First post in almost two years.

Tina Fey as Sarah Palin. :)

Tina

I also loved the SNL Digital Short - I love Andy Samberg's musicals.

The rest of the skits weren't that funny. Phelps was kinda stiff. He wasn't as good as Peyton Manning or Tom Brady who were more loose.

Did they stay steady tho? Ent Weekly mentioned how the drop off after the first (nearly always political) skit has been far sharper than ever before for the show--dropping over 70% sometimes by the end. I have to admit we watched the first half or so at a party I was at on Saturday--but after Weekend Update no one wanted to continue watching and we turned it off (Kristen's impersonation of Suze O was, however, *brilliant* and not just cuz I had already had several drinks by then...)

Amy P is co-HW till she leaves when she has her baby--according to Ent Weekly tho the credits only list Seth. Tina of course writes the skits she's in which explains the big jump.

I thought the weekend update was really poor--tho I assume having Sarah Palin bobbing her head to a rap was the most innocuous thing they could do that she agreed to. And yeah nothing else stood out except I stand by thinkign Kristen was brilliant as Suze O--but that may just be a personal thing :P I felt bad for Brolin, an actor I like, because with Palin having a cameo, Baldwin havign a cameo, and Mark Wahlber spoofing his own complaint only a few days before about that sketch last week, Brolin was left with basically nothing to do

Hm...are you sure? I don't think that's right. I've never heard or read that Amy was Co-HW. If she was, why wouldn't she be listed in the credits?

Tina said that Seth Myers writes the skits she's in, though Tina of course has inputs.

Amy Poehler Says Goodbye to Saturday Night Live

By Tim Molloy

Amy Poehler said goodbye to Saturday Night Live in true Weekend Update-style, with a sincere and heartfelt message quickly interrupted by a gag at the expense of New York's blind governor.

"I did just want to take a moment to thank everybody," Poehler said at the end of Saturday's Update segment. "This is my last show. And it has been an amazing experience to be here. Being able to do over 140 shows with my friends and my family has been a dream come true, and from the bottom of my heart—"

At which point Fred Armisen, playing Gov. David Paterson, walked into the shot and stayed there.

Watch it here:

Amy's Goodye

Poehler also performed a final Bronx Beat sketch with SNL alum Maya Rudolph and host Hugh Laurie.

Poehler, a new mom with husband Will Arnett, now moves on to starring in an NBC sitcom from The Office executive producers Greg Daniels and Mike Schur.

Poehler's influence on the show has been deep: Poehler was one of the founders of the Upright Citizens Brigade, a comedy ensemble that became a Comedy Central series and a school. Several of its performers have joined Poehler on SNL, including Horatio Sanz, Bobby Moynihan, and Abby Elliot.

Will you miss Poehler on SNL? What were your favorite Poehler moments?

Justin Timberlake is always a fantastic host!

So many great jokes in this skit! Loved this one: ""Publicly they'll claim to be virgins but privately, he hit it."

Which leads to........... "Dick in a box" sequel......"Mother Lover"

They should win another win another Emmy for "Mother Lover"

I dont' know why anybody hasn't done one before (maybe it's too far in the past to find) but Saturday Night Live has been a Saturday night tradition in my family since it begand (long before i was born). It's starting it's 39th season tonight with all new cast members because several of the old ones left.

I started watching back in the 1980's. iut was a weekend so i didn't have a bedtime. I remember Church Chat and Dennis Miller doing the news. I've watched a lot of it ever since. it all depends on the guest. If it's a good guest, someone i know then i'll watch the whole thing, if not, i'll usually just watch up until the end of the "news" part. I especially love during election years going back to when Bill Clinton was played by Phil Hartmen.

Besides the history, i'm looking forward to how the new cast is going to do. Who's going to take over for Seth Meyers when he goes to Late Night, what will be the better guests this season.

