Really? I've seen OLTL on Soapnet and it is 100x worse than ATWT right now. ATWT on a bad day is still better than your average OLTL episode.

Haha - well yeah I wasn't saying OLTL was good - I just jumped over to see....and yeah it is still bad. There are just some things going on at ATWT right now that bore the hell outta me - but yes it is much better than OLTL at the moment.

Right now, my main problems with the show can be summed up with these characters:

1. Paul (whiny little [!@#$%^&*] who runs around tattling on everything Craig does, when he is no better)

2. Craig (annoying, selfish, lifeless)

3. Dusty (same as above; he is USING Johnny to cling to Jennifer's memory)

4. Lucy (the village idiot)

5. Meg (Paul's whore)

6. Mike (overemotional, oversensitive)

7. Katie (entitled slut)

8. Simon (and I thought his stay was just temporary...it's been damn near four months)

I swear, if these 8 characters were gone, I'd be so in love with the show. They can simply dig into ATWT history for characters in those age ranges to keep a generational balance. And not only that, but they could easily find people who have more history with the show. Annie Stewart's quads should be in their 20s now. Bring in two or three of them. Bring back Ellen and Allison so that the Stewart family can be restored. There has to be more than what we're seeing on TV now.

I get your point AMS. I gave up on seeing Ellen again long time ago. I forgot about the Stewart kids. If I forgot the writers for sure forgot. But if they bring back the kids they need to bring Annie back too. As for the 8 characters gone. Well 3 is better than none. :)

Totally Agree, that is the problem the show only focuses on 8-10 characters, and has for some time now, unfortunately it is the same 8-10 characters, how about for a change we have storyline's revolving around a new set of 8-10 characters that I would love.

BTW: I totally love your analysis of Lucy :D Because she is a total idiot

Exactly. And it's not just the characters I listed. There are others, such as Carly, Jack, Emily, Jade, Gwen, Will, etc, but I did not include them because I still enjoy them on ocassion. I loved Will/Gwen yesterday and today and Jade, I think she'll never do anything to make her hate her. But nevertheless, they still hog up much of the airtime, airtime that can be distributed evenly, or close to evenly, among the whole the cast. I mean, I'm not asking for Nancy Hughes to have a hot and heavy love affair every month. I just want her to be there as a support system for everyone else, like she's always been. I'd love it if she and someone like Maddie became friends.

But others like Lucinda, Lisa, and Susan, are long-known for their romantic adventures and are all three single right now. The storyline that Dusty is running on "The World of Oakdale" with Grant romancing the veteran ladies is EXACTLY the kinda stuff that I want to see on the actual show. It's a perfect example of what's missing.

The Grant story has been done on ATWT already. But I want the same thing. I think they need to somehow bring Lucinda, Lisa, Barbara and Kim into a storyline involving them all. It doesnt have to be romantic in nature. Just something dealing with their families. Something that hasnt been done before on daytime. Sometimes I wish I was writer of ATWT. But there is way too much emphasizes on the characters you mentioned. And now with Brad returning we will see MORE of Katie. I've grown tired of Katie. She needs a LONG vacation.

Stories on this show get too big and drag on for too long.

There's Craig is Satan, before it was the baby switch and before it was Cabot.

At the moment my fave SL is Lily's and the Jade/Adam aspect of the Oakdale Idol.

I [!@#$%^&*] about GH but at least they have multiple, totally different stories going on over there.

I'm tired of Paul, Craig, Meg, Dusty, Lucy, and Emily cluttering up my screen! Put this squad on the backburner for a while and give the vets something juicy! Bring back a long lost relative. Bring back Ben and give he and Jessica a storyline.

Today's episode:

The only part I absolutely LOVED was seeing Iris. Jen Landon, though I love her to death, was just acting weird today...literally.

Emily, please stay out of all the Craig/Dusty drama before you end up roadkill on some deserted highway!

Katie: It amazes me how one of the most devious, manipulative, comical, strong willed, hopeless romantic, couldn't-give-a-rat's-a.ss, corageous characters on the show has become such a waste. I want the old Katie back!

*Summons some men in white coats and points in Carly's direction*...Take her away!

