Oh I agree, I hated really most of the characters brought on then, from Selena to the mob to Jessie to whatsherface Chele's frenemie, to Max, the dumb kid with no reason to be on the show. I hated how all the "kids," lived in the loft over "Millennium," (obviously a ploy to get the younger demo to watch a fantasy where young people have no adult interaction) and we had to spend Thanskgviing in that dumb club one year.

Yes..I think I remember a scene with Selena sprawled all over that breakfast counter in the Bauer kitchen with him walking in. I think it woulda been funny uptight Ed with a former prostitute and we all know he likes em a little chubby! Selena,"Lillian and Holly, I just want you to know if you bring your skinny assses around my man Im gonna hand em back to ya..okay?"

Patti was always a chunky monkey from the moment she came on the show. I just think Selena was defeated as she was tied to the mob storyline. When she first came on as Abby's cellmate she was living in the Bauers garage and hanging out with them but then she and Buzz started going out, etc. I actually don't think she was bad as Buzz's woman (Patti D looked like she could give as good as she got with Buzzard and could manhandle him right back) but thought it would be interesting if they paired her with a recast Ed..(I wonder if that was the original intent as whatshisface was playing Ed at that time.) I think her problem was indeed that she was getting too close to her fanbase on her website. They actually had people who called themselves "Suzz," fans (I kid you not..) and would send her and her kids presents and get mad if she didn't post more often. Then Patti got on MediaDomain and told one of the posters to "bite me," when they were critcizing Reva and Josh..and Zimmers hold on the show. As if Zimmer needed anyone to defend her, but Patti got in the fray and that was the kiss of death for her.

LOL..Marsha as bitchy as she is is much more interesting and sexy then "40 year old," Annie! Plus I do love the "Oakdale Disco," which is going on like a coke fueled 3 a.m. in Studio 54 when in actuallity its like 3 in the afternoon. Anybody who breezes into boring Ellen's tea time to insinuate her daughter is a tramp is fine by me. I think in addition to the reason of demos, Dan was killed off as Kim and he went through everything already. What else was there to do as a married couple? Chris and Nancy and David and Ellen were the tentpoles, and I am sure the fans would be in uproar if they cheated on each other. Ah the perils of late 70s supercouples! though with Kim they tried to have her do the same things with another man...(i.e. the bitchy ex wife causing trouble.) I do think its interesting that Bartholemu (the producer) felt that killing Dan and shuffling off Nancy and Chris would make the show younger, not new sets or direction or any energy at all.

Well, the Dobson's thought they were giving Dee a social relevant plot line with her screwing a guy to death, then becoming "frigid," from it and then the rape story. It just was weird that Annie and Dee met Brad like, in the spring, Dee started hanging out with John in the spring, and Annie marries Brad in the summer, and then Dee marries John in the fall, and then he rapes her. It moved too fast to get the viewer invested in the characters (much less that in the Spring Brad cheated Nancy and Chris out of money and the audience was suddenly supposed to care about him..) but still is like watching paint dry. As Pauline Kael said about watching soaps,...watching the Stewarts and their girls was like watching people submerged in water. From this alone I never understood why the Dobson's have the reputation they do..they were just not right for ATWT. What was with all the late 70s "frigid," heroines? We did see the Quads as kids during Nancy and Chris 50th anniversary.

I thought a great storyline would be for a relative of the housekeeper Ellen killed would come to town for revenge. Maybe the son would romance Dee or Annie or a daughter would move in with the Stewarts and start gas lighting Ellen. That seemed like a totally Marland storyline. Can anyone explain the murder storyline. I can't beleive that Ellen plotted to kill her.

Actually, the whole Stewart family at that time was a drag, from Dee and 40 year old Annie (lol) to David and Ellen..(they always looked like they had hemoroids to me..) to annoying Suzanne Davidson and her bad make up..the show kind of halted when they came on, and the Dobson's decided to showcase them over the Hughes family (I know Annie and Dee were heroines in their 20s but...) I acutally liked it when they had David and Ellen split up and they had Ellen act her age (i.e. she would be young enough to be Nancy's daughter, not another Grandma drinking coffee with her.) I always thought that storyline would have been juicier if they Wagner was still on the show at that time, showing disapproval over their split up especially if they brougth Don on to screw Ellen and Lisa went back to her bad girl ways and chased after David to spite Ellen....(wonder what her and Forsyth would have been together??)

