Well, like I always say, if you didn't make more than a few questionable fashion statements in the '80's, then you really weren't there.

I actually had a joke about the hospital setting up a job fair/hiring event since it seems so many in PC are currently unhappy with how they earn their paychecks, lol. And IA about the show needing to deep breathe, etc. I realize EK/PM jumped aboard with little-to-no time to prepare a long-term bible, but I also believe you could do that AND move the current stories along a little faster if you make the time for it.

I'm just gonna chalk up the apparent emotional distance between Marlena and Maggie to "it's not really 'Doc,' it's one of her clones," and leave it at that, lol. But seriously. This is when you need a Frank Valentini-type to come in and mediate. Maybe invite SR and DH to lunch at some nice, pricey restaurant where there's lots of wine, and everyone can sit down and (hopefully) hash out their differences in a peaceful manner. Trust me: nothing smooths over the rough patches between two women better than a bottle or two of chardonnay.

GH: May 2024 Discussion Thread
For sure, I think the writing for Natalia has been one-dimensional and heavy-handed. One thing that I loved (and still miss) about AMC was how Agnes Nixon and her writers could make even the most bigoted individuals look or sound sympathetic; so that, even if you didn't agree with their POV, you still felt for them. But I don't get that from how Natalia is being portrayed on this show. Even worse, if the objective is to make us root more for Blaze/Kristina, it's actually making me do the opposite, if only because I think Kristina would be better off without all that drama, lol. My chief concern about Heather's story is the same concern I have about many of GH's stories atm: IMO, there's no real sense of where the story is going. Yes, we have learned that Heather's more psychotic behavior has been the result of cobalt poisoning; and yes, Heather is being treated for her condition and is on the road to recovery*. So, what now? Where do Heather and we go from here? If this were Bill Bell/Kay Alden's Y&R, Heather likely would begin a journey of self-discovery; one that would take her back, literally and figuratively, to her childhood and the roots of her psychosis; with a startling revelation or several about her complicated relationships with her mother and absent father. Right now, though, all GH seems to be saying is, "Once, Heather got so crazy, she killed a bunch of people; then, somebody figured out that it was because of a bum hip replacement; but now, she's feeling better, she's really sorry for killing those people and she won't do it anymore, cross her heart and hope to die! The End!" What's next for Heather (and her new BFF, Mayor Laura)? Is she truly becoming a wiser, saner person? Has Laura found herself a kooky, new sidekick? Or will Heather revert to her former, evil ways, maybe come between Laura and Ace, or even Laura and Kevin? Or is she poised to do something far, far worse? Something that, when it's all over and done with, will make The Hook look like child's play? C'mon, GH! Show me where the road turns! (*Or so we hope, lol?) And all the mob stories, and all the supervillain stories that should have gone out with boy bands and Jenna Elfman-like haircuts. Ugh. GH has improved so much lately compared to when I last watched it regularly, but it is so frustrating knowing how risk-averse TPTB have become, at a time when they really have nothing to lose.

That is totally possible. But I have to think that the longer a show runs, the more expensive it becomes to produce that show; and the more expensive a show becomes to produce, the more vulnerable the older/veteran cast members whose paychecks get heftier with each season become as well. So that, in cases like Linda Gray's, even if she just needed or wanted a break from playing Sue Ellen and the opportunity to take on new roles, she also probably knew or at least sensed that the suits at CBS and Lorimar weren't going to fight as hard to hold onto her than they might've in the past.

You weren't being vague. And even if you had been talking about PM and/or EK, you are no less entitled to your opinion(s) about their work than anyone else here who has expressed their misgivings in recent weeks. I'm a PM fan, and as much as I'm digging the show atm, I still believe there's room for improvement. (And it starts with TRIMMING THE DAMN CAST.)

I still don't understand the hesitancy on Natalia's part to embrace her daughter's sexuality. If Natalia is opposed to Blaze being in a relationship with another female strictly on religious grounds, that's one thing. But, IMO, she's also acting as if being queer will damage Blaze's career, which is pure lunacy in 2024. Is Natalia hoping Blaze will cross over into the Gospel/Contemporary Christian market? This might be the only time in history that I have actively campaigned for LESS cast members on a show rather than MORE cast members or even NEW ones. I love ya, GH, and everyone connected to you, but watching just one episode of you can be like watching "Too Many Cooks: Daytime Edition."

I agree - and I would add "going after younger demographics," because it seems like, in just about every case, a veteran actress was getting replaced by another actress who was younger, less experienced and cheaper.

For me, 1991 is the real head-scratcher. I can justify Hubbard's loss in other years - some had more sensational storylines (rape, multiple personalities, etc.) or they had flashier reels; Helen Gallagher's might've been a pity win, since everyone knew RH was going down; and 1999 was basically a shitty year for lead actresses across the board - but how Finola Hughes won in a year when Hubbard, Barr, Cooper, and even Lucci had better material or gave more jaw-dropping performances...? I mean, I'm sitting here, trying to think of something that FH did on GH that year that said "Emmy winning performance!," and I'm at a loss. Mostly because GH itself was in such a sorry state, doing none of their actors any favors. And I'm not saying all that to diss Finola, because I like her a lot! I'm just mystified to this day how she won on a such bum year for her, for her character and for her show.

She might've written that in order to save face. "I walked away" sounds better in that context than "I was pushed out."
