Well I and many other fans think Y&R is still good. It is a matter of taste and personal preference. Not every story on the show is great, as it is on any show. But I still love it and look forward to seeing it. I think the quality is still great, and it deserves to be where it is at in the ratings.

And I still don't think Passions is great, and it will never be Masterpiece Theater. But that is what makes Passions what it is. It doesn't pretend to be that. When I watch Passions, I watch it for pure entertainment, and that is what it has been lately. I think the show is lots better than what it was during Vendetta and earlier this year. So I think it highly deserves the boost it got in the ratings.

I completely agree with you, KR. I've started watching Y&R during the summer and now, I just can't stand it.

Go DAYS! :D I'm so happy it went up about 400,000 viewers from the previous week and 218,000 more than last year. Pretty impressive, IMO. After all the stuff that just happened this week on DAYS and coming up next week, I think the ratings will go up another 2 points.

I still don't like the looks of daytime as a whole. Even with 2 shows picking up their viewership from last year - a change this week from when last week almost every show was down. At least we are not down over a million viewers. We are still down 892,000 viewers from this time last year.

The average HH rating for this time last year was 2.74. This year it is 2.6.

So overall we are down. I wish that would pick up - esp. viewers. The overall outlook for daytime soaps as a whole has not been good for several weeks now. The last time we showed an increase in viewers from this time last year was during July I think. I think that is when Rick did the totals and showed that we were up in viewers, but some pointed out that it was during that time last year that so many were without TV due to Hurricane Katrina.

Those numbers are fascinating. ABC is taking the biggest hit. OLTL's numbers are interesting in that they are taking the bigger hit over AMC. OL has appeared to be relatively stable in comparrison to AMC but those numbers show that it is taking a hit. I also love the fact that CBS is in positive numbers while ABC has the honor of the largest loss. Frons reaps what he sows. Exactly what is his plan to fix OL? Get rid of the few remaining things that work?

    • Was Blake the product of Roger raping Holly, or did that come after when they were a couple?
    • I really wish we could see that episode...absolutely, my memory could be faulty, it was a very long time ago. I'm not going to contradict what the actors said--there has to be a reason it made them so uncomfortable that they talked about it in the press and complained to TPTB. I think that was the first one where they made the point that they wanted to educate the audience about the subject.
    • I just did with GL and its made me very happy!

Oh yes, trying to get into any soap from scratch starting post-2010 would be hard. I prefer to go back to the good ol' days, before the decline.
    • Can we talk about how iconic the 1994 tornado was on AMC? I was scanning through old episodes last night and came across this episode. The tornado was epic and the storylines/aftermath were so good (Julia's scar/Noah!; Jenny/Ray/Nola/Jesse in heaven with Tad, etc).  For 1994, these special effects and budget for this big event were amazing. 10 out of 10!  The only thing missing is Erica!  I can't recall where Erica was at the time, but I really wish she had been involved in this storyline.

    • On the way to her own engagement party? I've read that the show had trouble getting the audience to sympathize with Rita, but...that seems bizarre. Maybe I can understand the issue with the censors, given that at the time, rape wasn't depicted the way it is now, and marital rape was even less acknowledged.  Wasn't Chris Brooks' rape one of the first honest stories on the subject? I just don't think I could get into a show I didn't have a working knowledge of. I know it's a different era, but I really tried to get into GH once Maura West joined, but it just never jelled.
    • Yes it was! My mom and I convinced my dad to get one. He was--how shall I put this?--on the thrifty side, but one day he came home with one as a surprise. To this day, I'm convinced it fell off a truck. (He knew people with "connections."

) BUT, we had our VCR and we could watch our soaps. That thing lasted forever! It was built like a tank. Even when we got new ones with more features, we kept that one.

Blasphemy!  (Haha, I get it.  But, you should try watching AMC! 80s-90s was so good.)
    • I thought about saying how I resented the fact that those two newbies were tripping up the Puppetmaster of all Puppetmasters, when the best others could do was a stalemate (or less...). But, well...*sigh*
    • I read years ago that both Zaslow and Lenore both complained that it came off as a seduction because of CBS censors, so Lenore asked if she could say, "you raped me" to leave no doubt with the audience, and that Zaslow insisted that Holly's rape played realistically
    • Wow it’s official, Gatwa is out… https://www.avclub.com/ncuti-gatwa-addresses-doctor-who-finale-statement DW fandom on Reddit is in a furor over how things went down and apparent last minute scrapping of the original ending. Also…Billie Piper again really?
