Apologies if I was unclear. The indefinite deal is the Sony deal that Corday inherited. The litigation between Corday and Sony discussed the contracts signed in 1965 regarding production and distribution of DAYS. That is the deal he inherited - it had nothing to do with him as he was a child at the time and he'd actually sought to terminate it in 2019 when Corday sued Sony claiming Sony had failed to distribute the show to the benefit of its wholly owned Y&R. That litigation did not proceed to trial. In terms of NBC being able to move the show to Peacock, as @Broderick (hilariously) explained that was very likely a condition of renewal, full stop. It was very likely a take it or leave it deal and Sony as a distribution partner has certainly hampered Corday's ability to market and sell the show - but that's what he inherited and has had to work with from the day he took over in 1986. I tend to agree that it seems DAYS will end at the end of its 2023 contract and may reincarnate as some kind of arc/weekly series if it's a success, but I think it's time as a daily serial will be over in 2023. This is why I said it has all the feelings of a 'soft cancellation'.

We'll never know for sure but my understanding is the Bells never owned Y&R - what they had is/was a production deal that entitles them to profit and while Bill was alive, creative control. Once Bill died, it was overnight the changes started rolling in and have done so for the last 17 years to ill effect. I tend to be a bit more forgiving of Corday's business prowess. There is ultimately only so much that can be done with a 57 year old television property and Corday inherited the relationship with Sony.

It is moving to Peacock because the NBC renewal gave NBC the option to do so. @Broderick has a (hilariously) on point theory about the discussion that NBC likely had with Corday a few pages back. My understanding of the Corday Productions credit on Y&R has to do with the litigation the Cordays took against Bill Bell when he quit DAYS to start Y&R and that it does not impart any control or ownership over the show but does give profit participation. It is the same way Bell Dramatic Serial Company is a production partner at Y&R, but does not actually own the show (the inverse is true of Sony's relationship with Corday. Corday owns the show but Sony has a distribution/production contract that is indefinite). In Bill Bell's biography there was a vague explanation that Bill negotiated a production deal that gave him control and 'equal' participation in the show's profits, but not ownership of the show itself.

I certainly hope so too and concur about how Neighbours did it. That is how a soap should go out. Corday should really have two finales - one for the NBC broadcast and another for whatever transpires on Peacock.

Y&R is of course owned by Sony, so the transition would be easy, but I think Y&R doesn't know how to write for a mature woman anymore. Susan Walters is already doing Herculean work carrying the show on her back at the moment. It would be wonderful to see LK's Margo with DD's Bill. Once a Spencer, always a Spencer. Whether lovers or allies or rivals...or all of the above. A woman of her experience is what B&B has been sorely lacking for nearly a decade. I agree with you and I hope that comes to pass...but when it comes to DAYS they often make the wrong choice. The more that I think of this move to Peacock, the more the phrase 'soft cancellation' comes to mind. DAYS, as we know it, is over in a month. Once the 2023 contract extension concludes, the show will either end, having served its 'purpose' of driving up subscribers or not. The intellectual property may be repurposed into telenovelas or 'arc' based storytelling formats that will pop up a few times a year...but the daily daytime drama has likely entered its sunset in Salem.

Well, I hope Lauren Koslow is dusting off her resume and sending her reel to Brad Bell...B&B could do with a Margo Lynley return and my concern about the size of the DAYS cast, let alone its budget, has me wondering on whose staying and whose going.

I totally agree with you. Even if disrupts continuity, they should wedge in an episode specifically shot to say goodbye to those network viewers who won't or can't follow the show to Peacock. Even if it's simply an episode where everyone is happy, like what Australia's Neighbours just did, where it's clear that life will go on, with the full theme music, that should be done. The network viewing audience deserves it.

Generally, once an hour has been given back to affiliates, that's it, and the hour doesn't go back to the network so DAYS is either going to succeed on Peacock or it's over. The question is whether DAYS is sustainable on a daily basis, or whether this experiment might flop and whether DAYS will transition into something else rather than a daily show. Perhaps arcs, perhaps twice a week, perhaps once a week but run every week of the year.

Truer words can't be spoken. It is classic PR 101 to announce bad news at the end of the day. But a Wednesday, midweek, is not typical. They usually reserve the really bad news for the Friday before a long weekend.

It really depends on Sony and Corday. It isn't as if they have sacrificed ownership of the show to place it on Peacock so they're free to shop it around wherever they like.

Yes, that's how I watched it. Global also made the second Beyond Salem available on its Stack TV platform. That would be the lingering concern that Global will shift DAYS onto Stack TV...but the issue for Global is what they'd be able to air to fill the timeslot.

Not necessarily. Global's W Network has aired the Beyond Salem episodes and the Canadian network Slice airs the Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip programs at the same time they premiere on Peacock. Global may retain the Canadian rights to air it on network television. We'll have to wait and see because I doubt Global wants to slot in a new program at 1pm with only a month's notice and it won't air the NBC News programming due to Canadian content laws.

That was an excellent episode. It built, and it built, and then the payoff was beautifully shot with that great score.

I was able to watch the finale. It was a love letter to the audience and had a level of dignity and integrity that you seldom see in a series finale, regardless of the genre.

This case is a good example of why allegations are just that and there should either be publication bans until conviction or mandatory retractions should be part of law. It's often said that people are convicted on page 1 and vindicated on page 23.