    • Today's show was completely meh to me. -- I'm frustrated with the Articulettes story. I know it's early, but we've had countless conversations between Anita and Tracy, and we've learned nothing specific about what happened.       Yes, Sharon is "the angry one," but why would Anita agree to go on tour and talk to Sharon without even discussing those past problems with Anita? It makes no sense. -- We're supposed to feel bad for Chelsea and her unrequited love, but I still think it's a problem that no one's mentioning that she wanted to break up a marriage.      She spoke today about the "3-way relationship," but we never saw her invested in the guy in any way, shape, or form. She wanted the woman. She needs to get with someone who isn't damn married or in a relationship.  -- Another Hayley pregnancy? Already? I'm not crazy about the timing on this. Honestly, I wanted fireworks with the Hayley character and not watching her walk around with a big belly and then a stroller. -- Tomas is still painfully awkward, although I do like looking at him and I love his voice. I also think it's strange that he and Kat are having conversations that every other couple would have on their first or second meeting.      Haven't these two been seeing each other for a couple months? It's as if they know nothing about each other. -- I still dislike almost every fade to commercial, and it takes away from the scene we just saw. It's like putting a comma at the end of a sentence instead of a period -- these fades do not make a statement. It's clearly intentional, but I will never get on board with whatever it is they're doing.
    • Because, of course. Criminals gonna criminal together.
    • It's interesting that LIAMST got cancelled over LOL or SS , both of which rated lower. I guess other factors came into play.
    • Thank you! So this throws into doubt one of the Y&R's pre-emptions. Rest of my post isn't needed now we have the info   Ah and the puzzle solved, lol. Too quick
    • Based on the preemptions above, I think I have figured out the one wrong item, and learned a new piece of history in doing the 1973 sleuthing! All of the preemptions matched except for 4 shows (Love of Life, Search for Tomorrow, Young and the Restless and Gambit) which each had one MORE preemption than expected. Checking on Watergate from 10/3/73 (since all 4 of those shows have that date list as the common one between them), there was a bomb threat called into the Watergate committee, which made the morning session get called off shortly after 11AM, and then after a bomb search, they started the afternoon session an hour earlier at 1PM. So, based on that, I am removing 10/3/73 as a preemption date for those 4 shows. CBS looks like they wrapped up commentary quickly after 11AM and aired the 4 shows (Love of Life would be a partial episode). (Although Vanderbilt does say they had commentary during that time, that does not look to be the case).   # of Preemptions 10/1/73-10/26/73: All My Children...0                        Another World...3            MON 10/8/73 NBC 2-(448) NCLS Game                                      TUE 10/9/73 NBC 2-(507) & (507)-onward NLCS Game & ALCS Game                                      WED 10/10/73 NBC 2-(440) & (440)-onward NCLS Game & ALCS Game As the World Turns...1    WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate  Days of Our Lives...3      MON 10/8/73 NBC 2-(448) NCLS Game                                     TUE 10/9/73 NBC 2-(507) & (507)-onward NLCS Game & ALCS Game                                     WED 10/10/73 NBC 2-(440) & (440)-onward NCLS Game & ALCS Game Doctors...3                    MON 10/8/73 NBC 2-(448) NCLS Game                                     TUE 10/9/73 NBC 2-(507) & (507)-onward NLCS Game & ALCS Game                                     WED 10/10/73 NBC 2-(440) & (440)-onward NCLS Game & ALCS Game Edge of Night...1                  WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate  General Hospital...0                Guiding Light...1            WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate  Love of Life...2          THU 10/11/73 ALL 11-1158AM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference                             TUE 10/23/73 ALL 11-1204PM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference One Life to Live...0              Return to Peyton Place...4    MON 10/8/73 NBC 2-(448) NCLS Game                                            TUE 10/9/73 NBC 2-(507) & (507)-onward NLCS Game & ALCS Game                                            WED 10/10/73 NBC 2-(440) & (440)-onward NCLS Game & ALCS Game                                            THU 10/11/73 NBC 330-(onward) ALCS