue" was over and the story died.

I think it was a bad faith move on CBS' part to push Luke's story, knowing they'd never, in a million-billion years, give Luke a love life.

I am very disappointed with it too. There are so many ways they could go with this.

James (oakdalelover) is doing a good job with it in his blog. I can't remember right now if Dusty has done anything in awhile. He has been on the Lyla story so much and that is what is popping in my mind right now. And of course AMS is doing it wonderfully in her blog.

My blog of course is not based on ATWT, but I do have Van Hansis in my cast as a gay teen, and some other gay characters. I just wish TPTB would read the blogs and see how these stories should be done.

If soaps can't find ways to integrate diverse characters into their canvases, the whole genre is dead. Are we fooling ourselves to continue having hope for soaps? It seems everyone else is moving forward in some ways, and we're regressing...
