Search For Tomorrow Discussion Thread
CBS almost expanded Search for Tomorrow and As the World Turns to 45-minute lengths. This was prior, of course, to the expanded As the World Turns to an hour. The plan was for the CBS affiliates to loose the local thirty-minute timeslot in which the stations aired the local news. Search for Tomorrow would air from 12:00 until 12:45, and As the World Turns would air from 12:45 until 1:30. Had that been done, neither The Edge of Night nor Search for Tomorrow may have changed networks. Actress Margaret Whitton appeared on Search for Tomorrow, but I am unsure of the role. She was also on The Doctors (as Joan Dancy) and on One Life to Live. She passed away today or yesterday.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
I am not sure who Margaret Whitton played on One Life to Live, but she has passed away. I have read today that she was also on The Doctors (Joan Dancy in 1967) and on Search for Tomorrow (role unknown).

The Doctors Discussion Thread
Sorry but Danfling is confusing the Pollocks with Jerome and Bridget Dobson. The Pollocks wrote Brighter Day,Love of Life The Doctors,General Hospital and Dynasty. I did confuse them. I apologize. Margaret Whitton, who played Joan Dancy on The Doctors in 1976, has passed away. I have read today that she was also on Search for Tomorrow and One Life to Live, but I am not sure who she played.

Ms. Toll later auditioned for the role of Mary Ryan Fennelli on Ryan's Hope. I understand that she was very good in the audition. However, she and the show could not come to an agreement on a contract with salary being the main problem.

Some One Life to Live questions for Slick: 1. Do you know who played Wanda's brother Al? 2. Do you know the name of the character and the actor who played him? He was a nephew of Ina Hopkins. He was studying to be a lawyer, and seemed to be falling in love with Katrina Karr.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
Asa was related to the Texas branch of the Webb family, and Wanda was a part of the Pennsylvania Webb family. Wanda also had a brother named Al. I don't know what actor played him. I think that he was seen when Wanda and Vinnie married. I am thinking that that set when Wanda owned Wanda's Heavenly Hash was also the set that Tony Lord used when he owned a restaurant. (I cannot remember the name of the restaurant. Was it Tony's Place?) Wanda later moved her restaurant to Angel Square. That set, unless I am mistaken, was the same one that Carolotta had when she ran a diner there. Also, the set where Wanda moved also had a second story. I think that Jason Webb lived there, and so did Lee Ann Demorist. I remember the scenes in which Vicki took Duke for Lee Ann (his mother) to visit. Kevin was not letting Lee Ann see Duke at the time.

I have not seen this show for many years, so I have forgotten. Where was this show set?

Claire Labine, who was one of the show's co-headwriers (with Paul Avila Meyer) has passed away. Her death was announced yesterday.

Where the Heart Is (1969-1973)
I believe that Paul Avilla Mayer was already a writer of Where the Heart Is when Claire Labine began writing. They soon became partners and were the new headwriters of the show. Ms. Labine had begun writing for television on the Captain Kangaroo program. She has passed away. Her death was announced yesterday.

James Congdon appeared on Another World, Somerset, and Ryan's Hope. I am sure that you just overlooked posting that Terryanne Crawford had appeared on Dark Shadows (as Terry Crawford).

Comment: I thought that the character of Staci O'Neill should have been retained and utilized later in the story. She and Stephanie were good foils. Question: What was the name of the character that Kale Brown played on the show?

"I really like Matt Ashford as Cagney. It's unfortunate he was so forgettable as Tom Hardy, the other "normal" soap role he played." I remember him as Drew Ralston on One Life to Live, and I consider that role very normal.

The First Hundred Years
An episode of The First Hundred Years has been placed on YouTube. In it, I learned that the show used orchestral accompaniment. Jimmy Lydon looked and acted very well. His looks indicated that he could have had a successful career in serials. However, his voice was almost the same as he had previously used in the Henry Aldrich movies.

Our Private World
I would love to know who played Dr. Taylor and Sgt. Clark. The show's associate producer, Chandler Warren, was also a writer for Texas. (I wonder if the character of Chandler Garrison on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing was named for him?)

One of the above articles mentions Dorothy Peterson in the cast. I wonder who she played.

Our Private World
I was nine years old when this show aired. I remember that my mother lost interest due to a decline in the character Lisa as the series continued. I also remembered that the theme was the same as that of As the World Turns, but I have been corrected in the past. Hearing the theme on this clip reminded me that the theme did indeed quote the theme song of As the World Turns. The composer later scored the theme to ABC's A World Apart, my favorite soap opera theme song.
