  1. In my mind, Allison was murdered by Jack Chandler. But I did like how they never properly solved it - of course, mostly because they were probably thinking about possibly re-casting or that Mia would agree to come back - but they made it reflect nicely to what a lot of parents experience when children run away from home; that uncertainty if they're out there alive and well or if they're not, and having to move on despite that uncertainty.
  2. Interesting! I think a lot of the issue is that there's no rush to catch up on today's episode if it doesn't air on tv since you can watch at your own pace - time will tell if people will binge watch the episodes they missed.
  3. Thanks - I find the sort-of continuity-but-not-really they did for RTPP and the follow up movies (the last one being a pitch for a 80s prime time soap opera) very odd. I guess Return to Peyton Place didn't kill Allison off, which was a common theme.
  4. I'm not surprised - there was a reason why DAYS was still on the air despite being its own island on NBC daytime for over a decade; there's a reason why it seemed that the affiliates were shocked by this move. I doubt DAYS will go back on air though.
  5. Too bad the one who captured it couldn't do a proper rip as the scene in the promo looks decent - especially for a "special" effect on a daytime soap I guess. Was the promo for the pilot? (hence them stressing over "the NEW Peyton Place")
  6. DAYS watchers are notorious smokers and bon-bon eaters. It is very well known. Candid image of the typical DAYS watcher:
  7. To be fair - I think writing a long-term murder mystery where we're simultanously surprised at the killer while it also makes perfect sense is hard - if not impossible thanks to online chatter dissecting every detail. With that said, I much prefer straight-forward solutions rather than attempting to do something convulted for the sake of being shocking.
  8. To be fair, it's not that I even dislike it as such (hey, it makes as much sense as anyone!) and the post-JER late 90s/early 00s era is the first time I fell out of the show (having watched since the Carly's buried alive episodes), so I've never had any long-lasting affection to Nancy and Craig. With that said, I find it hilarious considering that they tried to calm down upset Nancy/Craig fans with how it was emotionally relevant, not some cheap stunt etc. And now they potentially have Craig murdering a legacy character in cold blood over... Leo.
  9. The only good thing about the launch on Peacock is that it went immidiately there without a break and that they at least have a year of episodes to evaluate its performance. But that's pretty much it - as you said, this decision should've been made months ago (or preferably, NBC/Peacock should've been clear that they were going to move it from the start) and the show probably should've been put on production hiatus (which would've been no issue since they're filming so far ahead) for them to re-group with the move. Ideally, I would've gone with them doing a soft reboot - tie up most stories for the broadcast viewers but leave with a cliffhanger to follow it on Peacock. Tighten up the cast so that potential curiosity viewers can catch up quickly and cut it to 20-30 minutes (which is always the ideal format for a daytime soap). The time jump move would've been perfect for this.
  10. I think it's worth remembering that they're just doing this to be nice - it's a show that ended almost 35 years ago, unlikely to ever land a profitable syndication deal and won't be realistically released on DVD/Blu-Ray. So taking time out to promote something that's unlikely to ever earn them money is just a bonus.
  11. lol, if it is Craig then it pretty much goes against everything they claimed him coming out as gay storyline was about. So he comes out as gay, gets engaged with the worst person in Salem and then starts murdering people. Such an inspiring and moving storyline had by all. On the other hand - at least Craig is somewhat relevant to the cast than let's say Li Shin (who I had my money on being the killer since he could just be easily written out without any long-term reprecussions) or Jackie Cox.
  12. Someone should reboot Peyton Place if there's any show.
  13. I did point out that Graham's voice changed in the last scene...
  14. Why does Allison support Carson so much?
  15. I will say this - they do drop hints who the murderer is...
  16. With Abby's murder and Saleisha from Top Model and Lamon leaving do they literally only know when people are leaving the day before, hence the rushed scripts? You'd think they would be better at writing exit stories...
  17. I just find it funny that at the same time they're trying to convince us that Abby is totally dead and buried they've re-introduced Stefan, whose heart is in Julie. Way to undermine yourself, show.
  18. Yes, absolutely. Just look at Dark Shadows - it also burnt very bright for two years or so and then it just fell. Part of it was blamed on Dan Curtis checking out to do the movie, but on the other hand, regular soap fans are ridiculously devoted and won't tune out in droves because of a bad few months (which weren't that bad tbh). The implication being here that the Dark Shadows fans who brought it to its heights were more fickle than regular soap watchers; same with the kind of audience who tuned into Passions 30 years later. Either way, Passions does deserve some credit for actually improving its initial ratings for a while - something that neither Sunset Beach or Port Charles managed to do.
  19. Lord, I'm just catching up and realising that I left off before Abby was killed. I think Gwen did it because obviously Abby destroying that shitty mug Gwen made for Jack like they were five years old is the crime of the century!
  20. I wouldn't say Passions was a disappointment during its entire run - I think around 2002-03 or somewhere around that mark, it was one of the few soaps that managed to grow from its initial ratings on broadcast and was impressive in the younger demographic (which is how it survived almost a decade on air). It's just that as JER increasingly lost the plot, so did Passions (and by extension DAYS in his second run).
  21. A bit dumb to compare ratings from a decade ago considering how hard broadcast ratings have fallen. The only thing this shows is how far Passions had dropped by the end of its run on NBC.
  22. I imagine Dallas struggled a lot with rising cast costs early on, especially with Larry being a breakout star and already re-negotiating his pay after the Who Shot JR cliffhanger; it probably meant that a lot of other cast members started demanding raises especially with the show being an international phenomenom. Being a show about a family also meant that they just couldn't replace them easily. Meanwhile, Knots wasn't a phenomenom and no one was really a break-out star like JR. Add that if someone tried to pull rank they'd just remind them that the character could move out and be replaced, so they didn't have the same negotiation power. Plus early on they lost four original cast members and kept costs down that way.
  23. I mean, ideally they should've known this move would happen when they got renewed for 2 years - personally, I would've liked to see most storylines tied up and then a(nother) time jump leading into a soft reboot on Peacock. But alas, NBC did make this decision at the very last minute so we can't get nice things.
  24. They had a month and one week to get everything together, including doing promotional rounds/material to advertise the move which I'm sure took front seat. Add the regular recording of episodes - I just don't think they realistically had time, especially trying to insert something that would still respect the continuity. This isn't on Corday/Ron - this is entirely on NBC/Peacock. This move was by all accounts sudden.
  25. @j swift The guy who is blackmailing Liam is the nephew of a literature professor. Liam had a brief stint at a university to get over a writers block, met this professor who died unexpectedly and stole his manuscript to sell as his own since he was pressured by his publisher to deliver a script. Until now, only Sam knew about this, but obviously the nephew found out and is now blackmailing him. The person who is trying to take over the company isn't Fallon's assistant - she's a board member. Was it just me or did "Graham"'s voice change during that last bit? 🤔
