  1. WLS reports that Chip Mayer who played TJ Daniels has died age 57. he was at one time married to Eileen Davidson (Ashley Y&R) http://www.welovesoaps.net/2011/07/chipmayer.html#more
  2. 1975 1. ATWT 9.5 2, Y&R 8.3 3, AW 8.3 4. SFT 8.2 5.DOOL 8,0 6. GL 7.9 7. AMC 7.2 8. LOL 7.1 9. GH 7.0 10 DRS 6.9
  3. 1974 1.ATWT 10.9 2.DOOL 10.7 3.SFT 9.7 4.DRS 9.5 5.AW 9.5 6.Y&R 9.0 7.GL 8.3 8.AMC 7.9 9.GH 7.9 10.LOL 7.8 ATWT back on top thanks to the Soderbergs,I guess. Big jump for SFT and Y&R. I remember seeing a total daytime ratings list from around that time with gameshows included and a few of them bumped soaps down the list.
  4. Some PP photo memories
  5. Re AW Robert Cenedella never seems to get credit for keeping the show up in the ratings for several years. Is that because towards the end of his run,the ratings were softening, thus causing Lemay to replace him? Did Rauch and Lemay arrive at the same time? If not,who was first at the show? Here's the 73 ratings for that week in Nov 1.AW 10.1 2.AMC 9.8 3.ATWT 9.7 4. DOOL 9.4 5, GL 9.1 6.DRS 8.8 7.EON 8.7 8.GH 8.2 9.SFT 7.7 10.RTPP 7.1 EON and DRS were close ,both in the same timeslot. Reports of that time usually state that EON was hammered by the competition. GH had fallen dramatically and I didn't realize AMC was so high so early.
  6. In the second pic Flannery looks like a cross between Abby Dalton and Donna Mills! Do posters think Mac Carey deserved a best actor award?
  7. When I saw those Dec ratings and EON at #2,I have to admit I am puzzled that a few weeks earlier it didn't even make the Top 10. Here are the ratings for the same Nov week in 1972 1. GH 10.6 2. ATWT 10.2 3. DOOL 9.8 4. DRS 9.5 5. AW 9.1 6. OLTL 8.8 7.AMC 8.3 8.GL 8.0 9.SFT 8.0 10.EON 7.5 ABC was really making its presence felt and NBC was still strong. EON had suffered due to the timeslot change to 2.30
  8. Welcome Zoe! You mentioned Ma Henderson.I have read before that she was briefly on,but you are the first poster to verify this. Do you have any other details?.I understand she was a Liz Foster type.Do you know who played her? Help us solve a Y&R mystery!!!
  9. Yes,it's called Whistling Girl http://www.amazon.com/Whistling-Girl-Ann-Marcus/dp/1880867001/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1311546594&sr=1-4
  10. Daytime TV had an article in 75 dealing with the fact that back in 71, for the first time since 1960 (according to them), ATWT was beaten in the weekly ratings. They published the ratings for that momentous week of Nov 12th and followed up with the same weeks rating for the next 4 years. Thought posters might be interested.I wonder what show (s) beat ATWT in 1960? Does anyone know what was happening on DOOl and GH the weeks that they hit #1? 1971 1. DOOL 10.0 2.ATWT 9.8 3.TD 9.6 4. GH 9.5 5.AW 9.4 6.SFT 7.9 7.LOL 7.6 8.LIAMST 7.6 9.SS 7.1 10.OLTL 6.7 Interesting to see the dominance of NBC with 3 of the top 5 shows yet Bright Promise and Somerset failing to follow through, and GH doing so well as the lone hit ABC show. It must have been hard for CBS to have ATWT dethroned and no other soap in the top 5.Also,shows traditionally perceived as weaker (LOL,SS etc outdoing GL and EON) I'll post the next ratings later.
  11. Mary Stuart interview in SOD,Nov 81 In current scripts,Jo has become a bitter woman. She fought with her partner Stu,because he hired Stephanie Wyatt(Jo's nemesis for many years)son to work at their inn. Jo has become a jealous woman as well, which Mary feels is "totally unlike her".The actress edits her lines when she feels they aren't true to Jo's personality. "I think the writers are gypping the audience. They think the viewers won't notice and that's ridiculous" While Mary disapproves of this kind of change, she'd appreciate her character becoming"less square". She found Jo's refusal to accompany her husband Martin on a trip to Florida,"silly".It's not too wise to make Jo a stick-in-the-mud just so she and Martin can fight. This isn't fair to Jo's friends - I mean her fan's who've been very supportive of me." Mary cares a great deal about Jo's future. She feels the character can contribute so much more to"SFT". "I'd like to get her involved in politics.she ran for city councilwoman, won and nothing was ever done with it.If they want a problem with Martin, let it be her career.Let Jo be too busy to go places with her husband, which is true of a lot of women." Speaking candidly,Mary confessed,"The way they've used my character for the last four years has hurt my feelings terribly.I'm grateful to the audience for being so loyal." The actress remarked that when the writers are thoughtful, sensitive people, she's usually happy with her lines. These writers approach her to ask how she feels about the stories. In general,Mary feels the people involved with SFT work well together. "we only get into trouble when any one person tries to get too powerful",she said. "In the beginning,we were a family operation, and it would be great to get back to that". 0
  12. Thanks again for your replies and info. A 1961 book tie-in
  13. Gene and Toni in the Somerset era
  14. Never knew there was a tie in book. Matt is looking a little like Brains from Thunderbirds.
  15. Steve,Carolee and baby Stephie
  16. Janice is looking a little 'deer in the headlights' here...
  17. That's great..First Somerset article I've seen from SOD. Lyle is talking it up,but the ratings were bad and it was soon over. What was the storyline for Picon,Jacobi and Questel? That constant change of headwriters is deadly.Surely when they appoint new writers, they approve the story plans? Somerset was only giving writers a few months, not enough time to set up new characters and stories.
  18. Justin and Elizabeth marry.
  19. ATWT made the cover of TV Guide in 1971
  20. Here's a photo the shows Karl Weber in the role of Arthur Tate.Weber stepped in between Terry O'Sullivans two stints on the show.
  21. Rosemary Forsyth, who played Laura on Days from 76-80,auditioned when the character was revived in 93 but lost out to Jaime Lyn Bauer.