Its weird, as I watch some scenes on You Tube, and Ehlers totally changed appearance and "style," in a few years. When I watch the scenes of her at the Bauer house after Abby leaves Rick (talk about a total change in body, MOL is smoking it up with his shirt off in that scene to a couple years later being a bowl of jello, also, I think when Abby left that was the last time Rick was entertaining, they should have kept her on and they would have been the nice normal couple in town) and granted I think Ehlers was preggers at the time but her face was fuller and her body looked more "normal," and she was pleasent and supportive in those scenes...years later it seems even if she had the same material she just came across as so sharp and unpleasant. I wonder if her personal problems became too much or she just needed to eat a damn cheesburger. I think it also had to do with Harley going from being Ms. Everywoman and not always winning, to being THE romantic heroine who no one could resist. Is too bad as Harley was the only one I could tolerate in that annoying freaking family. I wonder if she would have made a good Liza and playing a mean cold bitch would work for her (I think LW would make a great soap bitch but somehow she is alwys the romantic heroine..) Her best work in those last five years was playing Irna Phillips in the anniversary show.

I said it before...for being such a sometimes plain jane, and later turing into a sharp faced shrill actress (but with great abs...) Ehlers sure did score a lot of a** backstage. She must have been great at what she did..the first Mallet (HAAWT) second Mallet(hot but not AS hot as first) etc. The Cyrus dude looked like an exotic dancer but even if he wasnt gay was out of her league, but I have a feeling she was a gal that would somehow prevail. Gotta hand it to her. Concerning the backstage stuff, I don't get why Wheeler didn't put her foot down and say, "Sorry you crap where you eat, so now you have to deal with it, be a professional and film the scenes as written or you void your contract." I am assuming your talking about Ehler's alleged attempts at getting Bogue fired after he dumped her.

That discribed Wheeler's GL in a nutsell. It was like this weird theater group out in the woods filming stuff that only they liked. Wheeler wouldn't know chemistry if it hit her, she saw the Mallet actor with Bruno and thought they had great chemistry so she destorys' Harley (who was a bitch at that time anyway) by making her sleep with her sister's Chipendale dancer boyfriend. Not to mention the whole backstage shenanigans with the Mallet actor who screwed Ehlers dumped his wife, went back to her and then hooked up with Bruno and all their characters were invovled...weird. Believe it or not, and I thought I read it here, Wheeler was back in Peapack of all places with some GL actors saying she has a new "project," and getting the band back together! So they took a picture at that damn park pavillian where everyone went during the last year..talk about clueless.

Really? That would have been kind of interesting, especially since we knew the show was going to die soon. Rather an interesting experiment then a cheap boring piece of crap. Also, I will be the first to diss Zimmer chewing up all the scenery but she was amazingly good as Charita Bauer in the anniversary special. She brought her good humor and warmness to the part.

I forgot, how for all its really, really big problems, how entertaiing McLaiby could be. The Alex/Hawk scene is funny (though Bev's Alex sniffed at him and only used him for what she wanted...) and the Lillian/Ed/Nola scene is great and a long time coming for a lot of viewers (especially Nola's "The WRONG woman died!") I think both scenes personified the show at the time, while provided character motivation, the set up (everyone has food poisioning and in Cedars) was a big WTF of stupidity. The storyline fell apart after Brent was captured and McLaiby went on to try to shock everyone again.... Loved Aubrey Dollar but Mandy Bruno's casting was bad..she came off as so cute and perky and gosh darn it "Im a Cooper!" Where Dollar made her more wistful and spirited at the same time. Didnt help that the symbalant "S" Bruno had trouble with would drive me up a wall. I actually wouldnt have minded the "New GL" as I would have had a reason to stop watching it and it wouldnt trash the history and the show. It would be a new crap hour of cheap looking video I woudlnt bother with. Its not like she didnt change everything anyway, with the Cooper family being the bestest family in town and I knew I was in trouble with the first episode had the voice over of Harley "I am Harley Davidson Cooper and this is MY town!" Oh, how soon the monster Wheelie created with Gush would come back to bite her on the skinny ass! Branson was all kinds of hot as Shayne, which makes me feel like a perv that I would think Shayne was hot..(I wonder what he would have done as a recast Chris Hughes instead of the unimaginative way they went...) .lol, at Marty West screamingly gay Shayne.