Game Search for Tomorrow...1      THU 10/25/73 ABC & CBS 12-1PM (NBC 12-1238PM) Secretary Kissinger Press Conference  Secret Storm...2         WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate                                   THU 10/11/73 CBS 3-430PM CBS Daytime 90: Tiger on a Chain Somerset...4                        MON 10/8/73 NBC 2-(448) NCLS Game                                            TUE 10/9/73 NBC 2-(507) & (507)-onward NLCS Game & ALCS Game                                             WED 10/10/73 NBC 2-(440) & (440)-onward NCLS Game & ALCS Game                                             THU 10/11/73 NBC 330-(onward) ALCS Game Young and the Restless...1      THU 10/25/73 ABC & CBS 12-1PM (NBC 12-1238PM) Secretary Kissinger Press Conference   Baffle...0 Brady Bunch...2     THU 10/11/73 ALL 11-1158AM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference                             TUE 10/23/73 ALL 11-1204PM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference Captain Kangaroo...0 Dinah's Place...0 Gambit...2              THU 10/11/73 ALL 11-1158AM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference                               TUE 10/23/73 ALL 11-1204PM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference Girl in My Life...0 Hollywood Squares...2  THU 10/11/73 ALL 11-1158AM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference                                    TUE 10/23/73 ALL 11-1204PM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference Jeopardy...1                  THU 10/25/73 ABC & CBS 12-1PM (NBC 12-1238PM) Secretary Kissinger Press Conference Joker's Wild...1             WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate  Let's Make a Deal...0 Love, American Style...0               Match Game '73...2            WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate                                          THU 10/11/73 CBS 3-430PM CBS Daytime 90: Tiger on a Chain Newlywed Game...0 Password...1                        THU 10/25/73 ABC & CBS 12-1PM (NBC 12-1238PM) Secretary Kissinger Press Conference Price Is Right...2                         WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate                                           THU 10/11/73 CBS 3-430PM CBS Daytime 90: Tiger on a Chain Split Second...1                     THU 10/25/73 ABC & CBS 12-1PM (NBC 12-1238PM) Secretary Kissinger Press Conference $10.000 Pyramid...1            WED 10/3/73 CBS 10AM-5PM: Watergate  Three on a Match...0 Who, What or Where Game...0 Wizard of Odds...2       THU 10/11/73 ALL 11-1158AM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference                                    TUE 10/23/73 ALL 11-1204PM: Eliot Richardson Press Conference
    • @Paul Raven said: 1976 Pt 3 <snip> Victor, her words hitting upon him like tidal waves, pleads, “Dorian, don’t say any more,” as .he moves to the sofa, where he collapses, suffering a massive stroke. I remember watching a great deal of these scenes in all of your 1976 Pt 3. Amazing! And you are at the all time classic part of Dorian scheming against Victor.  Dorian was totally unsympathetic then, a true villain.
    • DEATH BY DEMOGRAPHICS IS `MURDER' MOST CRUEL That episode totally shaded CBS. Considering how CBS treated Angela Lansbury after all she did for CBS primetime, I don't blame her for reacting the way she did.
    • Do yourself a favor, don't google her blog.
    • @Errol there seems to be a malfunction in quoting that started happening a week or two ago.  PersonA posts something.  PersonB quotes PersonA and replies.  Then PersonC tries to quote what PersonB had quoted, and the *result* is that the original thing that PersonA said, becomes quoted as if had been originally said by PersonB. For example - PaulRaven posted on prior page this  (Link to PaulRaven original post) Then I myself janea4old quoted PaulRaven and replied  (Link.to.janea4old.quote.of.Paul.Raven.and.reply) Then @j swift tried to cite my PaulRaven quote, But the result was that PaulRaven's words were attributed to me janea4old. That happened above (Link to misattribution) Screencap of the glitch with misattribution of Paul's words to me:

*** Sorry everyone, I don't want to derail this thread, just wanted to post what happened on the page where it happened so that Errol could see it in context. J_swift is not to blame.  My theory is that this is a messageboard technical glitch.  I've seen this happen several times with various posters on various threads over the past week or two.  Quoted quotes being misattributed, and it happens with experienced posters who usually don't err in this way.  So I think there's a technical glitch in nested quoting.
