  1. It seems like this show is more driven toward relationships than anything else, at least initially. The first couple of months almost all about developing each character and the relationships between them. It also seems like MVJ tried to go against the trends of the other soaps by not have a big corporation on the canvas. Corporations aren't a bad thing on soaps, but they often end up being a crutch for writers who don't know what to do with the characters.
  2. Kim must have been in between jobs and in need of a check to do that. It is listed before "Santa Barbara" on her filmography so I'm assuming she was in need. But at least it was a one time job, Pernell Roberts was narrating the mess for all of the episodes.
  3. Michael J. Fox found success after "Family Ties" with "Spin City". Of course he had to leave that for health reasons. Demond Wilson did "Baby...I'm Back!" post Sanford and Son. It got decent ratings, but was apparently canceled because Norman Lear wanted another season of "Good Times". Unlike a lot of shows that feature acts from massive hits, Wilson had a supporting cast that was fairly decent (Denise Nicholas and Helen Martin). A few years later he started in "The New Odd Couple" with Ron Glass, but a writers strike forced the show to recycle episodes from the original series and it was canceled because it didn't find an audience even after original scripts were written. Pernell Roberts had a good run of seven years with "Trapper John MD" years after he left "Bonanza". "Nurse" was very short lived, but it did net Michael Learned a fourth Emmy after three others for "The Waltons".
  4. Someone else that comes to mind with hit and miss is Delta Burke. She had a self-titled sitcom with "Delta" that didn't last and later on "Women Of The House" where she revived Suzanne Sugarbaker after patching things up with the Bloodworths. Redd Foxx tried to revive Fred Sanford with "Sanford" and then had the very short lived "Redd Foxx Show". "The Royal Family" might have gone somewhere had he not passed away because I believe it did get attention because he worked so well with Della Reese, who much like LaWanda Page had the chops to match him and not be dwarfed, Jackie was added to the show to try and save it but to no.avail. Jackee bounced back with "Sister, Sister" and is one of the only successful primetime stars who came back to daytime.
  5. That sounds accurate. "227" came on the air so quickly that it had to have been at least in the planning stages while Marla was still on "The Jeffersons". Marla is one of the more shrewd actresses out there because she was right back on "The Jeffersons" when "Checking In" didn't last so I assume she had a strong contract.
  6. She was definitely to blame because she wanted Carroll and Davis on board as well wanting Gale Gordon as her co-star (who demanded pay for 22 episodes even if the show wasn't given such an order). She also brought in her old crew members one of which was a sound man who was hard of hearing. That was sitcom material in itself.
  7. Lucille Ball managed to maintain a level of success post "I Love Lucy" with "The Lucy Show" and "Here's Lucy". But the massively panned "Life With Lucy" was a horrible way to cap off her career and she never got over it. The supporting cast was crappy and the writing was so antiquated. Carroll O'Connor did well for himself after Archie Bunker by playing a dramatic role in "In The Heat of the Night". "Step by Step" was a decent gig for Suzanne Somers and Patrick Duffy who had previously made names for themselves on long running, iconic shows. Kim Fields found success after "The Facts of Life" with "Living Single" which had the similar four friends living in the same space format. Sherman Hemsley landed in "Amen" only a year after "The Jeffersons" ended, but his co-star Marla Gibbs landed "227" just months after "The Jeffersons" ended. Isabel Sanford was the only Emmy winner out of the bunch, but her only endeavor was a week long tryout syndicated sitcom called "Isabel's Honeymoon Hotel".
  8. Those episodes probably did very well for the show if they are rebroadcasting them. It's a wise choice to not run new episodes when a lot of viewers may not be watching TV because of traveling or holiday celebrations. Showing some of the strongest material might draw in new viewers among channel surfers and those actually watching TV during Thanksgiving Eve and Thanksgiving.
