ABC: ‘All My Children’: Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos Developing Primetime Version
Maybe he got fired.

Primetime Soaps
The move + less tight writing (the stupid jewel plot comes to mind, plus I recall someone pointing out that Peyton went from actively plotting to overhearing plot points) + the fact that soaps repeated lousy and unlike Fox, the WB didn't have the money to order more than 22 episodes of their shows killed it.

Primetime Soaps
I don't think so, but it's been a while since I watched. Well, Cassie was added in the second season so I guess they sort of retroactively added her back in.

Primetime Soaps
That's very cool actually! I knew that there was supposed to be a fourth friend who was still living in New York (which eventually became became Cassie), but was dropped since they didn't want to do dual action in Savannah / New York. I had no idea she was cast and even shot scenes.

DAYS: Resumed production on Tue. 5/4, no official announcement yet from NBC
From the same article: So yeah, Corday / Sony have been making deals with cast members if it's renewed already. So it doesn't sound like a "let every actor go off contract" situation.

Honestly, if they make no profit of the current production on DAYS then maybe a good idea is to, I don't know, CAPITALIZE ON THE HUGE BACKCATALOGUE OF EPISODES THEY HAVE LAYING AROUND? I mean, I'm just suggesting something here, no pressure.

Neilson VS Streaming.
I don't even think you necessarily need to "airdrop" entire "seasons" these days - if anything, it does seem like a lot of streaming services are experimenting with some sort of weekly release (The Flight Attendant went 3-2-2-1 episode(s) per week). Which makes sense - the advantage of dropping episodes weekly is that people come back and inevitably look at other content. Daily releases might be too much, but I could see a model where they plan on releasing episodes 2-3 times a week depending on which days they usually release new shows to get the maximum amount of exposure for those shows.

The easy guess is that his record label owned the rights to the song/master tape, hence could license it to ABC. If there's money to be paid, then corporations are going to go after it. I'm sure Cross got paid in royalities, but maybe didn't receive a direct check from ABC. Plus, his label were likely glad to get the exposure, but I can imagine that his management (and himself) wasn't thrilled with the idea of him becoming some singer best known for putting out songs about fictional characters after Arthur's Theme (ironically, it was his last hit single).- Dallas Discussion Thread
The first half of the dream season is quite good to be fair, it's the second half that got into a bit of a rambling mess with the jungle and Nero stuff.- Days: 4/19/2021 Weekly Preview
I guess a bright red coat is sort of recognizable (assuming it's that one you meant, I haven't watched the show in a while).- Days: April 2021 Discussion Thread
Most networks were thinking about getting out of soaps at that time and Passion was the first that went, then Guiding Light and As The World Turns, then of course One Life To Live and All My Children. The truth is that General Hospital was next to go if they hadn't seen that the replacements weren't doing well (I think NBC ultimately ended up giving up Passions time slot to affliaties, but I might be wrong) and that's what's so far kept the remaining soaps on air. They know if they lift them off at this point they'll not only get replacements doing worse, but also likely affect the rest of the remaining daytime line up negatively. I assume they've figured the remaining soaps DO have a unique audience that won't tune in unless there's a soap on air.- Days: April 2021 Discussion Thread
TALKING ABOUT CHARITY RAHMER ON DAYS ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ Three weeks we shall never forget!!!! When will Ken let us stream them??!?!?- Strange Paradise
https://www.youtube.com/user/strangeparadise69/playlists Has the first two arcs and seems to be uploading the last arc.- Strange Paradise
Definitively an imitation. I also think if you enjoyed the spooks of DS you'd enjoy SP. How they do away with characters is kind of insane though; but I've only watched the first two arcs.- Strange Paradise
I know no one is interested but I just randomly saw that the channel has started adding the episodes of the second (and last!) arc of Desmond Hall:- DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos

Doesn't really seem that optimistic for this round of pilots. The script hasn't been sent out either it seems. So best case scenario they'll keep it in consideration next round, worst case it's just been passed on.- The Doctors Discussion Thread
Honestly, the more I read about early daytime television (and early television in general) I don't get the feeling they thought much about the long-term, but were just happy they were able to get an episode on air each afternoon. I'm sure the reason they switched formats was because they eventually just realised how hard it was to write a new story each day - while it might seem obvious to us now, I don't think they thought that far ahead. As long as the show got on air they were fine.- Days: April 2021 Discussion Thread
It's a bit hard to imagine they'd cancel it with co-vid still around, but I guess they could surrender the slot to affiliates? With that said, last time around production got shut down and everyone got released from their contracts, so who knows if they'll let it happen again just to try and get it even cheaper than last time.- Primetime shows that were cancelled too soon
The last season aired exclusively on Hulu in 2018? And yes, L.A. Complex was pretty much what the Melrose Place reboot should've been. It's a shame it was just a Canadian import and didn't get much of a push as a result.- DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
To be fair, he started when soap operas was basically live-to-tape and there were very little time between taping and airing date (maybe one or two weeks). Having long-terms plans probably didn't seem as necessary as getting the show on air on time, plus the audience feedback (positive/negative) could actually change the course of the story. I imagine he at least knew where the story was going, but I'd imagine that he'd also constantly had to have a plan b, c or e in the back-pocket in case the network/audience rejected stories in a big way. I guess in some ways, soap writers have cushier jobs these days when they're at least two (or more in DAYS case) ahead.- DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
To be fair, I think it was just a joke referencing to how Tommy would just randomly disappear and re-appear during the 70s (though this is how urban legends get started). It seems like they just lost interest in the character after his initial storyline was done, so I don't know why they didn't just send him off screen. Certainly, the "falling in love with your own sister" thing would be a good reason to need a break from Salem. - GH April 2021 Discussion