ROTFL..I was just waiting for her to start and when I heard her ...I spit my coffee out. Damn the Mona Lisa was ugly. I loved the Sabrina story in that they touched on the past and Babs reaction is totally on spot..but really, "Oh I know my entire family is going to be at the Mona Lisa but I am upset with what is going on so I wont go but I got invited by Hal so lets just go to the same place and sit three tables away." And how could anyone eat on those small tables? I just wish Sabrina wasnt such a frowsy bore. Just what we needed another earnest Hughes. Still would have loved it if she was some cockney slut , giving Kim a reason to grab her pearls and giving Babs some nice insults. It would have also given Nancy something more to do..."No Kim and Bob, I got this, I know how to handle young slutty bitches."

LOL..this was pre-Marland when Lisa was kidnapped by whomever was running an illegal gambling thing on Diana's yacht. Is this the scene where the kidnapper says something like, "the only way I can do this without killing you is by gagging you lady!" I just remember poor Maggie and Cal I think tied together with a bomb strapped to their heads I can just imagine what Marland thought as he was watching this to prepare for his time there!

He would have been great to bring back to replace Ed as family patriarch. Though the actor was supposed to be kind of an ass, maybe he had changed at this point. But yes, he looked like he hadn't aged at all. I would love to have seen him and Alan go at it and paired him with Alex....(though I don't know if he and Marj would have worked well...they needed an icy Alex to get her pipes melted by a guy her age.)

Oh that summer..that stupid summer camp where the characters just wandered around. Oh, it was not only the camp but also that the lake at the camp had a mythical monster in it. You also had the jewels in the corner stone of India's castle she and Alan were trying to retrieve...(loved MKA and the Alan actor, no sex charge but a power charge that almost rivaled he and Bev's chemistry..) Also...you had the start of a weird...Vanessa, Billy, Roxie Shayne triangle...Maeve lying and saying her kid died (with Louie helping her..) and of course Reva still unaccountably in LURVE with controlling, nostril flaring Kyle...Oh, and that dumb blond magician guy convinging Alex of all people that he was Brandon's long lost son. He was in LURVE with Jesse, Beth's duller then dull cousin (she made Lucy Cooper interesting) and Jesse's mom had syphillis or something from her ex-husband. Jesse read the medical report, flipped out and ran out into the street (for what reason, no one knows..) and I think got hit by a car...(she unfortunatley lived.) I will say that Anderson when she came, did want to expand the Bauer and Reardon families by brining in younger members..but Long nixed that. It was a weird time.

LOL..I love that he was trailing "pink" smoke. Wow...Ellen Parker was skinny there...in her later years she kind of plumped up..which made her more Charita Bauer-ish...(which is not a bad thing in terms of the matriarch.) I remember the wretched Lacy Bauer..what a wierd storyline she and A-M were cousins. Her bro was going to be Frank but Pam Long wrote him as a Cooper when she created that wretched family...(Harley was good but the rest not so much..) I never understood why they woudl go to lengths to write him a new character as I never thought he was that hot and he was a terrible actor. Fletcher annoys the freak out of me everytime he opens his big mouth.

I didn't see him in that clip. I remember the recast Rick Ryan that I think the Dobsons brought on but were fired ...he was a muscle boy and a terrible actor and part of that wretched drug storyline (he was using Memorial to make crack or something..) I can't beleive that Marland didnt make more use of the character in his go around. All they had him do was be one of the guys in the Sabrina baby switch (good use of history) but unlike Marland, there were no repercusions especially since that was his cousin...(who just happened to look like his sister, that part of the Sabrina story was really, really stupid. )

Uggh, I agree, Van Fleet was indeed a store mannequin. I hated him as Ed..you could see him reading the cue cards. Gentry's return as Ed was good...I liked him. He had more of a strength then Simon had (and no fish lips) but you could tell Ed still had his demons. I really wish they would have written for him at that time, especially with Carmen and gang coming soon. I also wish they kept him as paterfamilias with isssues (with Ross playing the solid Mike Bauer role) and not scenery chewing Justin Deas and the wretched Buzz Cooper.

LOL..I always thought MH was hot in a difly kind of way (though back then they had no such term...) and yes this was his later years when he was "paunchy," which was funny as he looked like a normal guy...(and would never have been cast on a soap in the last 25 years.) Peter Simon, eh not so much there.

All I can say is "James in a black turtle neck...hmmmmmmm!" He could take me to his island and tell me all about his ridiculous evil schemes any day of the week. What the hell was the bow on Lisa? Did anyone ever telll Fulton she looked odd with the dark or red hair...and when Seirra walked in to the hospital cafe with her down I thought she was Nancy Hughes her hair and clothes were so dowdy.
