Bridget Dobson didn't care for the opening either. She complained in one interview how they'd work to provide the best teasers possible only to have "that thing with the dead leaves" (her words, not mine) follow them.

IIRC, Pa Hughes' other son was named John. I think he wound up living and working on the Hugheses' farm in Gilman, Ohio? But I'm not sure about that either.

I've always assumed P&G was concerned about ATWT's ratings freefall and needed the Dobsons to help revitalize and stabilize things. Otherwise, they were fine with their work on GL.

Judging from the promo, Jamie Rose seems all wrong for that kind of series. IIRC, too, LB received major flak at the time for being too "violent."

True. OTOH, I appreciate that they didn't attempt to make these shows look like anything other than what they were: soaps. Not prime time shows, not films, but soaps. I miss those days.

I think it's no secret that Lorne Michaels lost much of his autonomy to NBC at some point during the mid- or late-'90's, when SNL's ratings were REALLY anemic. That's why, for example, many musical acts that have appeared on the show in recent years have been the kind who, in a different era, would never have been invited; and why, despite what many critics say, I believe their political content during the last several election cycles has been toothless (Tina Fey's appearances as "Sarah Palin" notwithstanding). That's why the 40th anniversary special last night seemed bittersweet to me. Yes, forty years on the air is a significant accomplishment...but look at the sacrifices they've made along the way.

Another potentially good sketch tanked by Horatio Sanz and Jimmy Fallon's absolute inability to refrain from breaking. I was so happy when the two left the show.

Until I watched UH, I had no idea that Cosby originally envisioned ADW as being about a white girl attending a historically black college. (I read that tidbit later on Wikipedia.). To me, that would have made for a much stronger series than what we got in S1.

I doubt anyone seriously blamed Pratt for Brian Frons' decision to relocate AMC's production offices and studios to L.A. In fact, I suspect the majority knew all along Frons' real agenda.

Let's not forget Michael E. Knight while we're at it. He alleged in one interview that Pratt told him how he likes to have characters behave OOC every so often in order to keep them from becoming predictable.