  9. Lol that wasn't Elon, that was Marcel.
  10. Lois Kibbee (Geraldine Saxon) wrote for The Edge of Night while on the show.
  11. Leslie is the dramatic version of Nikki Parker. Of course, Nikki's obsession with Stanley was pretty disturbing even though The Parkers was a sitcom. Bill calling Dani on her honeymoon was really intrusive and annoying. And at the same time the fool is guzzling down tea that Hayley is way too persistent in getting him to drink. Eva has stopped trying to be sympathetic and is more interested in antagonizing Kat.
  12. This upgrade is better than the Abbott Mansion refresh.
  13. I'm putting money on Kat trying to harm Eva or at least doing it by accident. That's the second time she's said something that implied that she wants Eva gone permanently. But Martin really shouldn't have been talking about Kat to Eva because that further makes the already bad situation worse.
  14. Ted also stays at the hotel and Vernon is probably aware of that. As much as Ted wants to be back in Nicole's good graces he might feel obligated to tell if he saw Vernon coming out of a woman's room since keeping secrets got him in so much trouble before.
  15. Vernon was spotted by the worst person possible. Leslie is definitely going to use that to her advantage somehow.
  16. It would be better if Naomi was the one to save him and less predictable. She let Hayley into their lives and it would be fitting for her to doing the rescuing. I think it might happen that way because the writers have made it a point for Naomi to really know Hayley's personality. I went YouTube searching and found the scene with Janice Frame and Rachel Cory. That disturbed smile that she gives Rachel in the 3/14/1980 cliffhanger was insanely good acting on Christine Jones' part.
  17. Leslie intimidating Laura reminded me of when Alex Olanov said something to scare the crap out of Addie on One Life to Live. It is so transparent that Leslie is about to get in trouble for what she did, but how it plays out will be interesting to see. Hayley slipped a bit by showing a little too much concern about Izaiah being a prospect for Ashley, but Bill is too clueless to pick up on that. And speaking for Izaiah, Leslie was quite interested in him so I'm wondering if she's going to be a Marian Colby. That would be hard to do from jail, though.
  18. Derek doesn't seem all that broken up if he can kiss somebody so quickly. But he does match up with the firefighter better than he ever did with Ashley. Vernon is surely not cheating, but leaving his cuff links at her hotel was not a good look. Why were they even off?
  19. Derek is the safe choice for Ashley which is why she was willing to marry him, although part of that was motivated by sympathy for his condition. Either way she should have just left him alone. Naomi is projecting her anger about her own situation into Ashley's and that is wrong. She's trying to make Ashley have an angry response of throwing Derek's things outside and that just isn't who Ashley is. And that nasty crack about hope she made to Derek was seriously annoying. Kat and Ted had a much needed talk. While I think Kat is being ridiculous thinking that Ted is putting Eva in front of her, I do think Kat was right to tell him about Eva's antics. Furthermore, it's way overdue that Ted had a conversation with Tomas. Tomas has played both of his daughters against each other and Ted needs to hold him to task.
  20. Eva isn't even trying to monopolize Ted so I don't get what Kat's problem is. That "whatever it takes" line suggests that Kat is going to start scheming big time and end up looking like the villain.
  21. Reflecting on how good it is to be alive and to never take each day for granted. A co-worker of mine was asked to leave work after yelling at a resident (I work in a retirement home) and yesterday he was arrested for attempted murder for stabbing his mother. Thankfully she is ok, but it's chilling that I worked with someone capable of doing such a thing.
  22. It's not Kat's fault that Samantha listened in a conversation that she was not involved in or would have never been invited into. Martin was way out of line with Kat and very disrespectful. Taking ChelseaKat away from Samantha is only going to make things worse.
  23. My mom has been mentioning this and it is not a great look for a mostly Black soap that is supposed to be elevating the Black experience on screen. It sort of defeats the purpose of having powerful Black characters if you're going to have a sleazy, low grade White character pulling their strings.
  24. Ashley got her face cracked. Andre shut her down in a nice way, but nonetheless he was clear. The fact that she was so quick to text him after finding out the truth about Derek goes to show she was never that serious about Derek.
  25. It's clear that Laura is being freed up from her unseen boyfriend so that she's available for someone else. Maybe Derek or Jabob, but time will tell if either of those happen. She was the chef. IMDb lists her a caterer.
