  1. Yes, it was. Patrick Mulcahey and Frank Salisbury were and are the best dialogue writers in the business, bar none. But, SB might have been TOO different (for daytime) to have any real staying power. Plus, was it just me, or did anyone else who watched notice how the writers tended to throw out or cut short even the stuff that WAS working? It's as if Chuck Pratt, Jr., or whoever was HW'ing the show at the moment, had an extremely short attention span.
  2. Please, our nation has suffered enough, lol. Welcome to SON, CC!
  3. As far as the Daytime Emmys were concerned, Susan Lucci's popularity (and notoriety, as a perennial Emmy loser) was both a blessing and a curse. The longer The Streak went on, the more eyeballs it attracted to the yearly telecasts, to the point where they could air in primetime and not just win the night, but be the most-watched program of that week. But, The Streak was bound to end, sooner or later, either with an eventual win (which it did), or her decision not to nominate herself anymore. It's just unfortunate that daytime soaps in general have fallen by the wayside in terms of popularity, and that the Emmys couldn't come up with any other, compelling reason for people to keep turning in BESIDE The Streak.
  4. Exactly. The only thing you and I and other African-Americans can do in times like these is what we ALWAYS do in times like these: take care of ourselves, and each other. (Oh, God, did I just quote Jerry Springer?). Meanwhile, in other news, Theresa May is DONE.
  5. That, too, lol. Before 2016, we thought it was INCONCEIVABLE for someone like Donald Trump -- a "reality" TV series "star," who had never run for political office before -- to attain the highest office in the land. But, you know, part of the reason why I ultimately sat out the election, is because I called it waaaaaay before Super Tuesday. When friends on FaceBook (and elsewhere) were EMPHATIC with me that Trump wouldn't make it to the primaries, I knew otherwise -- and that's because I could see where this country was heading post-Obama.
  6. I do. People who voted for Trump, for third parties, or for no one at all, simply because "their man" (or woman) was not on the ballot, did so, because their station in life afforded them the opportunity. I mean, it's easy for Berners who are predominantly Caucasian, predominantly upper- and upper-middle class, and predominantly Christian and heterosexual to vote for Jill Stein or Gary Johnson, or to stay home, isn't it? Because, even if Hillary had won and had made a gigantic mess of everything, how much would they have lost -- I mean REALLY lost -- by the time she was through? For that matter, how much do you think they will actually lose before TRUMP is finished (if he ever finishes)? Only those who TRULY stood to lose a lot with Trump getting elected (and who knew it) were willing to set aside their hurt feelings and everything else, and vote for Hillary. Otherwise, voters saw 2016 as nothing more than a game.
  7. Where was I when the streak was FINALLY broken? I was at home, of course, watching it all unfold on TV, and yelling loud enough for everyone in my neighborhood to hear, lol. All these years later, the moment remains magical for SuLu and all her fans.
  8. If he's found guilty, will they hang him? Asking for 150+ million people.
  9. Far Lefties: "But...Hillary [as President] would have been So. Much. Worse." Really? How? How would anything that Hillary might have done as President, Commander-in-Chief and CEO of the United States been worse than separating children from their parents and then having them die in captivity? Don't get me wrong. I, too, bought into the "Hillary Would Be TERRIBLE" hype (although, not enough to vote for Trump). But, there comes a point when you have to admit you were wrong.
  10. Looks as if they took your advice, @Vee!
  11. If I had known Marla Gibbs was going to appear again as Florence, I might have watched, lol. (But seriously. The airdate had completely slipped my mind.)
  12. Despite its' MANY flaws, CAPITOL is probably the ONLY short-lived soap that I love and miss to this day.
  13. Once again, it's a sad day when George W. Bush makes you look like a damn fool.
  14. Some folks just refuse to look ahead.
  15. I'm sure others would disagree, but I would love to see Eure back as Mike. At the very least, DAYS would be able to use more old clips as flashbacks.
  16. I'm surprised he didn't say "A speedwagon?"
  17. Who needed "Game of Thrones," when we have the ongoing debate over whether to impeach our sitting president? I agree that too many people who are demanding that Congress begin impeachment proceedings are reacting on pure outrage (and a need for vengeance) and nothing more. It's unfortunate that we, as a nation, have far too much to lose should this end in failure (and it WILL end in failure, mark my words) but that's where this administration and the GOP have brought us. Attempting to impeach Trump now or at any other time, rather than simply doing whatever we can to vote him and the rest of the Republican Party out of office come 2020, just isn't worth it.
  18. Too bad Doug Marland and Pat Falken Smith never collaborated on anything. I think they might have made a terrific duo.
  19. Yep. I was very pissed about that, too. Fortunately, she was closer to her true self on her subsequent returns (although the damage was probably done).
  20. Now THAT is how it's done, ladies and gentlemen. When God has blessed and enriched your life, literally as well as figuratively, you honor that by reaching out and reaching down and paying it forward. God bless Mr. Smith for doing what he should in his position to free some of our AA brothers and sisters from the economic slavery that has become student loan debt. I pray those graduates 1) put their degrees to good use and 2) follow his example by helping others in the years to come.
  21. One thing I've learned from listening to Mama Khan talk about the BTS doings at her church: Black women always follow the money. Always. (WOC just might save us again.) Bernie's pandering ass can kiss mine.
  22. Stuart Damon and Leslie Charleson looked so gorgeous and sophisticated BITD.
  23. Wasn't Brenda supposed to have gone away to acting school in the UK? Whatever became of THAT plot thread?
  24. You know, I have no idea what "Teddy" was short for? That's a good question. "Eddie" might have been okay. "Theo" reminds me too much of Theo Huxtable, lol. And Ted, although it would make the most sense, comes across as too preppy for the kind of teenager Ryder was supposed to be.
  25. But, the thing is, even with all the stuff coming out about him, Biden stands the best chance, IMO, of us getting Trump out of the WH. As much as I love Harris and Warren (and some others), their chances feel more iffy.
