  1. Frankly, I think JFK Jr. might have been the family's last, best hope. Any other Kennedys who ran after him, including Joe III, could be super-qualified, but they wouldn't have captured (and don't capture) the same level of excitement and enthusiasm that John-John might have. Of course, that's presuming that JFK Jr. would've entered politics eventually -- and there are equally compelling arguments that he probably wouldn't have, especially after Jackie had passed away. (Me? Well, given what I have read about the Kennedys, and about JFK Jr. in particular, I'm inclined to believe the theory that he really wanted to pursue an acting career, but was prevented from doing so on account of his mother's distaste for Hollywood; and that even when he launched that magazine, he was still floundering, because he couldn't do what he really wanted to do.)
  2. Of course, I can't speak for Julia -- or anyone else, for that matter -- but it seems to me that you're suggesting you can't be someone who knows the fine workings of the political machine in this country without being a member of an established political family; and...well...I just don't think that's true. I think you CAN be an insider who "knows the system inside and out," but who isn't a member of an established political family and thus feels entitled to the office. Not that I'm saying FDR, RFK, Teddy Kennedy, or John Quincy Adams felt entitled to become president on account of their lineage (well, maybe John Quincy felt entitled, lol), but it seems as if that's the direction we could be heading toward should, say, Donny Jr., Eric, Barron, or even Ivanka decide they, too, want to be president. I'm leaving out Tiffany because, well, Tiffany considers it a victory if she can find her way to the bathroom.
  3. I feel the same way, Julia. Remember when Ted jockeyed for the Democratic nomination? From everything that I've heard and read over the years, I've gathered that "Uncle Teddy" had no other reason to run for president EXCEPT that he was a Kennedy. Because he was JFK and RFK's kid brother, he was expected to follow in their footsteps. In retrospect, though, it seems that Ted's heart just wasn't in it; and because his heart wasn't in it, falling short of the nomination was inevitable. (Which is especially sorrowful when you realize that if he had had a more compelling reason for being president, he might have been able to secure the nomination and maybe even defeat Reagan in the general election. As it was, we had to pin our hopes again on Jimmy Carter, even though his one term had been written off as lackluster.) As much as I like Joe III, I, too, would rather he waited until he was more seasoned before gunning for the presidency. I think he needs time -- MORE time -- to prove himself as a politician, so that when and if he DOES run, his supporters have a solid counter-argument to what will surely be the GOP's cries of "He's only running, because he's a Kennedy!". Similarly, I don't want Joe Biden because, to me, that smacks of "We can't do no better" and "Please, Mr. White Man, come save us (again)!" I KNOW the Democrats could do better if they actually tried. IMO, there's a difference between WANTING and DESERVING. Many might WANT the nomination, but not all of them DESERVE to be nominated. In 2020, I want whoever runs against Trump to be someone who genuinely DESERVES the nomination. Not that it will guarantee that Trump loses, but if that S.O.B. wants another four years to mess over this country, dammit, I don't want those years handed to him on a gold platter, which is what will happen should he run against a weak-sauce candidate who doesn't really deserve to be there and has no compelling reason to run other than (s)he isn't Trump. I want Trump to FIGHT for those years -- so hard, in fact, that it'll make 2016 look like a freaking cakewalk -- and leave him virtually spent at the end. (That should teach his orange ass but good, lol.) I'm glad to see Trey Gowdy gone, if only because I'm sick and tired of confusing him with CURT Gowdy.
  4. I hope they don't throw around the words "Democrats' next hope" TOO much. Otherwise, the GOP will sniff around, looking for something in that kid's past to nail him with.
  5. Oh, you KNOW she's sitting on several memoirs' worth of BTS stories. Not just the [!@#$%^&*] that happened in her presence, but her brother's as well. She's just too classy, IMO, to cash in on the salaciousness (and I am proud of her for it, too).
  6. I love you, Diane, and I understand why you feel you need to continue supporting and defending Woody...but I really wish you had just stayed silent...especially now, when so many women are out there, fighting the fight that needed to be fought, and looking to women like you as role models.
