  1. ABC Thursday had been a dead zone since 1982/83. Full House started slow but it showed growth two seasons later with the launch of TGIF. CBS primetime scripted line up was not looking good heading into 1987/88. Murder, She Wrote still a hit. Dallas, Newhart, Kate & Allie, Falcon Crest, Knots Landing, Simon & Simon; Magnum, P.I.; Cagney & Lacey were aging. The Equalizer not a hit. Only returning new drama Houston Knights. Returning new comedies Designing Women, My Sister Sam, The Cavanaughs. 1987/88 CBS ended Magnum, P.I; Cagney & Lacey, Houston Knights, My Sister Sam, the new dramas that returned were Beauty and the Beast, Jake and the Fatman, Tour of Duty, Wiseguy, and the only new comedy to return was Coming of Age.
  2. Hahaha. @Broderick you are killing me.
  3. Week of September 28-October 4, 1987 had Moonlighting season 4 premiere and Falcon Crest season 7 premiere. ALF season 2 premiere, Who's the Boss season 4 premiere, Dynasty season 8 premiere, The Cosby Show season 4 premiere, A Different World series premiere, Cheers season 6 premiere, Knots Landing season 9 premiere, Dallas season 11 premiere, Miami Vice season 4 premiere were one week earlier. Night Court season 5 premiere, Growing Pains season 3 premiere, The Golden Girls season 3 premiere; Murder, She Wrote season 4 premiere were two weeks earlier. Family Ties season 6 premiere was three weeks earlier and in a new time slot Sunday 8 pm. L.A. Law season 2 premiere was two weeks away. 1987/88 was not a very good season. Nielsen people meters wreaking havoc, not really any breakout hits, the CBS primetime soaps going off the rails. Yes it was the peak of sitcoms but it also was the start of dramas declining.
  4. Saw them, and agree.
  5. @P.J. What are your thoughts on the rumored casting of Reva with Carla Borelli? I can't imagine anyone other than Kim Zimmer as Reva. There's also the age and looks difference between the two (in 1983 blonde Kim Zimmer was 28 and brunette Carla Borelli was 41).
  6. 1985/86 the ratings tanked, going from 10th in 1984/85 to 24th. Clean swept by new episodes of The Cosby Show; Murder, She Wrote; The Golden Girls, Miami Vice. All but three episodes were last among the big four soaps. It's amazing that Falcon Crest made it past this season, but then again CBS didn't have much success with new dramas in 1985/86 (only The Equalizer and The Twilight Zone returned in 1986/87) and their main dramas Dallas, Knots Landing, Simon & Simon; Magnum, P.I.; Cagney & Lacey were also struggling that season so when those factors were considered CBS spared Falcon Crest the chopping block.
  7. Maybe Jermaine Rivers can take his talents to BtG, perhaps as a brother to Bill or Ted.
  8. Pamela Long created the Coopers with Harley, Frank, Pops, Nadine and Nancy Curlee expanded the family with Stavros and Eleni. JFP watch saw the intros of Buzz and Lucy and the Coopers being elevated to a main family. I asked this before but which family expansion/elevation did more damage, Lewis or Cooper?
  9. Fingers crossed that BtG doesn't go the trope of dark skin villain/light skin hero. That's some Tyler Perry s---. An Amen reunion!
  10. Please soap gods let Josh Griffith be on the way out.
  11. Of course, Beverlee McKinsey as well. I forgot her mainly because I associate her with Another World.
  12. In 1981 Douglas Marland introduced the Lewis family from Oklahoma that owned an oil company. To me that was influenced by Dallas. Lewis Oil was still around in the 1990s and it was so outdated by then. 1990s Lewis Oil should have diversified into Lewis Energy or Lewis Industries or something like that.
  13. Gail Kobe and Pamela Long brought several former Texas actors and actresses to GL: Jay Hammer, Harley Kozak, Jerry Lanning, Lisby Larson, James Rebhorn, Michael Woods. If I'm missing any please add. It was also rumored that Pamela Long wanted Carla Borelli for Reva.
  14. Both equally egregious. Kobe/Long and the Texas invasion got the ratings to rebound from the post-Marland slump but it also caused long-term damage that was evident in the final 25 years.
  15. I think the B&B part Marcy Walker turned down was recast Kristen Forrester, but it's never been confirmed.
  16. Marcy Walker GL run was fall 1993 to summer 1995, so not even two full years. Her return to All My Children was not long after, I think early fall.
  17. Thanks for the reply @P.J. Marcy Walker turned down B&B and joined GL instead, but I have no idea how she would've fit on B&B in 1993 as their cast then was quite full of females around her age plus I think she dodged a bullet by not having to deal with Bradley writing for her. Then again JFP/Curlee didn't really give Marcy Walker any better material than what Bradley probably would've given her.
  18. Taylor Swift could move past Madonna and Rihanna on the Billboard Hot 100 #1 list with this album. It's possible that in the next few years Taylor Swift could move past Mariah Carey.
  19. @P.J. Which Friend of Jill incident was the most egregious: Vincent Irizarry, Justin Deas, Marj Dusay, Marcy Walker. We also saw Mark Derwin and Sonia Satra become Friends of Jill.
  20. Aftermath of Maureen death until Nancy Curlee left the writing team, way too much Buzz and it was a chore to get through. I watched it online so I can only imagine how painful it was for those who watched in real time.
  21. I was not expecting the defense of Joshua Morrow but I'm sticking to my guns. Alex Alegria is BtG's Ronn Moss. Ben Gavin is BtG's Joshua Morrow.
  22. Oh the shade of it all, I love it.
  23. Eww. Ben Gavin doesn't do anything for me. He's BtG's version of Joshua Morrow, has that same overgrown frat boy persona. Yeah, Jacob is no Andre.
  24. Josh Griffith needs to go.