I agree with everyone. The writers need to focus on other characters in Oakdale. Let's hope the writers are listening to us, fans. :)

This week has been much better, but I still am ready for a change. Hopefully CBS doesn't wait until ATWT is complete garbage before doing something.

I'm getting so sick of the same narrow character focus that we see all the time.

- What happened to Luke? Will he ever get a love interest...say Elwood? Both need a story and this would be a way to use them. Common sense would say to at least try this.

- Why do they keep making characters out-of-character psychos? Meg, Emily, Jade, now Katie, etc. are all being made psychos, then we are supposed to just accept them once the writers tell us they have changed, without showing them redeemed.

- Who are all these hypocrites running around town? Especially Dusty's sorry ass! If he and Paul are meant to be the heros of the show, we have trouble!

- WHY THE HELL CAN'T MARGO, TOM, BARBARA, LISA AND FRICKING LUCINDA GET STORIES?! Ugh!

ATWT was never a young show, it was always very multigenerational. Right now I'm watching episodes from the 80s and it is sparking my hatred of current ATWT. After seeing it at it's peak, it's hard to watch the current stuff.

I now understand long term viewers complaints.

And did I mention in my rant, that I want Luke to get a boyfriend :D or at least some kind of story soon, I can not believe this show is wasting the talented Van Hansis on just being Jade's sidekick, yes I love there little talks, but it is time for Luke to get a dang storyline enough of the talking cousins.

More ideas:

Like another poster stated I think, Give Lucinda, Bob, Kim, Lisa, Susan, and Barbara a new storyline just for them, They already have the workings of a Barbara story in Chaz go for it, I think they would be a great couple. As for the other vets I would think if this writer has any idea of how to write that she could easily come up with a story for them.

Go back to focusing on Family and Business, which is something this show used to be great at, yes some romance is good, and some Comedy is good, but this is a Drama, and from what I have been seeing there is no drama, some may call Craig drama, but I call it Comedy, seeing as it has all been done before.

Pretty much I could go on for hours with ideas, but I won't seeing as we will never see them.

I sure hope they don't wait until then, but they need to move fast because it is quickly becoming garbage, IMO they are writing themselves into a hole, with no way out, some of these storys should have been ended months ago, and yet they still go on and on. I think the biggest mistake this show made was first bringing back Simon, by doing that he has killed Carly for me and Katie is getting stranger by the day. And then they bring back Craig, who has done nothing for me except keep the boring repetitive crap of Emily, Dusty, Lucy, and the rest of the characters involved on my screen. Trust me the show would be much better right now if Craig and Simon had never returned.

If I recall one of the main reasons why Hunt Block was canned was because fans were sick of Craig, so why on earth bring back Craig and shove him down our throats again.

Excellent post Chris. I remember Luke mentioning he had to deal with everyone at school knowing he was gay. He mentioned it at Raven Lake. What happened to that story? Was it dropped? I am tired of him hanging around Jade.

If we are going to see the same 8 characters everday then change their storylines. We are getting the same repetitive storyline from them.

ATWT is not bad right now compared to other soaps but it could be much better. With the ratings being good I doubt writers will make changes.

And I am not looking forward to seeing Brad back in town.

See, I love it when Luke has talks with Jade. They're taking time (I hope) to build their friendship. Just two things turn me against it though:

1. The Snyders HATE Jade *ding* Jade really IS Rose's daughter and now the Snyders LOVE Jade. No way. Perfect way to use Lucinda right now would be to have her try to get Jade away from her family. Scheme to have her fall for Adam or Dallas or somebody. And Iris would be scheming to have Jade get with Will. And that would make an Iris/Lucinda rivalry which can then spill into something else.

2. GIVE LUKE SOMETHING ELSE TO DO! They have successfully made Luke the Nancy Hughes of the teen set. He's a modernized Nancy though. He's not a straight housewife. He's a gay rich boy. He doesn't make coffee and invite his contemporaries over to discuss their problems. No, he takes them to Java and the Lakeview. Adam's been here for a month and he's already got two romantic inklings going on! Give Luke a romantic storyline, plain and simple. His storyline from February up to June was so great. So, so great! Keep it going!