  7. Dear Jeffrey Toobin: Neither do I. McCabe's exit has Trump's stank all OVER it.
  8. Speaking of, how much longer before someone comes forward about Scott's frequent co-star, Willie Aames? Because, you know the truth is out there. Now we know how he played Joshua Rush so well. But seriously. I want Woody Allen held accountable. Not just for the pedophilia, but for his clear racism as well. I'd never ask him to write a movie where an AA or other minority is a lead character, but I DO believe he could do much, much better when he DOES include us in one of his films. When you can count the number of AA actors with even minor roles in Woody Allen's movies on one hand -- which is odd when you consider that the majority of them are set in NYC -- AND they're either maids or whores (for the women), or stereotypical "big, Black, beautiful buck" personal trainers (for the men), something is very, very wrong.
  9. Actually, time was up for Scott Baio (or at least his career) after "Happy Days" came to an end.
  10. That's the thing: IIRC, TWY ended with Kevin still in high school. According to Adult Kevin's narration, he graduated a year after everything in the series finale, including Kevin and Winnie's "first time," had transpired.
  11. Possibly. But it would have taken a lot of work, and I mean A LOT. As I've said on multiple occasions, so much of GL's core, its most valuable characters and families, had been broken down and sold for scrap that their cancellation was, in fact, a mercy killing. I hated to see GL "die," especially in that condition, but OTOH, it seemed as cruel to prolong its life any further.
  12. Was Hillary wrong to keep that man employed? Yes. IMO, docking his pay and reassigning his victim weren't enough. But it just galls me how quick the GOP are to vilify the left, and HRC in particular, while excusing away their own sins. The truth is, they lost forever any right to judge anyone the minute they hitched their respective wagons to Judge Roy Moore.
  13. Of all the GL opening themes, my favorite would have to be the original "My Guiding Light." Also, if I had to rank my favorite HW'ing regimes or eras of the show, Douglas Marland's definitely would come first. After him, would be Pam Long's two stint, followed by the Lorraine Broderick/Nancy Curlee/Stephen Demorest/James E. Reilly era.
  14. Not only that, but we need to cultivate more left-leaning types with deep pockets. As I've said before in this thread, we need to fight money WITH money. Oh, you know it. Just as you know that, constitutional crisis or no constitutional crisis, Trump is going to get fed up and fire Mueller eventually. Regardless of the bombshell that dropped yesterday about McGahn threatening to quit when Trump broached the subject back in June of last year. Well, I'll bet Fox News is just LOVING this!
  15. In those cases, I would tap another woman -- definitely not one who's a nominee in that category for that year -- to do the honor. I just feel like there needs to be a sort of passing-the-baton feeling to the presentation and acceptance of these awards.

Yeah, even "Elisabitch" would have mustered SOME sympathy for those kids who are now w/o their dad. People who have family histories of diseases such as Alzheimer's and many cancers are at an increased risk of developing those same diseases themselves in life. It's not "liberal media talk," it's just plain medical, scientific fact. But, if Alt-Right Barbie can't handle facts that don't come with the Fox News/Breitbart/Daily Caller/InfoWars stamp of approval, well, that's her damn problem. Which is so ironic, since conservatives are supposed to be about individual thought and freedom.
  17. Personally, I always thought it was ridiculous to have men present Best Actress, women present Best Actor, and so on. If I had my druthers, the previous year's winner in that category would be the one presenting the next year. IOW, whoever won Best Actress LAST year should present Best Actress THIS year. To tell you the truth, I always thought was David Copperfield was gay. So this news is kinda surprising to me.
  18. You're right. Now that I think further about it, I DO seem to recall Lou becoming virulently anti-Muslim/pro-Trump toward the end at CNN.
  19. Frankly, I think Lou Dobbs went full-on Howard Beale after CNN canned him. But I could be wrong.
  20. to infinity.
  21. Ah. Well. That just shows to go you how ignorant that organization is about a great many things. Even if a (fake) news network COULD openly declare war on the FBI and the Justice Department, don't they realize that at least one of those entities might have files on their top execs that could be leaked to the media "accidentally"? Do they REALLY want to poke that bear?
  22. You're not alone.
  23. FN?
  24. The drumbeat after each scene, though, is ridiculous. It's like they thought PP was a comedy.
  25. Wow, I had NO idea Marcia McCabe had ever been on AMC!
