Okay, I did not know this about 1984 & this is very good news!!! Thanks for the heads up on that. One more year that what I see in my own files. I will have to start working on getting 1984 episodes.

What Are You Listening To?
Saw her live, in concert & after we were all stuck in traffic, waited 20 minutes not able to move but our car was right beside her car & she had an interior light one & was doing things & I watched her the whole time. Wonderful people watching experience!

GH: January 2025 Discussion Thread
I used to be a Frank cheerleader. That stopped, I guess, 2 years ago. The nickname for his taping style is "Fast & Furious". (It's not a compliment.) We know his "style" creates problems because we see them with our own two eyes each. We know he has a great deal of trouble letting anyone go. We know the cast is too big. Nathan Varni loves the big cast that they can rotate people in & out of. We know because Steve B said it in a podcast that Gary Tomlin praised the actors for working so fast that they got some godawful number of scenes/episodes done in a ridiculously short amount of time. Now, in our lifetime directors directing actors & acting is somehow an outdated idea. I still try to compliment when they do something right but most of the time I'm mad at my show for not being a helluva lot better than it is. That's even longer than Jill's last tenure, isn't it? I believe she set a record with 12 years EP at GH. Now, you're saying Frank has bested that? There's something to be said for shorter reigns! My suspicion is that Disney is pleased with him. For those of us who are diehard Carly fans this period has been both amazing & hard for us to watch. I think LW's Carly is showing the most character growth she ever has! Love that but it is at the expense of watching her hold herself in such tight restraint. She's so worried about Michael that she is risk-averse & we're not getting to see full-on Mamabear & she's not acting on her intuition & she is putting up with almost everyone! The only good Carly thing is that she is pretty free of having to prop, support, lie for, etc. Sonny! She & Jason have even disagreed which is weird. Show & character history is so important right now & I do love that.

ALL: Couple vs SUPER Couple?
During the 80s it seems to me DAYS was not only best at supercouples but took it too far & were supercouple crazy at the expense of other kinds of storylines & literally with too many power, supercouples, so, when being best turns & bites the hand that created it.

@Mona Kane Croft I wondered if we were working toward the concept of one person's actions giving permission to a group of persons to do similar things. I think Monty & Reilly are excellent examples of it & I think it is an accurate portrayal. Thanks for the additional background on that awful story! I always felt that the info of that woman from CBS pushing the idea & Rauch resisting the idea & not knowing any more detail, rang very hollow. Adding in KZ's perspective at the time fleshes it out nicely. GL didn't win any awards for it, did they?

Totally agree. Monty undoubtedly, without any question, did what was best for GH at that moment in time but it was not what was best for the genre, although if American businesses did not have copycatting in their organizational makeups, it would not be an issue. For it to be the dilemma it is requires both the tendency to copycat & a lone genius to be copied. In 1980 that was Gloria Monty. In 1995 that was James E. Reilly. The good & the bad, two sides to a coin.

Well, McTavish is one who has "going too far" in her bailiwick but she comes to it of her own stuff, not by copycatting. Lumina, I believe came from NBC & they were onto violence against women & other way out there things, I believe on their own, also not as Reilly copycats. I also don't think Hogan Sheffer was copycatting Reilly. The white robes/spa storyline came out of trying to solve the problem of having three leading ladies all showing very pregnant at the same time. Time Travel/Via Portrait was James Harmon Brown & Barbara Esensten (sp?) wasn't it? I think they, too, own their own outrageousness. I have no clue who wrote Labidizone. Have you seen the watch party of GL with Beverlee/Alexandra & Roger & Billy & Mindy where Nancy Curlee & Kimberly Simms were in the zoom?- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
