Those "Christians" need to have a seat. You can't call Trump one of God's anointed and then turn around and ask Kav to withdraw. (I'm not TOO up on the Bible, but I'm pretty sure God warned us about hypocrites.)

Yet, Kav and his defenders claim all this investigating is unnecessary, because Kav has had to undergo six background checks in the past and not once had he been flagged. And really, the stuff that I've read (and IDK, it's been ten minutes, so there's probably a bunch more that I haven't read) isn't bad in and of itself. But Kav MADE it bad, or worse, when he chose to lie about, mislead everyone and/or cover up everything. If he had just copped to the assaults while admitting everything else was accurate, this might have blown over for him. If F&F actually had the balls to criticize Trump, then yeah, I'd say so. No one has the power to sway Trump's opinion about anyone or anything EXCEPT Faux News...which is just so [!@#$%^&*] sad.

"The Conners" Discussion Thread
Man, John Goodman looks so very different. I literally gasped when I saw the photos. From reading the story, you could tell how much they still miss Roseanne and wish things hadn't turned out as they did. In a way, my heart breaks for them, because they were still on a high from how successful the first new season had been for them. But they're right: let's give the rest of the cast a chance to continue or finish these characters' stories on their terms. I'm in.

IIRC, when Luna was helping Suede clear his name of some girl's murder, Akins played the girl's father. I can't remember, though, whether he turned out to be the real culprit, or if it was someone else. That's the thing: I don't believe Malone has ever been an "urban" kind of writer. I've read some of his non-OLTL stuff, and to me, he's more of a Flannery O'Connor-type. His work is definitely steeped in Southern literary traditions. That's why I think he would've made a perfect collaborator with Pam Long, who wasn't an altogether good fit for OLTL either.

I just don't think Michael Malone ever belonged on OLTL. I know he's a good writer and all, but tone-wise, it was never a perfect match for me. IMO, he'd have been much better off working on a show like LOVING, or DAYS, or even AMC, although I worry how his peculiar, Southern flourishes would have worked on a show like AMC.

I don't know if he cribbed from 13BS so much as that's his natural style. Even during his original OL stint, he had stories like the one with Claude Akins that had a Southern Gothic feel to them. Too bad Pam Long and Michael Malone have never worked together. They both tend to write big-hearted, romantic stuff, but Long's most positive, upbeat tone might temper some of his darker tendencies.

Because, although he had played major league baseball, Tate Harmon was, in fact, blind as a [!@#$%^&*] bat. I thought so, too, but I've since read somewhere that can't-see-for-[!@#$%^&*] Tate actually didn't know. I don't recall Rex "outing" Tate, but I do recall they recreated Tom Cruise's infamous jumping-the-couch moment on "Oprah" when Tate talked about how much he loved Adriana. The last two running simultaneously WAS bad. But, you know, I don't think it would've been bad if OLTL had gradually become another EON. Not that this means anything, but Wikipedia says Tate used Adriana as a cover. So, I have no idea. I've read she was a cover, and I've read she wasn't. Guess that's what I get for just following the show on-and-off through SOD and other magazine summaries.

Ah. God. Those years and those stories have become one big blur. It was so ridiculous to believe that a baseball player/underwear model was also involved in a far-right/white supremacist organization. Might as well have been an international spy. And from what I remember, Chris Beetem was actually PISSED about the change in his character.

And don't forget the One Pure People bullshit. Or did that happen later? Sorry for thinking Haver was the Killing Club killer. Could you really blame me for mixing up my OLTL serial killer storylines, lol? My God, it seemed like there were so many at the time. Reminds me of what Henry Slesar said when ABC hired him to co-HW the show: "It was with the caveat that OLTL was not a crime show; yet, when I joined, there were two murder mysteries running concurrently." I've watched the scenes between Viki and Marcie. I must admit I can detect some meta stuff going on -- not just with Marcie's whining (which she was prone to do a LOT, IMO), but with Viki's comment about the murders in the book being so "barbaric." You could tell not everyone was thrilled with the real-life book.

Apparently, poor people and brown people are not dying off fast enough for the administration. What's next? Sending everyone winter coats infected with bubonic plague?

TBH, I'm not even entirely sold on their "we thought he looked like the guy from UB40!" defense. They were probably just cruising.

"Squi"? "SQUI"?? I'm in Preppie Hell. You were still a pre-teen. Ergo, it doesn't count. Can I just add that I find these screen caps of Kavanaugh simultaneously hilarious and endearing? That drunken attempted rapist really missed his calling as a mime.

Back to the NYT article that Vee linked to earlier: I'm noticing a trend: first, they thought one guy looked like the lead singer from UB40 (which led to a bar fight, as such cases of mistaken identity tend to do); then, they think one of their group is a "heartthrob" because (they thought) he looked like Dr. Noah Drake on GH. I know teenagers are always music-, fashion-, and pop culture-obsessed, but man, these guys must've had shitty tastes if their references included UB40 and Rick [!@#$%^&*] Springfield.

You know, Mr. President, it is possible that someone might have slipped something into her one beer. Or that she's the kind who doesn't need to drink much alcohol before she blacks out. Or that maybe -- just maybe -- the trauma of being attacked by two men caused her to block out psychologically some of the circumstances surrounding that event. You're right, Julia: he never stops being trash.
